Maybe Akai was trying to say that the OS should have themes from past Nintendo classics. I guess the Settings Menu could be a Space Station from Metroid, the Game Menu could be World 1-1 from Mario, the Music Menu could be Kirby with his Maestro costume from Super Star, and so and so forth.

Probably a reason no one talks about it.
You'd be wrong then. Satellaview was awesome. If you haven't seen the Satellaview hub, then check a youtube video. |
I'll go with bad :P

Sighs, if nintendo went through all the trouble beafing up the hardware to be able to run unreal 3.9, I see no reason why they can't slightly beef it up a bit more. That 0.1 seems to me a minimal difference.

Umm... cost? Sorry but that was so blatantly obvious. Nintendo is trying to find a balance in power and price. Plus, again, that article is bull. |
Minimal difference to us, "bother-some" to them.
To the developers in the future it would be a bother, but nintendo already beefed up the hardware. Im sure Nintendo can beef it up slightly more, Im sure they see the positive of this. This why im not believing this article, if the the scale was propotionall to spec needed, it makes no sense for Nintendo for not to spend 5 dollars more on hardware. |

Unreal 3.9 or 3.5 are just stupid marketing terms that mean nothing. UE4 is probably going to be a beefed up Samaritan and I don't think the gap to that will be that huge. Rein tries to hype the shit out of it. |
What video?
posted at the end of a page ago anyway point is, I think it was a stupid product. You guys might appreciate the END result, which is what I said, it's a good idea for US, but it's pointless work for them. The Satellaview wasn't even a good implementation. You needed to buy a separate tuner if you didn't have one, AND you needed a membership fee paid to get the content. There is a reason only few people subbed to begin with, and then that number dropped dramatically before being discontinued. They were probably all wtf is this and why am I paying for it. |

I agree with you, its just that unfortunately, I think Ninty wants this thing out of the door soon. Not that they're necessarily rushing, but I think they've revised the hardware more than they've liked too. And like Ace said, don't look too far into that article. |
It was actually pretty cool.

Question, in terms of the Zelda demo of this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S05fWaaATU8 How often did games this gen use lighting effects like what comes through the windows at the beginning? I'm sure it was discontinued and never spoken of again because it was a good idea :P Also I don't see what Nintendo gains from it. They could do a separate optional thing like Home for Sony, which actually makes Sony profit, but I don't see why they would. Seems....pointless. |

UIs are moving toward simplicity, tis the future (errr present).
This is true (Windows Metro) and to be honest I like simplicity, but I think Nintendo, being the most creative out the the Big 3 IMO, can do wonders with the new hardware in terms of OS and UI design. |

For those saying that nintendo needs UE4 to run in the Wii U. UE4 is much more optimized than UE3.9, so if the console can run the latter, the former will run without problem.

Wait... I'm posting too... *cries*
I've got a movie party going on in a couple hours, actually. Other than that, fuck doing something on a Sunday. |
I also like the mock up. A nice notification bar at the top displaying messages and whatever other info, smartphone sized tiles on the screen, customizable wallpapers and whatnot. Could be pretty damn slick for the controller. As for the TV, they could go many directions with that so it's hard to say.
edit: I plan to disappear for a while in an hour or 2, lol. |

I like this. You should be able to access some apps while you're playing a game or something. Similar to the 3DS. And we're almost there guys! :o |
damm yeah! close to the 3DS OS, but better! nice!

Seems....pointless.
Animal Crossing would lend itself to the idea perfectly. Just replace the animals with Miis and you are pretty much done. Everyone's log in logs into their own personal town, and then you are able to connect with your friends (on and off line) by visiting their town. Visiting different buildings represent different parts of the OS, such as the eShop, Internet Cafe, etc etc. Playing games and doing "accomplishments" earns you gear that you can use in your town, so now everyone's town can be unique through the games that they actually play (not just own). Of course, this would all be an optional interface and you could opt to use the standard system of menus if you like, but the AnimalXing interface could be a nice distraction and a way to get you to play you to play as many games as possible. edit: looks like I was beaten, but I elaborated on the idea. |
