20k is amazing for shmup. Wow. Finally some good news as those numbers have to convince Cave to keep porting all their unreleased games to the X360.

has cave made any/many games for the 360? I miss cave games :(

There's Deathsmilies, Mushihime Futari later on, and Ketsui/DoJ Black Label by 5pb.
Already just as many Cave shooters as the PS2.

And with the success of DS we're only going to see more 360 shooters. Whoohoo

Yeah, it's the port with the MHTri demo.
Ah. Now it makes sense. It's just like the confusion between Final Fantasy XIII Demo* and whatever else they called it.

Hopefully Cheesemeister will be able to automate his parser, so that multiple people would be able to post the OP and get the thread out sooner. :)

Have we heard one way or the other?
I know they were having trouble getting a second shipment out... but I fear it just dropped off.
Oh well, it's coming out here, so I don't care.

This point was raised last week. Apparently*, they sold out of their initial shipment. Whether this leads to re-orders will be another story entirely (if demand was predicted well enough, there won't be).

I think I vaguely remember someone casually mentioning it in passing, so my memory is about as good as a guess.

Good to see Deathsmiles charting strong, that's the best 1st week for a shooter on the 360!

Does anyone have data on how previous PS2 Cave shooters did?

Isn't this the 3rd platform it's been available on? Nothing will ever be good enough in your mind, will it?
Regardless of how many platforms it's been available on, that's still not a good first day : first week ratio. That combined with a minimal hardware bump spells trouble.

I'm getting kind of tired of people bitching about me being negative when it's the fucking truth.

That's a pretty poor post-first day performance for MHG.

Wait, that's just the first day sales? I don't think that's so bad. Especially for a re-release.

What were the first day numbers?

I wouldn't go expecting a huge hardware bump from a port - even a port with a demo of a huge release. Did RE4 for the PS2 give the PS2 a huge hardware jump? (Serious question)

No, first day sales were nearly 100k. Meaning it only did about 35k for the rest of the week.

What day of the week did it release? That's a pretty hardcore fanbase.

Capcom's probably priming the PSP port as we speak.
Pretty much all new releases in Japan come out on Thursdays. Media Create weeks run through Sundays.

Let's assume, for the sake of argument, that we're on par with the third week of sales (35k remainder for MHGWii vs 30.4k 2nd wk for MHGPS2), we could reasonably expect 70k/230k = 30% of the LTD to come from the title's legs.

Applying that to the first week sales and expecting the same decline pattern, we might expect ~190k LTD for this release (or somewhere in the ballpark).

It's as good as a guess, but I think as an estimate, it'd be reasonable. It's not bad for a port of a game the entire existing fanbase already owns AND has played the sequel to. My guess is that it would have done a lot worse were it not for the MH3 demo.

EDIT: I notice that this release of MHG is tracking ahead of the PS2 version. My guess is that the fanbase is bigger now thanks to the PSP releases. If we do a less conservative drop off, only 44% of the LTD came from outside the first week. Applying that to our current figure and we get a final LTD of ~240k

So, my prediction is an LTD of between 190k and ~240k.

Thanks. I couldn't remember if it was Tuesdays or Thursdays. Still, like I said, MH seems to have a pretty hardcore fanbase (at least on consoles) that all go out and buy it day one.

True. But Golden Week can make up for this. Let's see how it drops till then.

You're lucky it's almost Golden Week here, and I should have some time to work on it.

You're comparing Enterbrain ascertained first day numbers (92,000) with Media Create first week sales, though. If you're going by the leaked Famitsu numbers for the first week (143,000) you're getting 51,000 sold units for the rest of the week and a pretty healthy and expected first day/week ratio.

Well... it's still low. But yeah, let's see hoe those numbers evolve.

I don't think it's considerably low. I mean it's nothing to brag about either, but pretty much in line with my (admittedly conservative) expectations.

Why? Come on now, MHG is a remake of the upgrade to the first ps2 game. It's not even Dos (and yeah I know dos isn't as popular) But still.

Stop mixing up trackers Link. You of all people should know there is a distinct difference between Enterbrain numbers and Media-Create numbers.
