They just showed all new footage on the PS Awards show stream. Kawano also said the demo will definitely be coming out this month, it will "have more content than a normal demo -- a great amount", it will include multiplayer, and save data will transfer to the retail release.

Nice.

Kawano also had one of the limited edition Vitas in his pocket, which he showed off.

When was this?

What has given you that impression? This is a hunting game, through and through. An obvious copy+tweak of the original formula that made Monster Hunter so popular. The fact that they are selling it in double-packs should also mean something.

Here's the description of the game

Prepare yourself for a brutal combat experience where every decision made will have consequential results. Take on the role of a slave who is about to be sacrificed, stumbles upon a forbidden book that allows its readers to relive battles between sorcerers and monsters of the past. In order to use the magic during fierce battles, the player must be willing to make a sacrifice - ranging from personal belongings, a limb, or even a life.

I don't see how people are reading "Monster Hunter" into that. You use your own body for attacks, apparently. You relive battles out of a book.

No mention of crafting or gathering resources.

Yes, the combat looks MH like. But combat in MH is only part of the game. And that's what people seem to be overlooking. People buy MH and sink hours and hours into it, building up their gear. I just don't see how that fits into this game at all. It seems more like Lord of Apocalypse.

SS is seen as a MH knockoff most likel due to the likely missionbased structure and the fact you basicaly face a huge monster at the end of each mission.

And that's what they rant on, but when you get down to it, aren't a lot of games having you face monsters, so it's really subjective and redundant.

If SS plays like Lord of Apocalypse that would be awesome.

You use itens to use magic too. We actually don't know if the game has gears or not, because they simply never said.

Why just not... you know... wait for the demo before saying the game will be a flop?

Pretty awesome bundle.
I'm really interested in how soul sacrifice is received since rather than securing MH Sony put all their eggs into their own IP.
Hopefully it works for them.

How's that play, fluidly? MH combat is awful.
Lord of Apocalypse is a big step up from Aracana. Couldn't stand the PSP one, but blasted through Apocalypse on the Vita (bought it with the console).

From what I've experienced during the TGS, SS combat is a bit different, but I think I like it even more.

As for the different versions, I was super hyped after seeing the double pack, but since the DDL version is only 4,9k yen, I think I'll go with that. Want to have it with me at all times.

It's pretty, I must admit. It's a shame a rather nice looking console has to be attached to a rather mundane looking game. I've tried to find something interesting in Soul Sacrifice, but I just end up feeling like its a bad Dante's Inferno/Devil May Cry knock-off..

I think you need to do further research, because that statement is ridiculous.

Goodbye with this mess. Inaccurate false mess I might add

Hahaha. Nothing like DMC, this is like Demon's Souls and Monster Hunter having a baby.

Sony needs to push this pretty hard. A month earlier 3DS gets DQVIIR and MH4 is rumored to be coming in March, but if it's April, then it gives Sony some breathing room.

SCEJ is pretty worthless when it comes to marketing though, I remember GOW games used to be marketed by Capcom in Japan.

In my last post, I explained that monsters in the world of PS Vita’s Soul Sacrifice are what have become of humans who succumbed to darkness, using magic according to their desire. Today, I’m pleased to reveal a new monster, “Leviathan,” and to share its backstory.

Once upon a time, in a kingdom far away, there were two twin princes. The older twin excelled at everything, and the younger one failed at just as much. The two were so different that it was a wonder that the same blood flowed through their veins. It was like pairing up a giant and a dwarf. The younger brother grew up with a severe inferiority complex and developed an extremely dark personality. He started to enjoy collecting ferocious animals, one in particular being a crocodile from another kingdom. He put the crocodile in a cage, where he tormented it. It was the only time he could ever feel strong.

Years went by, and it was finally time for the heir to take the throne. Of course, the chosen heir was none other than the eldest of the twin brothers. Jealous, the younger prince stormed off to his room. He sat there, staring at his crocodile. “If only I could get the crocodile to kill my brother…” he thought. Just then a strange voice resonated in the room and the prince could feel his body drown in magic…

Live on in Ghost Mode

In addition to revealing this fearsome new monster, I’m excited to share a key new element to the game’s multiplayer experience: Ghost Mode. The co-op multiplayer mode of Soul Sacrifice is not just about playing offense or defense. You will use yourself and allies as a catalyst for magic, and truly battle together.

At times, you’ll use magic to stop time so your allies can attack. Other times, you can choose to help aid your dying friends with your healing power. There are many choices available to you, and your victory depends on your decisions. And it doesn’t end if you fall during a co-op battle. With Ghost Mode, you will become a “ghost” and continue to aid your allies. Players that have become ghosts are able to openly observe the statuses of the enemies and ally members. You can strengthen your team mates or make the enemies vulnerable by touching them on the screen. So even after you die, you can keep aiding your party and continue the co-op battle until the end with your friends.

It was announced this week that Soul Sacrifice will release in Japan on March 7th, 2013. Please stay tuned regarding final release dates and details for North America and Europe; more information is just around the corner!

So each big monster has its own backstory? Sounds neat. And Ghost mode sounds like a good way to handle a player dying in multiplayer.

I'm pretty hyped for the game, but that's one ugly Vita model.

Also I'm still debating on whether I'm gonna get this and a Vita or MH4 and a 3DSLL in March since I still don't have either.

Yeah, it's miles ahead of having a player respawn at a camp site and possibly run through four or five areas with associated loading screens just to get back into a fight.

Also, it takes away the penalty of having a quest over caused by one or two bad players that tends to plague games of this genre.

This game looks incredible. One of my most anticipated games of next year. I hope it can live up to my expectations.
