One thing I am wondering, did they scrap completely the mission/challenge mode from the DS game? I dont see it in this game and it was part of what made Mario Kart DS so amazing, with the challenging challenges and boss battles.

Can you see your friends' Time Trial times? Hearing worrying reports that you can't, which would be bizarre for a racing game but you can't rule anything out with Nintendo when it comes to online.

Apparently they did cut it, and it doesn't seem like they rolled a half-baked version into the MK Channel like they did in the Wii version. Sad.

I'm beginning to feel that heavy characters/karts have no real pros in this entry, weight seems like an almost irrelevant stat in this game, a battle of the brutes has long since been the tradition of my local multiplayer in MK but an earlier bunch of cups led me and my fellow karter to the conclusion that taking the heavy kart route has barely any benefits at all, hopefully i'm wrong here because shunting light karts off course is one of the joys of mario kart. Using the speed increasing wheels (slick or monster for example) has a much heavier turning price than I'm used to compared to previous games.
High acceleration karts seem better here, I think the drift boost for all karts are similar now as it no longer has its own stat.

I'll die in there! Battle mode is like the mode for light characters with small karts, high acceleration and super handling, why I remember how back in the day I could use DK's sheer girth to remove my opponents first balloon with a turbo start on skyscraper but alas that's no longer the case. On a related note the new battle stages are kind of bland with most of them going for a big open approach with nothing interesting going on, after the wii stages this seems a bit lacking but then again I haven't truly enjoyed battle mode since 64 so i'm not too fussed.
And getting a blooper in battle mode is a humongous troll.

Double Dash was awesome. I loved the co-op focus. To this day, I still have no idea why it gets so much hate. Nintendo actually innovated and changed the formula, but so many people couldn't adapt that they've gone back to what's tried and true, and now people complain about that :/

Great races with Mac! Especially that last one!

I've got three gold stars for all cups in 50 and 100 cc, no problem. Only tried the first 150cc cup and only got two stars, even though I came first in all the races. I hate that shit. My OCD is telling me to replay it over and over until I get three!

I wouldnt say it is the same easy to pull it off. It was much easier to pull off the on the MK DS game than here. I have been playing this game all evening and trying to figure out how you pull off the boost. The nub makes it definitely less comfortable to do it than the pad.

Well we can make communities, so if snaking ever comes back, we ban it from NeoGAF Communities, plain and simple.

I never play 50cc or 100c and I won't be starting now.

It is hard to say as the vehicle has a lot to say too. I like the big wheels with speedy characters since I feel like I am more in control when I drive and I like to feel some weight. So a light cart with big wheels? from what I can gather so far.

That may assuage some incompetent GAFfers' lamenting about complex numerical FCs. Also it may be a bit more fair to start up the official community after Sunday when nearly everyone should have the game.

First, relax. No need to lose your cool on something so miniscule. I wasn't rejecting your criticism, just the way you laid out your criticism was over the top.

Of course, in a perfect world we'd have a search engine allowing us to search communities based on a set of user specified rules. Hey, that's the only thing it's really lacking. Though the fact that we are still getting a system that's innovative in the handheld scene from Nintendo is something to be excited about. Nothing's perfect on its first outing, but it'll surely be improved upon in the future.

Entering 16 digits to join a community is not the end of the world. It's not ideal, but it's not the 'pee in the pool' you make it out to be.

I was never good at snaking, mostly because I didn't want to destroy my DS's Dpad. This is the same, I don't want to destroy my 3DS's circle pad.
