So... I got the game. Gotta unlock all the stuff before my gf comes to visit me and plays it! :P

When playing the tournament mode (dunno the name in English, sorry), right now I just have 1 out of 3 stars for the cups I've finished. What's the deal with that and how do I unlock the other 2 stars? By playing the same cup again?

You can get up to three stars depending on how you play. Try and stay in first as long as you can, collect all the coins, make sure you take first in every race, don't fall in pits, don't get hit by items, etc.

A helpful soul posted the specifics of what determines the score at the end of each Cup before, but I can't find it.

Oh I see. Still the game is starting to get on my nerves (it usually takes more than 1 day). It's just certain instances where the whole game seems to be plotting against you that I just can't stand... :P

Oh well.. got 4 cups done with gold at 150cc, hopefully get most of it done by today or tomorrow, then I can just do time attacks and some online...

I don't even know what to say about Wahu, I felt bad about using that blue shell but I played it and soon as it was dealt to me ;)

Future MKs could definitely use an item drop feature in all seriousness. I'd love if they'd let you trade any item for a boost for example. I can't tell you how many times I've had an item I didn't want (and blue shells seem so unfair in two or three man races) but you're forced to use them or not be able to pick up anything else :(

So... I was just playing my first online game and it all went smooth until the last track... the Japanese name is 'Uufuu Island 2'. Dunno the name, but it's one of those tracks with 3 segments instead of 3 laps.

Anyway, I was playing and I was on 2nd position, quite far from the rest of the players except the 1st guy. Then I see the first guy jump on this side of the track but I didn't really care much. Then before I notice, I'm on 7th position... and I just can't see anybody else.
I take it there's a shortcut there? Or is it some sort of bug? Either way, it's messed up...

If I barely enjoyed this game online before, with crap like this I just won't even bother again. Hopefully there are no other tracks with this kind of bs going on, because my gf will be playing it and I wouldn't want her to get pissed off too because of this cheap stuff...

It's a very well-known glitch; that technique has basically become standardized for that track in online play. You can learn it and do it with everyone else, or play the track normally and expect not to take first. It's not going to be patched, and it's not going to stop at this point. :-/

There's one other track - the other multi-section track on Wuhu Island - that has a much more limited glitch near the end that allows players to gain a few seconds on their opponents. Other than those two tracks, the others play normally.

Uhm.. I see. I think I might remember reading somewhere that there was a glitch in one level (this one I guess) and that Nintendo didn't want to fix it because it would be unfair to new players. Is that true? That's quite the weird reasoning...

Yeah it's true, and it's odd reasoning. I don't really know the technical aspects of the game enough to make an informed opinion, but you'd think they could do [I]something[/I]. I guess not.

And playing the GP online can be fun under the right circumstances, like playing in a full room in the GAF community. The vast majority of the time, though, I've been playing in Worldwide, which like the Wii version is just a continuous series of races that you can drop out of at any time. You usually get a good mix of players over a long period that way, and you're never "locked in".

Playing Worldwide, can anyone finish a race? Every race I get communication errors at some point during the race. It's pretty frustrating for an otherwise decent online experience. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

I did it two times on my first tries, now I can't do it.

Isn't it about pressing the accelerating button just before the lights turn green (the GO)?

Start accelerating when the count is at 2 and is about to fade in to 1.

Press down. You can also trick off the boosting pad before launching.

I have to second that. Was validated today for posting at GAF and finally I'm able to join the NeoGAF Community in Mario Kart :-)

This game was my primaly reason to make an account after years of lurking (I'm looking forward to my first real E3 btw :-D), so its logical to make my first post in this thread.

To introduce myself, I'm from Germany, so English is not my native language, but it was never a problem to read in GAF, so why schould be a problem with posting? My Mario Kart Name is the same as here in GAF, so watch out ;-)

We were doing prety well for a while but I think the recent game onslaught has everyone occupied. I see a people in my friend list online all the time but everyone is playing RE:R and I've been bouncing back and forth between SCV and FFXIII-2.

If everyone can agree on a time I'm game to meet up daily.

Like a few others here, I too only just got validated. This community was the reason I signed up for GAF (way back when it was one page) rather then continuing to be a lurker.

I did race against a few people here and found it to be far more enjoyable than going against random people. I'd always win against my friends, so I thought I was pretty awesome at the game. The skill in this community was a wakeup call.

Anyway, look out for Robin online, that's me.

It stopped doing it after 10-15 hours of (total 3DS) playtime.

I've noticed this with some other communities, there really does need to be a set time for everyone to show up that works with everyone.

Any time between 6-12 PM EST (3-9 PM PST) would be ok for me.

A big part of the problem for the GAF community is that it's international. We'd probably have to set up meet times at three different times of day for it to be fair.

Pretty nonexistent but every now and then we get a random racer who probably isn't even a GAF member trying to spam it.

They're usually dealt with fairly quickly though as fortunately for us the Nintendo Ninja's take mercenary jobs from time to time ;)

So I passed someone with MK7 today and he had a Japaneses Mii of Ganondorf but his grand prix tracks all had the Japaneses names. So did I pass someone with a Japan 3DS? Which is odd because his Mii said he was from my state and he was picking up RE:R.
