Just putting it into the game does affect the economy. There is now an alternative where you can spend money to save time. You can play FFVI without ever using Vanish+Doom but that broken mechanic is still there and it's always in the back of your mind as you're playing.

But I was mostly just laughing at the spin because it's so bad.
