Pokémon is fucking amazing.
But it did like nothing for 3DS.. disappointing.

Vita is the simply most desirable handheld it seems :lol

Wow, absolutely no 3DS bump from Pokemon. Though I suppose the news of the XL might be discouraging people from purchasing.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
Dragon Quest Monsters holding insanely well. Looks like a million seller.

Vita is not surprising at all.

Dragon Quest refuses to let go of the second slot huh? Wonder how long that will actually hold up.

Poor Vita etc. Wonder what the next game to give it a significant bump will be.

05./04. [PS3] Tokyo Jungle (SCEI) - 18,715 / 165,013 (-48%)

This is the real winner here. A low ass budget indie type title on the PS3 published by Sony with minimal marketing doing so well? An original IP with a unique concept to boot? Pretty amazing.

Since I haven't been in Media Create threads in years:

03./01. [PSV] Persona 4: The Golden (Atlus Co.) - 29,293 / 166,369 (-79%)
08./07. [3DS] Mario Tennis Open (Nintendo) - 13,036 / 198,047 (-27%)
17./14. [3DS] Monster Hunter 3 G (Capcom) - 4,269 / 1,481,643 (-23%)
18./13. [3DS] Fire Emblem: Awakening (Nintendo) - 3,972 / 417,760 (-31%)

How do these compare to prior releases and can they be considered successful?

Also 3DS will blow up when the next Pokemon generation is released. Damn.

Pokemon on DS was a miscalculation, IMO.

Look at the GIANT numbers it did, with a minimal 3DS hardware boost. Everyone in Japan already has a DS (probably 3 of them). No one is going to buy a 3DS for B/W 2, they're just playing it on their DS.

What kind of bump would 3DS have gotten if it had a system exclusive Pokemon game.

Pokemon 'might' bump 3DS over a longer period of time I suppose, but generally its sold to the DS user base.

DragonQuest is the new 3DS monster obviously.

Meanwhile Vita...be interesting to see where it goes next week.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3DS seems so much Final Fantasy III DS.

I thougt for sure 3ds would go over 100k.... Guess I was smoking!

Vita, you had a good run. That's a very bad sign dropping 20k units after Persona 4.

That should be a big reason, but it also should be considered that Pokemon players might not be interested on some new 3DS features and will rather play the game on their DS than buying a new console for just a few extras.

Skiesofwonder

Walruses, camels, bears, rabbits, tigers and badgers.

Yep. And I'm loving every second of it!

Vita numbers are so sad. There are barely any releases for the thing so its to be expected :(

Yes, this.

I was very excited for it personally but thought that it had bomb written all over it when it would come to sales.

Really happy to have been wrong.

2 PSV games in top 20 :D

people say the vita is doing poorly, but there are twice as many games in the top 20 as there are games on the best-selling handheld in japan, and hardware sold nearly 10x the amount even when the best-selling hardware got a 50% boost.

P4G is doing better than P3P, Mario Tennis Open is doing worse than the previous console versions, but better than the previous portable version. MH3G is doing much worse than MHP3, FE is doing much better than the previous few portable releases. All 4 games should be considered successful.

I wonder if people trading in old DS or 3DS systems in preparation for 3DS XL might also have lead to some 'phantom' system sales that we just don't see in these numbers.

Surely it would have been more surprising if the 3DS had had a significant boost from the release of a game - even a massively popular one like Pokemon - that is playable on its predecessor?

It would be (kinda) like expecting massive Vita sales because Monster Hunter Portable 3rd V2 came out on PSP and was available on PSN, no?
