Finally, after 2 long months, everyone's prediction is a reality.

Two long months indeed, and PS3 barely edges it out. Wonder how much Torne and RGG4 will do for PS3 hardware.

Look at that PS3 > Wii, Nintendo is doomed, going third party pretty soon. They will convert Wii Sports & Wii Sports Resort to PS3's Arc and X360's Natal.

Joking aside, I wonder what next week # will look like. PS3 still > Wii, or reversal ?

I'm not going to make this into a big deal because there's far more important things in life going on but at the end of the day i make predictions when i want to and not to anybody elses time table. Sometimes i make predictions before/at the weekend and sometimes after, you're not the first poster who's tried to dismiss what i do and i'm sure you won't be the last. I call it the Michael Pachter effect, there's plenty of people who say he barely knows anything and they reckon they could do his job far better than he does because it's so 'easy', yet nobody has stepped up and actually done that.....go figure. Now shall we get back to discussing the actual sales of games? Here's a topic starter, does anybody think the new Yakuza game stands a good chance of breaking 400,000 week 1?....i do.
If you want to compete in competition, you need to comply with the rules. One of the rules is the time table, IIRC. Just like NPD prediction, there is a time table for that. If you submit the prediction after the time limit, people are free to ignore your prediction, no matter how close it is to the actual #.
BTW, why didn't you participate in NPD's S/W Prediction ?

My guess is PS3 will be lower than Wii next week. The PS3 had an abnormal about of new releases this week, and barely edged out the Wii.

Shouldn't the Wii be the one with an abnormal amount of software releases? ;P

Capcom was smart releasing RE5: AE before the DLC, and only on the PS3. A lot of RE5 buyers have probably sold their copy a week or two after buying it, as happens in Japan, and thus were eager to buy AE. And since the extra content is on the disc, they can resell it. Probably explains the high numbers.

Kind of OT, but what are used prices for Vesperia (PS3) looking like these days? I'll be in Tokyo next week, and I'm tempted to pick it up :lol

That's the whole point tho, i'm not 'competing in a competition' in the japanese threads, i make the odd prediction here and there just for the fun of it and that is all. Of course people are free to ignore it, i don't expect it to be counted in any kind of table or league, however slagging it off and calling it worthless is not on. The thing with me and predictions is generally i only predict the games i like, so that's why i don't participate in the s/w npd prediction league as each month i would have to predict for a bunch of games i don't care about.

I was wondering about that. Patch in, maybe? Though the thought of Capcom giving away something for free seems kind of unlikely.

It will be patched in whenever the Arc controller is available. Capcom issued a statement about that in Japan some time ago regarding that.

yugioh5ds from ameblo has an amazing preliminary famitsu report every Monday. His estimates are so close to real numbers that I start to wonder if he is doing what the owner of thedrill blog is doing with Media Create data. I went at least 8 weeks back and I didn't find any error>5%. I think we have found a new super early ''reliable'' leak.

So NoJ hasn't announced when they are releasing Super Mario Galaxy 2 or Metroid: Other M yet right? Seems like they are going to put out Xenoblade before those two, and Galaxy will be a June game, and Other M will be later in the Summer, along with Span Smasher or whatever the hell that's called now.

Actually, I'd love to see the numbers.

Persona 3 Portable is nº 8 three months after its release and we know it sold 10k in the first two weeks. Maybe the total downloads are 20k by now (pretty reasonable number I think) and that would mean we are missing a 10% of the total sales (203k vs 183k).

Here is the Wii's release list right now (taken from gamefaqs but I think its accurate):

Winning Post World 2010

Spore: Kimi wa Tsukuru Hero

04/22 Ivy the Kiwi?

How does this compare to other re-releases of popular titles on the same platform as a percentage of first release total?
I don't have an easy way to check them all, but just looking at some of the more successful ones by lifetime numbers, I'm not really seeing many 100+K openings. Final Fantasy X International had a 116K first week, and Final Fantasy X-2 International had an even bigger 171K first week. Since the originals were ~2 million games, that's a smaller percentage than RE5. Tales of Destiny Director's Cut is a narrow miss at 97K. PS2 Tales of Destiny original release ended under 400K, so that's comparable.

Resident Evil is a comparable title and the only comparable RE.

