The online ghosts come in via Spotpass once you have set a time for a track. Though not very often as far as i can tell. I would guess that you can get you're friends times via Streetpass.

The bad thing of this was that every racer had the same weight, so even a Yoshi could bump Bowser off the track.
I don't know if this is still the case in 7.

Too bad the balloon battle is not as fun because of the red shell physics not being the same as the snes version...

I'll ask again about the R tricks; sometimes the character will fist pump the are, while others turn to the camera, are they random or depend on my timing, thus somehow affecting the boost bonus?

And is there a third trick I haven't seen yet?

You can see this simply by selecting different characters and checking the stats on the next screen (the parts screen). Heavier characters have slower acceleration but higher top speeds, and lighter characters have quicker acceleration but lower top speeds -- just like in the SNES original and most (?) of the non-N64 versions.

It's not the same kind of snaking as in MKDS (and not as easily done), but you can exploit the wide sections of a few tracks to get successive blue speed boosts from drifting. There have been a number of people who have reported that these tracks are being spammed online by snakers.

Not the total mess that MKDS was for that kind of thing, but still disappointing.

That's such a shame. I quite like the Wuhu tracks. In fact, I really love the addition of tracks that aren't based on laps but sections. It's a really nice change to the usual lapping.

I gotta say, MK7's new tracks are all pretty damn fantastic.

I think I remember reading talk about the 'potential' of DLC for Mario Kart 7 in one of the Iwata Asks, which fingers crossed means that the game is patchable and the Wuhu glitch can be fixed.

I've played a bit and in my opinion snaking doesn't really seem like a huge issue at the moment. My thumb hurts from playing it normally!

I think I was in that 5 player match as well - good racing, I was the other regular Mario. I got lucky in the third race with a golden mushroom at the end, but typically would start really strong and then nose-dive in the second or third lap. Having a ton of fun with the game so far though.

Wow what luck! A blue shell was coming after me(First one in the game) and I got a mushroom a second it was about to hit me and I dodged it!

As mentioned earlier, during online play, I often see people "falling off" the track, only to appear back on the track, then somehow get right in front of me with a banana.

Some great races in the community! Looks like this game is going to keep me busy for some months.

Just picked this up and played the Mushroom Cup. I'm starting with 50cc since I haven't played the series in a while, plus not having the Gold Cups in every difficulty would bug me. I'm amazed at how smooth it is and how great it looks even with 3D on.

I'm gonna go through the cups for now, and maybe hop online later tonight if I go ahead and start the 150cc cups.

Best Mario Kart ever. So. Fun. Even Grand Prix is fun with a smarter, more challenging and fairer AI. Had a blast. Gonna join the GAF Community and get a few games online!

I don't care about the form of snaking in this game so far as it sounds situational and more balanced due to alternate routes, but I hope to god the capacity for patching is indeed in this game. I don't want to see glitched courses be the only thing used online.

Out of curiosity, did Nintendo ever do any leaderboard resets or such for Mario Kart Wii, due to various impossible times set by hacks?

Well, the thing is that you can't join groups as a spectator (unlike "Worldwide" races) which makes the timing for finding a group that is currently waiting for the next cup a bit tricky and you just end up creating a new group.

I can connect to the internet fine and I've never had a problem in the shop or anything like that, but the game never finds any players when it's searching and it gives me an error after awhile. I can't remember the code but I looked it up and it said something about not being able to find an access point. It just doesn't make sense because the 3DS is still online...

Do I need to open some ports on my router or something?

Maybe try changing the router's channel as well? Not to sure about the port triggering or forwarding for the 3DS.

Yeah mine too. I beleive the people dropping out is because the netcode works by predicting character movement. That happened in the DS version as well. I did fall twice off the track too XD!

This game can brew a totally personal flavor of frustrating bullshit when you lead by a landslide and a blue shell hits you and on the last bounce you fall in a pit and as soon as you get up a red shell bites you. From first to last without being able to do a thing.
