The 360 Games on Demand Thread of UnUnified Prices, Releases & Paying Way Over Retail

Gowans

Member
So on the 11th of August Games on Demand goes live though some titles have already started showing up.
Sadly Microsoft has abandoned it's world wide unified price point for these titles and they are also over RRP.At the moment unless your really killing yourself to get up and change a disc I would recommend avoid. It's a great idea with unfortunately many price points that kill it.

Edit Regarding the High Price Points: Microsoft Have Responded
No one retailer has the lowest pricing for every product, and our program is about giving people 24 x 7 convenience and selection when shopping for Xbox 360 games.

We're incredibly excited about what Games on Demand means for digital distribution, and will continue to evaluate and evolve the service to meet market and consumer demands.

Give me a hand I'll keep the op updated as long as you let me know what's new.

And in some regions ( like Switzerland ), they all cost 2800MSP for some reason. Wich is even higher. :lol

Put them up and I'll put them in the op, along with RRP's if you can find them.

It's crazy when you see it all together.

With the exception of Mass Effect, all of these games are more expensive than their retail counterparts.

I know this is in the thread title, but still...wow. DD has a ways to go before it becomes mainstream, and this is one of the biggest reasons why.

Wow, these prices are absolutely ridiculous.

360 Games on Demand and Avatar Marketplace are nothing more than social experiments to see how many people don't value their money.

Up on the Dutch GoD section :

CoD2 for 29,99 / 2400 MSP
Oblivion for 29,99 / 2400 MSP
NFS:Carbon for 29,99 / 2400 MSP
Star Wars Complete Saga for 29,99 / 2400 MSP
Mass Effect for 29,99 / 2400 MSP
Viva Pinata for 29,99 / 2400 MSP
Assassin's Creed for 29,99 / 2400 MSP

who really expected these to be less than rrp? just look at any other download service.... at least it gives them something else to shove in the deal of the week

Repost from the other thread:

There are seven games on the Norwegian marketplace:

Assassin's Creed
Call of Duty 2
Lego Star Wars Complete Saga
Mass Effect
Need for Speed Carbon
Oblivion
Viva Pinata

All ar 299NOK, or 2400 MSP. The price difference between the direct currency and the points are huge though. 299NOK vs. 197NOK. So you save 34% by using Microsoft Points instead of your credit card (not to mention if you manage to snag some of those bargain points cards).

Hell, by using points, most of those games are even cheaper than at retail (at least after checking prisguide.no). Color me pleasantly surprised.

Ridiculous prices. I hope they don't sell well. I was thinking about downloading Bioshock to play through it again...$30?? Not happening.

No need. If these are the actual prices EVERYWHERE (IE: Overpriced) it's going to fall on it's face like the "X-box Originals" and in a couple of years MS is going to drop support because they think we're stupid and going to pay for the convience factor of DD for more than the disc copy.

Switzerland prices:

CoD2 : 49CHF / 32€ - 2800 MSP
Oblivion : 49CHF / 32€ - 2800 MSP
NFS:Carbon : 49CHF / 32€ - 2800 MSP
Star Cars Complete Saga : 49CHF / 32€ - 2800 MSP
Mass Effect : 49CHF / 32€ - 2800 MSP
Viva Pinata : 49CHF / 32€ - 2800 MSP
Assassin's Creed : 49CHF / 32€ - 2800 MSP

Its the highest so far. I wonder if Microsoft thinks that since everyone put their money in our banks, that we are all rich as fuck ? WTF ?

This service is going to flop hard, the games are too expensive and don't really offer any advantage over their retail counterparts.

They should've gone with a rental idea rather than game purchases, I guarantee that would be a much more successful venture than what they are doing with Games On Demand.

DD is great for the types of games that couldn't be sold at retail, but it doesn't really suit the games that are also sold at retail.

I saw NFS:Carbon today, brand new for €15.99 and I thought that was a little pricey! :lol

This is truely insane.

The only way I'm ever going to jump in on one of these is if they start putting up new releases on the ship dates. Oh, and someone gifts me a 120GB HDD.

maybe if they sell like hotcakes when they're at DOTW prices, they'll realize the things are priced too high.

Welp, going back to the mentality that this service doesn't exist. What a waste of time.

Pretty much (well apart from whinging about the fact MS has totally screw this up here).

Wow, $30 for Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty 2.

I could go to Game Crazy right now and get those games for $10 used... probably $15 to $20 new.

Mass Effect isn't even an exception. The retail version comes with Bringing Down the Sky, behind the scenes stuff, a premium theme and gamerpics, etc, all for free. The GoD version has...?

I guess Microsoft is trying to bank in on the lazy gamer stereotype. Why should I leave the house and actually buy the game for less, when I can just download it in the comfort of my own home? The sad thing is, it will probably work (for a while), but they will eventually lower the price on these things.

I dunno, I checked a few against Amazon's (US) prices, and they appear to be the same as the retail price. They surely wouldn't undercut the retail price, not that anyone would buy them at retail.

truly101

I got grudge sucked!
Dericulous! I wonder if MS will believe this to be a failure because nobody wanted these games when in truth the prices were too dame high a la Xbox originals.

... Greatest/Platnium Hits? Because my copy I got last year around this time for the same price as this release doesn't have Bring Down the Sky or anything else. :lol

Hahaha, I'm Canadian and looking at those price, my butt is hurting soo much :lol
Looking at the current exchange rate, it makes absolutly no sense. Oh and this is forgetting that M$ is taxing me 15% rate on them stupid points to begin with.

This price strategy is beyon abismal. Good thing I'm currently not giving much playtime to the 360. Still, its a damn shame and I take it personnaly M$. Will probably have a negative impact on my support to your products.

Yeah this is a straight up fleecing of the consumer going on here.

Perfect Dark Zero is like $5 new at some places around here, and $30 for CoD2, a launch game? WTF....

I didn't plan on buying anything prior to the price reveals so nothing's changed for me. I'm not surprised by the prices as Steam has shown that DD isn't the cheaper alternative 90% of the time (weekend deals account for the missing 10%).

I don't understand this logic at all. How are retail prices supposed to compete with used prices and how is it MS' fault if/when they don't?

They are priced like that for the convenience factor. Sure, I can get a six pack of beer at the grocery store for $6.99 and drive there, wait in line, drive all the way back... or I can walk out of the door in my PJ's and walk around the corner to the liquor store and get a six pack for $9.99. Personally, I'm willing to pay for convenience but not in this case but I bet there are a lot of folks that will.

I can't find them priced lower for new copies either.

No, its the same price as rest of € europe as far as RRP go.
