I just re-read the thing and I see that now. I don't expect to be fast enough. Trivia contests in the internet age are pretty lame... anybody can Google the answer.
Yeah, definitely not that enjoyable. Also probably makes it impossible for me to win :(

Ulairi 06-11-2010 05:22 PM

The first question came out. It took me about 10 minutes to reply, it's an easy question but I bet I was too late.

Mejilan 06-11-2010 05:36 PM

Damn, I guess I missed out, since I have yet to get my package. Alas.

botticus 06-11-2010 05:39 PM
Damn, I guess I missed out, since I have yet to get my package. Alas.
Did you get any of their emails? They sent a follow-up yesterday to confirm everyone received the packages. Perhaps you didn't respond to the initial email in time.

Mejilan 06-11-2010 05:40 PM

Yeah, but I forgot to respond to that email until a few minutes ago. Woops.

Jeels 06-11-2010 06:35 PM

I hope I get a t-shirt, it'll be a good conversation starter. Good way to pick up the ladies too.

Aeana 06-11-2010 06:37 PM

I replied to the question immediately, but forgot to include my name as the e-mail asks. I sent another one a few minutes later, but I probably missed it.

Ulairi 06-11-2010 08:29 PM

I hope they e-mail people if they are in or out.

Jeels 06-11-2010 08:37 PM
I hope they e-mail people if they are in or out.
They said they would either immediately after the 100 are filled, or after the entire period itself. It ends Sunday I believe.

BlueTsunami 06-11-2010 08:39 PM

FIVE YEARS LATER

Can't wait for this. SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeee

Jeels 06-11-2010 09:00 PM

So uh, who has dibs on the OP?

Aeana 06-11-2010 09:02 PM
So uh, who has dibs on the OP?
I usually make DQ official threads. But if the 5 people on here who care about the game would rather have someone else do it, that's cool.

Jeels 06-11-2010 09:04 PM
I usually make DQ official threads. But if the 5 people on here who care about the game would rather have someone else do it, that's cool.
I will definitely get back to you on that. I feel like this game deserves an extremely well done OP, so if I know I can dedicate the time for one, I'd like to take a shot at it.

Oxx 06-11-2010 09:09 PM

The date in the thread title makes me feel all warm and fuzzy... but then I remember that the European release is 12 days later than the US one.

Aeana 06-11-2010 09:13 PM
I will definitely get back to you on that. I feel like this game deserves an extremely well done OP, so if I know I can dedicate the time for one, I'd like to take a shot at it.
If you'd like, we could team up. I was actually looking forward to doing it myself, but it would be nice to have some help.

Jeels 06-11-2010 09:17 PM
If you'd like, we could team up. I was actually looking forward to doing it myself, but it would be nice to have some help.
That would be great. I sort of have some ideas in my head already I'll send to you post E3 (going out of town, packing now, but I'll be back next weekend). I'm sure a good OP could garner at least some interest among people who have not played or don't know much about the series.

botticus 06-12-2010 10:49 PM
I hope they e-mail people if they are in or out.
Just got notified I made it through the first cut, yay t-shirt!

Ulairi 06-13-2010 06:41 AM
Just got notified I made it through the first cut, yay t-shirt!
I haven't heard anything. That sucked. At least I got a poster out of the deal.

Aeana 06-13-2010 06:44 AM

I didn't make it, I guess. But I'm not surprised. As I said before, I was too trigger-happy on my first reply, and forgot to include my name.

Zerokku 06-13-2010 07:56 AM

Any word on if we'll be getting any of the accessories for this?

Always wanted to pick up http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-b6-49-en-15-dragon+quest+ix+case-70-36qy.html but by the time I got around to it everywhere on the net was sold out.

Any word if they're bringing it to europe, too?

Darthdevidem01 06-13-2010 10:36 AM

So what are the reports from Japan on this game? I checked amazon japan and its extremely mixed.

