Welp, that didn't take long.

Fake but true.

Newly released court papers say that the suspect, James Holmes, was seeing a schizophrenia specialist.

Holmes went on a shooting spree during the premiere of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado, on July 20.

The legal papers lodged by Holmes's lawyers said he was being treated by a psychiatrist at the University of Colorado, where he had studied neuroscience.

The court motion was seeking the source of a media leak.

Holmes's lawyers said this violated a court gagging order and put a fair trial in serious jeopardy.

"The government's disclosure of this confidential and privileged information has placed Mr Holmes's constitutional rights to due process and a fair trial by an impartial jury at serious jeopardy," the attorneys wrote.

In a preview of likely battles to come, the defence lawyers also argued that the contents of the package should not be used as evidence because communications between Holmes and his psychiatrist, Lynne Fenton, were "protected".

The filing said Holmes was Ms Fenton's psychiatric patient.

Ms Fenton teaches at the University of Colorado's medical school and heads student mental health services, in addition to conducting research in schizophrenia and other mental illnesses.

But the document did not indicate how long Holmes had been seeing Ms Fenton or whether she was treating him for mental illness.

edit:
Has anyone thought that booby traps in his apartment were partially intended for him? Meaning, once he set the traps and left the apartment, he'd have to turn himself in, run, kill himself or carry out his plan. there was no going back for him at that point.

Let's not try to equate the two things - while I don't agree with a lot of Obama's foreign policy, having to decide when to attack, when to kill, who to kill and how to 'militaristicly' approach extremely volatile situations isn't something I envy. Obama didn't go into some Pakistani school and shoot up a classroom - equating the two people is insulting everyone involved. It diminishes the severity of the shooters actions, it takes advantage of the death of a dozen people to further a completely non-associated political message and it's just fucking -tacky-.

So much nonsence. When obongo is sent back to Chi-Town,to be with his fellow criminals,I wonder a bit what some of these lost souls are gonna do.I would stay away from movie theaters.

Obongo.. I had never heard that one before.

The freedom of speech argument is stupid. Of course whoever put this billboard up has the right to say what he wants, that doesn't mean what he's saying isn't completely retarded. Because it is.

Also a few years back there was a stink in the area over this billboard:

If that Bob and Tom billboard had to eventually get taken down and this one doesn't, then the Treasure Valley/Idaho is more fucking backwards then I thought.

Not a chance in hell. He set loud music to go off to attract other people to the apartment.

So, a week later, has a reason been provided as to why James did this?

Right now it just seems like, "A guy shot up a theater and killed people randomly, he's in jail now".

Just a lot of speculation. There's been everything from he did it because he failed an oral exam to the idea he was seeing a psychiatrist and may be schizophrenic and all sorts in between. We probably for awhile. I guess when he goes to court on the 30th, we might know a little more. Take everything with a grain of salt.

He detailed his plans to kill people out in a notebook and sent them to a psychiatrist. He did it because he's a fucking nutjob.

I did have more than a couple of people come up to me and point at my Bad Religion sticker on the back of my Neon and tell my that I shouldn't have it there when I lived in Boise, as if it offended them or something.

Wanna hear a good joke? Waste your time helping me! LOL!
Does it feel like a lot of people have already forgotten about this whole thing? Maybe I'm just exaggerating since things have quieted down a little bit.

Not much information right now. The court date is the 30th. You got big stuff going down in Anaheim that's taking precedence. Even this thread is at a crawl now.

Olympics taking lots of news time, and there honestly is not much new to report. Only things that have happened this week have been the funerals, which have seen heavy coverage here in Denver.

Not sure if this has been posted,
'Guns don't kill people... I kill people': Police foil 'copycat killer' wearing sinister T-shirt who called himself 'The Joker' and wanted to 'see boss's brains splattered on the floor'
Police have foiled what they believed could have been another Aurora-scale massacre after a man who called himself 'a joker' and had an arsenal of semi-automatic rifles threatened to shoot up the business from which he was being fired.

Neil Prescott, of Crofton, Maryland, was wearing a T-shirt that read 'Guns don't kill people. I do,' when first confronted by officers on Thursday, police revealed today.

The man, identified in a search warrant, told a supervisor at software and mailroom supplier Pitney Bowes that, 'I'm a joker and I'm gonna load my guns and blow everybody up,' and that he wanted to see the supervisor's 'brain splatter on the floor.'

The threats were made multiple times in separate phone calls this week, and investigators who searched the 28-year-old's apartment this morning found several thousand rounds of ammunition and about two dozen semi-automatic rifles and pistols.

The arsenal of weapons included one assault rifle, two shotguns, nine handguns and three rifles, according to the search warrant.

Prescott is receiving a psychiatric evaluation at a hospital and charges are still pending.

Can't seem to post the stories link.

Christ, that poor woman. Hopefully she pulls through.

I just read that the same woman (who had a miscarriage, lost her 6 year old daughter, and is currently fighting to stay alive) hasn't even been told that her 6 year old died. She's been in and out of consciousness it seems and with all the other trauma she's physically and emotionally dealing with, I guess they decided now is not the time to break the bad news to her. That poor woman. =\
