Retro making Tropical Freeze is not bad, but in a time when Wii U needs something more than "we got sequels of Wii games in HD" to get more people interested, announcing TF was probably not the best move.
Definitely my sentiment. It's not that I don't want new games in these franchises, but they're clearly using the same assets and engine for a lot of these games, and it's getting eerie.
-
Mario 3D World is a direct sequel to
Mario 3D Land, a 3DS game.
- The new
Kirby 3DS game is clearly using as much from
Kirby's Return to Dreamland game as much as possible.
-
Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze is a direct sequel to
DKC Returns.
-
NSMBU was directly using
NSMBWii stuff.
-
Mario Kart 8 is clearly using assets, animations and ideas from
Mario Kart 7.
- Heck,
Smash Bros is coming to Wii U and 3DS at the same time!
It feels like Nintendo cheaping out and making direct sequels instead of making new and unique IP that use their new controller to the fullest.
