so why do they hate "crystal bearers" so much in this game? Did previous crystal bearers abuse there power? And are thetr more Yukes and Selkies in this game?
ShockingAlberto said:
It seems most Crystal Bearers are jerks. Layle is an exception, not a rule, and even he's kind of a jerk.

Think, uh, One Piece.
PusherT said:
Watching that E3 trailer that is the impression I got, the previous crystal bearers had issue or abused there power. It seems the people don't know if they are good or evil and WTF happened to the other races not named lilties?

Actually we don't know how many bearers are really bad, but once the rumor spread about them being bad(probably from a few bearers committing crimes) everyone started to fear their power.

Also the Lilty empire has pretty much taken over most of the region/continent(if not the world). As a result the Lilties are usually nobles, Clavats are somewhere in the middle(though they usually work as farmers), Selkies didn't want to conform to the empire so they usually end up breaking the law(but the ones that don't usually take on odd jobs, Keiss is an exception because he made a choice to work for the empire), Yukes are rumored to have gone extinct by the actions of the empire.

Also, as a result of some of the empires actions, magic has disappeared from the world. Only crystal bearers can use magic now. But bearers can only use one type of magic, example: Layle = Gravity, Amidatelione(?) = Warp, and there was another unknown bearer using fire in one trailer.

why the hell would it come out on a Saturday (26th of December)

Boxing day (or the 26th if US doesn't have that) isn't unprecedented. Nintendo released a DS game in the UK on boxing day last year, and others have in the past.

kenji said:
which trailer? i'd like to see it =0

In the E3 trailer there is a guy who's hand is on fire, a second later an explosion occurs behind Layle.

It's only a 3 second clip in the trailer so most didn't notice it.

STORY

A thousand years have passed since the events of the original FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES. The destruction of the Yuke Crystal during the Great War had at once brought the victorious Lilty Tribe prosperity, the defeated Yuke Tribe apparent annihilation, and the world a new age of science and reason. The young mercenary Layle is one such crystal bearer, who has been hired to escort the new passenger airship Alexis, the pinnacle of Lilty technology and a symbol of their current dominance. However, when the Alexis is suddenly besieged by a horde of monsters, Layle comes face-to-face with an adversary thought to have vanished from the pages of history, on a quest that may threaten the future of the world...

December 26 makes absolutely no sense, and I have no clue when Amazon will get it to me as a result (says January 6 at the moment), but hooray for a game not getting pushed into Q1 2010 (even if it's only missing it by 5 days).

Are you serious? We've been waiting for this game for about 3-4 years. :lol
Sure, but when's the last time an FF game was released in the US 1-2 months after Japan?

I guess it's now fair game to shit on the previous five minor ones? :lol EDIT: Oops, seven--sorry two Crystal Defenders.

I wonder how this game will perform in Japan.
That's always been a bit of a wildcard, but if it's really going to show up in the short time span between a major DS effort and XIII, it seems pretty boned.

Yeah its crazy that they would be releasing three FF games in a span of less than three months, let alone three single-player RPG/adventure type games. And based on the hype level of the games, its also obvious that FFXIII is completely drowning out both FF Gaiden and Crystal Bearers, which is unfortunate because both these games actually sound like solid efforts from SE (compared to the FF spinoffs from the last few years).

Clearly SE want Crystal Bearers to fail the test, so they can have an excuse to never support a Nintendo home system again.

But you won't defeat me, SE. I'm going to import your game. Across the ocean, I will fight you, and I will win.

Works for me, Day 1 here too. I'm too damned hyped for this game!
Anyone quoting my tag can go jump off a clip without Layle's powers, this game deserves the hype!

Furthermore, their efforts to ruin the brand name on Wii by releasing a DS game as a nearly full price Wii game probably won't help.

To be fair, five of those were WiiWare and one was a DS game.

What was the last one?

Anyway, day -0 for now.

I'll probably check some reviews first though.

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
Like, I get "crystals" and their direct and symbolic nature are deeply rooted in the Final Fantasy franchise as a whole, but don't you think they are... over using it a bit much?

I mean, not only do crystals play a prominent role in each release in the series, but now they get their own spin-offs (Crystal Chronicles), spin-offs of spin-offs (Crystal Defenders), mainline series (Fabula Crystalis Whatever) titles.

Like, I get it. Crystals are powerful.
Hell, even Dissida is all about crystals. Well, and flowers.

Would people cry foul if FF got a new mascot?

FF 8 doesn't have crystals, what would you suggest for condensed magical energy?

Fair point.

Saturday's still a weird day to release a game, even if it is Boxing Day. (Which we don't observe in the United States, APZonerunner, but I'm aware of its existence.)

Like Super Mario Galaxy, I suppose?

i really like that idea. it's what they did in dawn of discovery too

it allows them to make a great, accessible, multiplayer game without changing it into a more "casual friendly" genre

I can understand the typo because the C and F key are so close to each other but you really ought to read what you write before you post.

A helpful hint. :)

Guess that's one more game for me this year. At least it clears up 2010 a bit. Hits right in the sweet spot between semesters too. That's how I was able to play Persona 4.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it will in fact threaten the future of the world.

Excellent. I was definitely worried about the Square tax being applied to this game, especially after EA just set the terrible precedent of releasing the standalone Wii version Beatles Rock Band at $60.

edit: Why don't people like this date? It's unorthodox, sure, but it's perfect for those who get a break from work/school between Christmas and New Year's.

It would be awesome if the plot never really specified if the future of the world was in danger, and they were all just kinda assuming / going out on a limb.

get over the use of condensed magical energy?

can't people go to war over traditional things, like land or a girl or something?

You're right, the forces of nature given form are totally inadequate.

Didn't FFX release a few days after Christimas 2001? That still sold millions...

December 26th certainly isn't a good time to release a game (because it won't show up on December NPD and gaf will call if a bomba) but seeing how most Wii games aren't very front-loaded I don't think it will have a huge effect in the end.

It's probably better off selling in December/January than it is getting raped by Red Steel 2 and Monster Hunter 3 in March.

hatchx said:

Just checked, and you're right. December 30th.

Still, that was FFX. The first next-gen main Final Fantasy. It's not really comparable.

Dec 26th is one of the highest grossing sales days of the year. I don't see why it's striking people as an odd choice.
Mostly because if they release it earlier, they get the benefit of the highest grossing sales season of the year, and then also the day after Christmas.

If the alternatives were 12/26 or January, then it makes sense.
