I wish I had your optimism. Mine's been slowly going down the drain more and more politicians keep saying this will happen and that a 2nd referendum isn't happening.

Jeremy Hunt set out his stall for leadership built on the idea of a 2nd referendum after negotiations finish. Who knows, we might see people like Hunt and Fallon sharing a platform on this lol. I'd say stranger things have happened but I'm not sure if they have.

George will. He seems to be in a complete state of 'I told you so' and is utterly shameful in talking the economy down at every opportunity. The sooner he is replaced, the better. He really isn't helping matters - as near impossible the situation is, a cautious but positive front still needs to be clear from a chancellor, without sounding in denial. He just sounds like a bad loser at the moment. Not that I can suggest any obvious or viable alternative unfortunately, what a mess.

It sounds insane...they're just going to watch everything crumble. I'm really starting to believe England is finished.

Cross posting:

If you want Britain to remain in the EU, don't direct your anger at leave voters in general. Direct your anger at the people in power who lied to them and promised them stuff they frankly never intended of delivering. Many of which, namely Boris and Gove most likely didn't actually want us to leave and were just using this as an opportunity to increase their own power within the Tory party. Leave voters know something is wrong, many of them have been screwed over by austerity, but then were told that it's the EU that is causing these issues. A message reinforced by the media and politicians, who have exploited voters through pure lies. Present that message now it has become increasingly clear.

People want their world view reinforced rather than challenged. The majority will tend to dig their heels in more. That applies to both sides of the argument. It's not that folk will be maliciously unreasonable, more a case of cognitive dissonance kicking in.

Yup. The reason we are in this mess is because the high and mighty brandished words like racist and xenophobic and then smeared political correctness in slightly less well-educated peoples face. It's not their fault that the educational system failed them. Working as barman I once called a bloke racist after he called Sikhs, Muslims, and Hindus all the same and that they were all terrorists. He exploded in a fit of rage, he said things like if a dog gives birth in a stable is the baby a horse or a pup? He went so far as to say he would slit every one of the so-and-so bastard throats if it meant our children will grow up without fear of being blown up. He ended his rant with "but I'm no racist"
It blows my mind that people like this exist but the man was in ex-forces and overall if it wasn't for this unintelligible bigotry I'd say he was a nice guy. But he was not born with this attitude and he cannot be blamed for it being ingrained in him.

"He's a really nice guy... except when he's not."

We're living in a time where people can have access to more information than ever before in history (and more disinformation, granted) and can meet people from all walks of life nearly anywhere in the world. I don't think there are a ton of genuinely good excuses for being that level of ignorant any more.

The man you're describing has chosen to believe the worst about a very sizeable portion of people on this planet. That says something about him, don't you think? His reasons and opinions are his own and he's welcome to have them, but that doesn't stop him from being an ignorant shitbag, nor being called out on it.

I won't deny that there is an (interesting and worrying) class/education/age divide in the voting, nor will I disagree that a lot of Remain voters (myself included) are wagging fingers and venting on Leave voters a little unfairly. But it's hard to deny that immigration (along with the - yes - xenophobic subtext that a portion of Leave voters have attached to that) wasn't a key issue. I'd go so far as to say that I think it's clear that the said portion was in fact quite sizeable, rather than a small bunch of bad apples.

Yeah, strange things have happened but this is a very very different beast to anything we've had to deal with for a long time. :(

So frustrating man, really.

In support of you Scots, I'm drinking a bottle of a Scotch Ale with notes of toasted shortbread. It's good stuff.

I despise Hunt, yet I'm thinking about paying to be a Tory and vote him in on that alone. Then it's a backup plan in case there's not a GE and we can't get Lib Dems in to try and block a vote on it alongside the SNP and other individual MPs.

To complete the analogy, we'd need all the moderator to resigns or face the equivalent of a non confidence vote.

First I hear of Eton Mess, but my mom used to make strawberry mousse with meringue and cups of those tiny wild strawberries from our fields.

The first casualty... hope not for long. His heart was in the right place.

Yeah sad loss, but alas I'm sure he will learn the error of his ways. It's quite disturbing linking to such a horrific act carried out on 16m poor unwilling individuals, I nearly choked on my popcorn, could have been nasty.

wow. i never thought I'd ever see someone post a porn link and think it's fine

He didn't post enough warnings. He should have hidden it better. Like come on...

I never actually saw the Boris speech before. Bizarre watching the news juxtaposed with that sort of content. Wow.

Just got to give a big "LMFAO" at Farage's speech today.

He says something like "the reason the people voted the way they did....then goes on about deception"

No Nigel, people voted the way they did becauae YOU deceived them.

As a side note....the way he speaks, and gloats about how he was right all along. Really reminds me of David Icke.

I was hoping that would good thing that could come out of all this was him disapppearing after the whole NHS money issue...yet he seems content to keep going. His ego has inflated and he seems to be in this for personal glory.

So Visa and Vodafone are already floating plans to leave and move jobs and as I understand it as soon as Article 50 is invoked every major bank will need to tell shareholders what their relocation plan is if the UK does not agree an acceptable trade deal in 2 years.

Article 50 is a bomb waiting to go off and the UK can't mitigate it because the EU have ruled out pre-negotiating.

He's a poisonous, pompous, prejudiced man and an enormous self promoter.

We've all known this for a long time, but this hollow victory has really sent him stratospheric.

It's terrible to say, but I want to live in the timeline where his light aircraft crash was more... lethal.

I was just thinking before you linked that, I hadn't had a drink in 5 years, thought maybe it was time for a nice bottle of Highland Park... I mean wtf are you a mindreader?

All you require is to know your shit, and you would be thinking of it.

If Scottish Independence is a thing, can I emigrate?

There was a rally in Oxford too today. I think once these get more momentum, it could be interesting.

Ale gives me the 'I'm gonna vomit' feel the moment it makes contact with my mouth.

Then again, I'm more of a spirit/cider person. Give me a Rekorderlig, yo.

Now is the time for Unity! Trust me, we'd comprimise on this. Fruity!

Buy this. GOAT.

Thinking about something more smokey as that's her style. I may end up with an American one called Brimstone. See how much smoke she can handle.

I love me a whiskey but want to try a spirit which is a little 'fruity'.

I bought a Courvoisier recently but cannot seem to taste much of anything but alcohol.