I really love DQV on the DS, I hope it can be as awesome as that!

A very vocal minority seemed to hate it simply because it was on a portable. I've played through the Japanese version of the game and I love it, so I don't get the hate.

You're in for a treat.

Kuraudo 06-13-2010 11:29 AM

Everything in Amazon Japan is extremely mixed.

Ulairi 06-13-2010 09:28 PM

I actually did make it. So, at least I'm getting a t-shirt. My goal is to get a free copy of the game.

mr stroke 06-13-2010 09:51 PM

Anyone have any idea on the games length?

Door2Dawn 06-13-2010 09:56 PM

Doesn't this game have a class system or something?

Aeana 06-14-2010 02:13 AM

Looks like I did make it in the contest, after all. My e-mail was just delayed or something.
Doesn't this game have a class system or something?
Yes. It's like a mix between DQ3's and DQ8's skill point system, although abilities don't carry over exactly as they have in past DQ games with class systems.

Zaraki_Kenpachi 06-14-2010 03:25 AM

Can't wait for this game to come out. :D

Ulairi 06-18-2010 05:04 PM

the second question for the game came out from Nintendo. I selected Ninja as the class that we cannot be. I hope I'm right.

I didn't get mine even for the first one.

Aeana 06-18-2010 10:38 PM

Been incredibly busy, so I didn't notice the email until 2 hours ago. Hope I still make it.

Mejilan 06-19-2010 02:12 AM

I still haven't gotten the original package with the poster!
:(

Mr. Wonderful 06-19-2010 02:31 PM

So close to this. My summer NEEDS an RPG so badly.

botticus 06-21-2010 07:57 PM

Woohoo, won the soundtrack. Looking forward to an opportunity for the big prize on Friday!

Pyrokai 06-21-2010 08:05 PM

Hey guys, just thought I'd mention that I'm currently playing Dragon Quest IV on the DS. It's my first Dragon Quest game and so far, so good. I'm pretty addicted, but I'm only about 4 hours in. Got through the first chapter and I'm in the middle of things in the second.

I also was wondering: wasn't there a thread on NeoGAF all about DQIV and V? Maybe I'm just thinking of the Official Threads or something but......I can't remember. Does anyone have all the relevant links to all the DQ NeoGAF threads?

Jeels 06-21-2010 08:05 PM

Just got the email about the soundtrack as well. =) Final round go!

Ulairi 06-21-2010 09:26 PM

I'm in the final round, too. I hope I can win the grandprize because I'm not going to buy a DSi otherwise.

Ulairi 06-25-2010 05:03 PM

Final question came out, i picked slimy slime.

Yeah, took me about 15 seconds longer than it should have since I also didn't recognize She-Slime, but oh well. Hopefully 30 seconds is quick enough!

Aeana 06-25-2010 05:38 PM

Good luck, guys.

While I'm posting, I'd also like to point out that benHaskett at Dragon's Den has scanned the free info booklet that Gamestop has been giving out, if anybody wants to check it out: http://www.dragonquesting.com/main_pages/manuals/dq9_infobook_ds.html

My local GS doesn't seem to have them yet, but they seem to be a lot like the My First Dragon Quest books Nintendo released in Japan.

Hobbun 06-25-2010 05:40 PM

An info booklet?

Do you mean it is something akin to the mini-booklet that was handed out for FF XIII at GS?

Edit: Asking because I couldn't open the link at work.
So what are the reports from Japan on this game? I checked amazon japan and its extremely mixed.

It's definitely a great game, but it sort of remixes the DQ formula, without really changing much. The core experience is very similar. In other words, I don't think it's going to win over people who don't like these games, though I could be wrong.

As for the amazon review I think the Japanese just don't like ganguro fairies in their fantasy.

Pyrokai 06-25-2010 05:52 PM

Aeana, did you by chance make a big thread once about DQIV and V a long time ago talking about the games and stuff? I seem to remember something about them.

