See that is the problem. Retro lost alot of its key talent because Nintendo does get pushy and say you are doing this. Retro for the longest time dreamed of its own projects.
Maybe they have forced out enough of the old Retro to get them to be content with Donkey Kong but that just means we as gamers lose.
Well, I hope those guys are happy at their studio making critically-middling software. I think we all know who owns the soul of Retro Studios, and it's not found in Austin, TX. They have some serious talent, but I can't help but feel their dedication to quality has more to do with Nintendo's own standards and allowance of long development times than anything else.