[PS1] Resident Evil (Capcom) - 148.904 / 1.194.773
[PS1] Resident Evil: Director's Cut (Capcom) - 144.349 / 368.053

Wouldn't Kingdom Hearts fit as well?

Kingdom Hearts - 411k (840k)
Kingdom Hearts Final Mix - 164k (358k)

Kingdom Hearts II - 738k (1129k)
Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix + - 182k (337k)

Btw, Dengeki numbers stravaganza. RE5AE? 160k units! God Eater? Up to 493k already!

PD: Thinking about it, there are many kind of re-releases that could fit too. Just depends on how loosely you search. Examples: Winning Eleven -> Final Evolution, Pawapuro -> Ketteiban, Metal Gear -> Subsomething, Giren no Yabou -> Kouryaku Shireisho, Basara -> Heroes, Musou -> Empires/Extreme Legends...

The impression I have for Dengeki is that the use to overtrack almost everything, at least for the top selling titles. I wonder how NSMB DS managed to escape from this rule.

The big joke was at 2006 Golden Week when DS sold ~200k for the week (down from 270k the previous week) because of huge shortage problems and Dengeki had it at 400k.

No the small increase (in fact 33 %) in PS3 numbers this week is from the 250 Go model and perhaps some resident evil fans who upgraded from fat PS3 to slim PS3...

Heck, NSMB would have sold more if it wasn't for Nintednos super conservative shipment.

The first I looked from what was suggested, [PS2]DW3's expansion has (118% / 71%) as (FW / LTD) ratio compared to the original. Didn't feel like I needed to look further. Haha. Not mentioned yet, [PS2]Monster Hunter G has (106% / 80%); [PSP]MHP2G, *overflow*.

Both franchises benefiting from growing popularity at the time. Now, DW6 has only (45% / 39%), which is more in-line with RE5. Would have to really dig to find other franchises with stable sales across the last iterations.

Kinda random but I counted the staff credits behind Classic Dungeon to see the team size.
The game was made by 5 people + 2 sound effects guys + 1 composer who did 6 tracks + marketing/sales/qa. So...yeah, ~10 people over a 6-12 month development cycle. If they get 10k sales at 4800-5600yen, I think N1 is probably very ok with that.

Also interesting on Amazon PSP charts, Classic Dungeon is #98, Prinny2 is #46, and Zettai Hero LE is #18 and the SE is #22.

IIRC, I believe that was two weeks worth of sales instead of just one, because Dengeki doesn't release numbers during Ōgon shūkan. Or maybe you're right and I'm totally confusing it with something else, that could be possibile as well :py

Wouldn't MGS2: Substance and MGS3: Subsistence also count for rereleases to look at? I don't have the numbers on me though, just a suggestion.
I did check those, but was surprised at how small they were. I'll whip up some comparison images, but keep in mind both the original and Sub-whatever versions tended to have budget rereleases so neither line shows the full story.

Substance

Subsistence

Worth noting that Portable Ops Plus did pretty great compared to the original Portable Ops, for whatever sort of expansion/sequel thing you consider it to be, though it doesn't contain all the content of the original.

IIRC, I believe that was two weeks worth of sales instead of just one, because Dengeki doesn't release numbers during Ōgon shūkan. Or maybe you're right and I'm totally confusing it with something else, that could be possibile as well :py
You made me look for it. It wasn't Golden Week but another week of 2006 Dengeki had DS at 400k and Media Create and Famitsu at 200k but with the search disabled I can't find which one. Unless my memory is completely off at this.

The bargain shelves :lol
Phantom Hourglass did pretty well in Japan. What happened here? How did it sale compared to PH? Was it just overshipping?

Spirit Tracks has underperformed against Phantom Hourglass. I imagine that that fact is a combination of multiple factors, namely that it was released relatively quickly after Phantom Hourglass, and that the game is very similar (aesthetically, at least) to it as well.

Edit: Trust Banned Nintendo for misinformation.

On the other hand, Cammie said that Nintendo has sold (shipped?) 4.5 million copies of the game to NA so far, which, afaik, means it has outperformed Phantom Hourglass there.

It sold around 600k in December, the only month of sales we have, so definitely not at 4.5mil sold.