Do you.....happen to have the links to all your Official Threads? :P

Also, I'm playing DQIV for the first time on DS (my first Dragon Quest game ever) and I'm really enjoying it. I just finished the second chapter! Now I'm trying to figure out if I should play DQ8 or 9 after I finish 4 :p

Ulairi 06-25-2010 06:16 PM

I replied back to them at 10:01 am. I hope that is in enough time. There are only 50 people answering the question though.

I know someone got through to this round answering after 3 minutes, so with any luck answering within 1 minute will be enough for the last 25.

I always enjoy reading back through Dragon Quest threads so I've saved some you might be interested in. Just be careful for spoilers if you haven't played them before.

I was very much late-to-the-party with DQ4 and DQ5, but I did enjoy looking through the threads after I had finished the games.

I'm currently pondering whether or not to import IX. The European release is 12 days after the NA one.

Laekon 06-28-2010 08:59 PM

So would this be a good intro into the series or should I go back a little farther? DQ 4 and 8 seem easy to find.
So would this be a good intro into the series or should I go back a little farther? DQ 4 and 8 seem easy to find.
I enjoyed 8,although I never finished it,so yeah that one is good but if you want the handheld feel, obviously,go with one of the DS remakes.

Looking forward to it...I`m thinking of grabbing the XXL even for this game.

Aeana 06-28-2010 09:44 PM
So would this be a good intro into the series or should I go back a little farther? DQ 4 and 8 seem easy to find.
Just about any game is a good intro to the series, really. I'd say go with whichever seems most interesting, and/or cheapest/most convenient to get. But at least if you get 9, you'll be able to play it with everyone else when it comes out!

ryan-ts 06-28-2010 10:11 PM

DQ9 will be my first DQ as well. I have no idea if I'll like the game but I want a new DS game and playing with other people seems like it could be pretty cool.

DeathbyVolcano 06-28-2010 10:19 PM

Eh, I don't know if IX is really the best intro game to the series or not. I'd try and find DQV for DS somewhere, that game is fantastic.
So would this be a good intro into the series or should I go back a little farther? DQ 4 and 8 seem easy to find.
Be a man and start with DW 1 NES like the rest of us.

Seriously, just start with IX when it comes out.
It's pretty good, polished and keeps the old school feeling.
Skip VII though. Worse in the series and huge disappointment after the excellent SNES VI.
piratepwnsninja 06-28-2010 10:37 PM

I really wish there was tunneling for the DS. I understand having a local wi-fi only multiplayer mode that is seemingly substantial in Japan where everyone has a DS. Here, however, it's going to be difficult to get some of the stuff dealing with the Inn and whatnot since I don't know a lot of people buying it.

rush777 06-28-2010 10:50 PM

Very excited finished DQ 4 and 5 last month I'm ready.

Ulairi 06-29-2010 12:46 AM

That sucks. I was hoping to win the DSi. Ah,well.

I hope they at least tell people they didn't win.

Mejilan 06-29-2010 01:04 AM

Well, Nintendo were cool enough to send me a new package with the poster, since the first never arrived. Obviously way too late to make the trivia contest, but they could have just not bothered. So I'm happy enough to have the poster, which is actually quite nice looking, IMHO.

Blue~ 06-29-2010 01:39 AM
This game got 40/40 from Famitsu, so I'm expecting it to be a great great game.
People still put stock in Famitsu reviews?

Pyrokai 06-29-2010 02:29 AM

First, I want to say thank to Dineren for linking me to all those threads. I especially appreciated the Dragon Quest Appreciation Thread (even though the screenshots aren't there anymore :( )

Second, since I'm just now getting into Dragon Quest and the like, I haven't been paying much attention to IX until, like, two weeks ago. Therefore, I don't know much about the multiplayer. How exactly does it work? And does everyone who is playing it need a copy of the game?

