Radio Free Nintendo: Doin' It Live (For The Kids)! - Saturday 12/4

Felt this was worth posting especially since I can't recall another show like it ever. Plus, Craig Harris is rumored to be making his first public appearance since leaving IGN. Might that be relevant to your interests?

Who: Radio Free Nintendo, a leading Nintendo podcast, and other internet gaming personalities

What: A special podcast telethon

When: Saturday, December 4, 12pm EST/9am PST/5pm GMT

Where: Stream and donation box available here

Why: To raise money for Child's Play

Here at Nintendo World Report, we've long been supporters of Child's Play, the fantastic charity that provides toys and games to hospitalized kids. So, when our old friend Karl Castaneda brought us an idea for doing a special, live-streaming version of RFN to support Child's Play, we got excited. Not only can we do things live that don't make sense in the recorded version, like real-time listener interaction, but the lack of editing means there are fewer constraints on how long the show can run. Then we thought... why not do it telethon-style, all day long? With a respectful nod to Desert Bus for Hope, we present RFN: Doin' It Live... for the Kids!

The idea is pretty simple: keep donating money for this great cause, and we'll keep podcasting. The first hour is free, and each additional hour will have an increasing donation goal to keep us going. It should be self-limiting, but since we aren't set up for Desert Bus-type endurance runs, we'll have a maximum of 12 hours. Can you imagine it, up to 12 hours of Radio Free Nintendo insanity? To make that happen, we'll need to raise a lot of money for sick kids. And to make you want to hear more and more of the show and keep donating, we need to offer exciting programming each hour. If you have any ideas or requests, please let us know in advance! You can also get updates on the event and help spread the word by connecting to RFN on Facebook.

***If you are new to RFN, please be advised that the show contains explicit language. We're doin' it for the kids, but the show itself is for grown-ups.***

Thanks for the thread!

Yeah, it should be a lot of fun - we're all really excited for Saturday and raising some money for Child's Play. Donations of any size are welcome. :D

Thanks for the thread! Quick correction: 12pm Eastern is noon, so the event starts at 9am (not pm) Pacific and so on for other time zones.

Also, Craig Harris is a confirmed guest, along with Billy Berghammer and Jeff Kalles (Penny Arcade, also formerly of Nintendo of America). We are working on additional guests but can't confirm anyone else yet.

Later today, I'll be updating the blog page with far more detail on planned content, the tentative schedule, and our fundraising goals for each hour.

As mentioned on the last episode of RFN, we would really appreciate any help spreading the word to anyone who might be interested in an all-day, Nintendo-centric live radio show for charity. There will be a lot of listener interaction, so I look forward to maybe talking to some of you on Saturday!

The response has been absolutely awesome - we've already received $900 and the telethon doesn't even start until tomorrow!

With things going this well, I'm really hopeful that we'll be able to send a lot of money CP's way by tomorrow night. :D

We are kicking off with New Business (basically Whatcha Been Playing) with Billy Berghammer making his first post-EGM appearance, at noon EST / 9am Pacific. We also have a ton of prizes to give away throughout the event -- check the blog link above for a complete list, which includes a number of Wii/DS games and some rare gaming swag. I am very excited about the SNES 20th Anniversary discussion, the live GOTY roundtable, and hourly listener call-ins! Hopefully some GAFfers will tune in and tell their friends.

Live radio trivia is about to begin. If you don't know the rules, they will be playing music from classic (or not so classic) Nintendo games and listeners need to guess what the song is. To join in just jump into the chat room. Link here.

We're playing a video game music game right now (with lots of prizes).

Craig Harris goes on at the top of the hour, 2pm Eastern!

Craig Harris and the Radio Free Nintendo crew are discussing Star Fox (SNES) right now live. It is a pretty interesting conversation. You can ask him questions at the end of hour if you join the chat at nintendoworldreport.com

They are talking about the best DS games of the year now. Things could be wrapping up soon if they don't get more donations for Child's Play.

Is this going to be posted on the iTunes feed? Can't listen to it right now :(.

Apparently we got a very good recording of the whole thing, and we're hoping to post it in sections on the iTunes feed within a few days.
