Blatant double-posting again for this thread.

Combined LTD total for RE5: 644381
Combined first week total for RE6: 672411

Amazing numbers for RE6, Vita back to sub 10k numbers, also Ys, Earth Defense Force and Nubunaga dropped quite hard.

Xbox outsells Wii, heh.
WiiU official preorders are pretty much a death sentence for Wii in Japan, wonder if they'll stop Wii production this year.

schuelma

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
Lost in the Resident Evil sales, that has to be somewhere near the lowest Vita sales right?

RurouniZel

Asks questions so Ezalc doesn't have to
Yep, brand recognition still matters. Amazing that the 3DS still outsold the competition considering the software charts this week. o_O

And apparently people still have 360s in Japan? Shocking!

Predicted 666'666 for RE6, would have been pretty accurate if it were for first week and not 3 weeks :/

06./03. [3DS] Style Savvy: Trendsetters <ETC> (Nintendo) {2012.09.27} (¥4.800) - 34.288 / 100.196 (-48%)
That's pretty good as far as legs go, right?

Lost in the Resident Evil sales, that has to be somewhere near the lowest Vita sales right?

I think so.

So RE6 on PS3 almost doubles on the RE5 PS3 opening, but on the 360 sales have dropped to about 1/3 of RE5 360's opening week. It's going to be really, really hard for MS to have any worthwhile presence in Japan in the future imo. They were making some progress a few years back, but they've basically flushed it all away. I really don't envision the next MS console even being marketed much in Japan at all.

Will be interesting to see what legs RE6 has, though. Is the review score on 4Gamer from a review aggregate, from user reviews, or the 4Gamer review? (assuming 4Gamer does reviews)

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.

It will most likely have horrible legs, but it doesn't matter at this point.

umm what happened to the 2 Vita titles that were in the Top 10 last week lol

one of them dropped from an opening of 42000 to under 5000

3DS LL YTD: 692.038
Vita YTD: 562.133

And the gap gets bigger and bigger and bigger. At least it scrapped through to a million this week.

11./15. [3DS] Tousouchuu: Shijou Saikyou no Hunter-Tachi Kara Nigekire! <ACT> (Bandai Namco Games) {2012.07.05} (¥5.040) - 11.385 / 171.912 (+26%)

I will never understand.

I'm actually curious now, can someone post a comparison of major multiplatform PS360 games which had simultaneous releases in the last 4-5 years? Major being say... games where it sold over 200k on at least one platform. Thanks. :)

They are user reviews. I dont think they mean that much. RE6 for Xbox 360 is currently at 10 out of 100 in review score for example.

Great performances for RE6, good bump for PS3 with the new model and good result for WE13.
I knew that PS3 were starting a very good period

Strong 3DS sales, btw

i don't think i've ever seen a game with a "score" of 10 charting before! is this like those amazon.jp troll reviews?

So RE6 on PS3 almost doubles on the RE5 PS3 opening, but on the 360 sales have dropped to about 1/3 of RE5 360's opening week. It's going to be really, really hard for MS to have any worthwhile presence in Japan in the future imo. They were making some progress a few years back, but they've basically flushed it all away. I really don't envision the next MS console even being marketed much in Japan at all.

Will MS ever invest in an actual Japanese gaming studio? Because a regular influx of Japanese games is the only thing that can ever reverse their fortunes.

Wow at RE6. And to think, all this time we thought it was Japanese gamers enamored with the old tank controls.

Lost in the Resident Evil sales, that has to be somewhere near the lowest Vita sales right?

A quick check of garaph reveals it's close to it, yeah. Here are the lower numbers

Media Create:
6,340
6,347
6,675
7,551

Famitsu:
5,849
5,879
6,089
6,413

All of them were in May, though Famitsu had the Vita at 8.1k (or there abouts) for a couple of weeks in mid-April.

Don't see a reason why they would exhaust the same level of effort into Japan going forward as they did this generation. They worked hard to secure japanese support this gen and with their sales success WW over previous gen, they're guaranteed Japanese support on western audience games.

Next gen their goal should be focus on keeping the US in control while making more headway into mainland Europe.

If at the beginning of this gen it would be clear that western devs would be dominating the scene MS likely wouldn't have invested the time and money they did into Japan to secure developer support. However, they went with the safe bet to secure support.

Were they really making all that much progress? They paid for a ton of exclusive JRPGs and it didn't seem to help all that much at all.

I think MS feels they would always be second or third fiddle in Japan no matter how much they spend so therefore it's not worth the investment. And personally, I think their assessment is probably correct. Sony and Nintendo would both have to completely implode in order for Durango to have any chance to truly succeed there.

Does anyone have a plan for Durango that would have a realistic, actual chance for success in Japan?

Speaking of investing in Japanese studios, whatever happened to Crimson Dragon? A few months back it was delayed a week before it was due to be released on XBLA. The developers said it was not a development issue, but a business decision, and that more details would be announced later. And we've heard nothing. Months have gone by, not a word, and MS wasn't even at TGS this year. Canned?

Well, since Operation ShitCity sold pretty damn well too I can't say I'm surprised by those RE6 numbers. Still very impressive though.
