So buying a used WiiU has its advantages

whoever owned the console before me purchased multiple games, meaning all the games he purchased are available to redownload for free....This is with a new account btw I setup as well. Games are clearly linked to Console itself. Advice to those buying a second hand WiiU's...check all the games on the Store...you might be in for some "free" games!

Guevara 01-03-2013 11:42 PM

Oh Nintendo

xxracerxx 01-03-2013 11:43 PM

Games tied to the system rather than the profile?

I pray the other companies do not follow suit.

Zee-Row 01-03-2013 11:44 PM

So whats the point of a Nintendo Network account again?

GraveRobberX 01-03-2013 11:44 PM

lolwat?

5amshift 01-03-2013 11:46 PM

Yep, going to be doing this when my time to pick-up a Wii has come.

Camp Lo 01-03-2013 11:46 PM

Nintendo won't be happy with this megaton

ElectricBlanketFire 01-03-2013 11:46 PM

brb...going to find a Wii U with Zombie U...U.

CSX 01-03-2013 11:46 PM

Value of used wiiUs higher than new ones confirmed?

Gooster 01-03-2013 11:47 PM

Let's just get this out of the way:

iceatcs 01-03-2013 11:48 PM

Same happened to me with used DSi I bought. I mean lots of free games.

Baconsammy 01-03-2013 11:48 PM

Well then, that may actually make selling it easier too. "Selling without games, but I did buy NSMBU and Nintendoland from the eshop...wink."

chertipros 01-03-2013 11:48 PM

That is pretty dumb of Nintendo

Pandoracell 01-03-2013 11:48 PM

Gamestop and, presumably others, will start wiping them if they haven't already.

PetriP-TNT 01-03-2013 11:48 PM

I am.... okay with this! As long as you can download them to your new console too

Mik_Pad 01-03-2013 11:48 PM

I can't wait when GameStop starts charging more for used Wii U's with pre installed games. Lol

Alligatorjandro 01-03-2013 11:49 PM

Where'd you get it from?

Colonel Mustard 01-03-2013 11:49 PM

Did this with the used Wii I bought. Got Bit Trip Beat and about 14 VC games just for checking!

Gahiggidy 01-03-2013 11:49 PM

There ought to be an option to de-couple the system ID and eShop purchases before you sell or give it away.

GraveRobberX 01-03-2013 11:49 PM
Gamestop and, presumably others, will start wiping them if they haven't already.
This is Gamestop we are talking about...

Same place where a 5 year old got a 3DS with porn installed *cries*

DSN2K 01-03-2013 11:50 PM

so far Ive got trine 2 and Nano Assault for free....

bkfount 01-03-2013 11:50 PM

I was offering mine for $330 with NSMBU and nintendoland on Craigslist and no one bit. Maybe I should have just waited to buy a used one then.

MormaPope 01-03-2013 11:51 PM

Wii-U should've launched in Spring 2013, so many oversights and weird issues.

DSN2K 01-03-2013 11:51 PM
Gamestop and, presumably others, will start wiping them if they haven't already.
Console was wiped....it must be on a Basic hardware level, all the games that had been purchased were labelled...."redownload"

xxracerxx 01-03-2013 11:53 PM
Console was wiped....it must be on a Basic hardware level, all the games that had been purchased were labelled...."redownload"
Can you sort by purchased games or do you manually have to go down the list?

Interesting. Guess you future owners have a whole new meta-game to look forward to!

-MB- 01-03-2013 11:54 PM

Should not be possible, if u delete the account the title rights should have been deleted too.

drkOne 01-03-2013 11:54 PM

To anyone who didn't know/is surprised, where have you been?
Everything is tied to the NNID, which is tied to the console, and every account on that console is able to access all of the console's content.
I'm pretty sure Nintendo realized this was going to happen but didn't care.

Bgamer90 01-03-2013 11:56 PM

I knew about the NNID being locked to the console but It never occurred to me that it was possible for a situation like this to happen due to it.

Wow. Just wow (lol)...

ASTROID2 01-03-2013 11:56 PM

If you delete your profile are they gone?

DSN2K 01-03-2013 11:57 PM
Can you sort by purchased games or do you manually have to go down the list?
way I have found the games so far is pot luck, clicked on trine 2, went to view details and it said redownload.

BibiMaghoo 01-03-2013 11:58 PM
way I have found the games so far is pot luck, clicked on trine 2, went to view details and it said redownload.
That's gonna be a problem when the store has more content.

Striek 01-03-2013 11:58 PM

Nice. Although its just a doubling down of the incompetence Nintendo has in the online account arena, heh.

xxracerxx 01-03-2013 11:59 PM
way I have found the games so far is pot luck, clicked on trine 2, went to view details and it said redownload.
Good god. So that means you have to go through every full game and see if it was purchased before?

TunaLover 01-03-2013 11:59 PM

This is why Nintendo tells you that's "recomended" delete your WiiShop account once you want format your system.

ipitydatfu 01-03-2013 11:59 PM

awesome feature

-MB- 01-03-2013 11:59 PM

Seems it could be a matter of the previous owner formatting the internal nand without deleting his account beforehand.

radioheadrule83 01-04-2013 12:00 AM
Should not be possible, if u delete the account the title rights should have been deleted too.
This, essentially. It has the same options as 3DS in that you can unlink the club Nintendo account from your NNID, delete the user account and format the machine. Maybe a quirk of an unlinked user not deleting their stuff before selling?

Either way, awesome news for you - what games did you get? :D

Edit: trine 2 is pretty cool. Check sonic racing and mighty switch force!

TheChewyWaffles 01-04-2013 12:01 AM

Nintendo will never get the fucking online portion right. Never. They were light-years behind in 2006. They're arguably worse even today with the advent of the Wii U.

This sort of thing was awful when the Wii was released. That they went with a similar system for Wii U is unfathomable. Do these people even use the internet?

trine 2, Nano Assault...still looking!!!

Nerfgun 01-04-2013 12:02 AM

I knew this thread would come

earlier than expected

plainr_ 01-04-2013 12:02 AM

So is digital content tied to the console or the NNID? Or is everything tied to the NNID, which is tied to the console? I'm confus.

Baconsammy 01-04-2013 12:03 AM
Nintendo will never get the fucking online portion right. Never. They were light-years behind in 2006. They're arguably worse even today with the advent of the Wii U.
If they removed their head from their ass and did what every other company in the world does and link to people instead of to hardware....and so on and so forth. I can't believe we're still having this conversation about Nintendo. So sad.

maquiladora 01-04-2013 12:03 AM

If I do buy a Wii U in the future, it will be used for sure.

bkfount 01-04-2013 12:03 AM
Good god. So that means you have to go through every full game and see if it was purchased before?
What a hassle for potentially free games.

Busaiku 01-04-2013 12:04 AM

Great move, Nintendo.
What a hassle for potentially free games.
Can you sort your games now on the store by purchased? I don't have a Wii U, so I don't know i this is possible even with your own account.

D_prOdigy 01-04-2013 12:05 AM