Third: how can I get more friends to buy this game with me? :p

Aeana 06-29-2010 02:33 AM

Multiplayer requires everyone to have their own copy of the game. After that, the host starts a game from the inn, and people around the host can join in. The other people join the host's world, and they can run around and do anything that can be done in singleplayer. For battles, each player can fight separately, or they can walk up to where another player is fighting and join in. Only the host can initiate story events, though, and there are also some chests only the host can open.

At least, this is my understanding. I haven't been able to actually doit myself yet.

Pyrokai 06-29-2010 02:37 AM

Thanks! I'm interested in the multiplayer. It sounds like it can be either really convoluted or really awesome. How is it supposed to be?

Aeana 06-29-2010 02:41 AM

Most people I know who've tried it really liked it.

Carlisle 06-29-2010 02:56 AM

I'm only up to 3 so far, but it's a blast. I do think 3 is the best intro to the series so far... at least much better than 1 or 2. The first 2 are still awesome games, but very different from the rest of the series, so I don't think they serve as good intros.

john tv 06-29-2010 04:58 AM

I found multiplayer kinda boring, but I didn't play it all that much. What's not boring, however, is tag mode (すれちがい通信), which I spent my entire summer and fall doing last year :)

Oxx 06-29-2010 08:38 AM

I'd say IV would be a decent starting point.

It's a fine game in its own regard, but I imagine that had I started with V and then played IV I might not have enjoyed it quite as much.
...What. The whole celebrity event thing is weird.
What is incredibly sad is that Lil Jon here has a fanbase, which will now look into this game called DQIX because he has been seen playing it. :/

Mejilan 06-29-2010 07:43 PM

You know, I got to give it to them.
They're really trying to raise awareness for the game, which is honestly more than Square Enix seems capable of doing for the franchise.

It's sometimes bizarre. Perhaps even disturbing.
But I suppose it is something.
Wow.

What is sad is that some people steep low in opinion. This is a potentially great profit on the sales side of the spectrum of course.

djtiesto 06-29-2010 07:53 PM

:lol First Lil Jon likes house music and now DQ9... guess my "guilty pleasure" enjoyment of dirty south hiphop is justified.

Oh btw, you know those posters for the game Gamestop has? How would I go about procuring one of those? The people at GS say they can't save one for me when the ad campaign is over :(

Kad5 06-30-2010 03:26 AM

Lucky for me on the 12th im leaving for Germany then Iran so i'll probably pick this up for the long ass plane ride.
Why did you reply to yourself?
I thought we avoided the "watch celebrities play a game" part of Nintendo's advertising, but I was wrong.

Loto 06-30-2010 04:20 AM

I like the advertising and I hope it pays off. Dragon Quest deserves it. It just feels like its a last ditch effort or something to try to get DQ popular in the west. That could be my own paranoia though.

Aeana 06-30-2010 04:22 AM
Aeana how does DQ IX compare to other DQ games out of curiosity?
In what ways? That's a pretty broad question. If you mean how do I like it compared to the others, well, I like it all right. It's not one of my favorites, but I also didn't finish the Japanese version due to life issues at the time. Just never got around to picking it back up.
I like the advertising and I hope it pays off. Dragon Quest deserves it. It just feels like its a last ditch effort or something to try to get DQ popular in the west. That could be my own paranoia though.
No, that's pretty much exactly what it is.

Loto 06-30-2010 04:25 AM

I think this will work. I don't remember such a push for DQVIII and that did well here.

Aeana 06-30-2010 04:27 AM
I think this will work. I don't remember such a push for DQVIII and that did well here.
DQ8 had a push called "free FF12 demo in every box."

Kad5 06-30-2010 04:29 AM

So is this going to be a primarily multiplayer oriented game?

Also, I liked IV and V alot but those are the only two i've played.

I'm not sure if IX is as good as V.

Aeana 06-30-2010 04:30 AM

It has multiplayer, but the single player game is still very strong.
