So, we have, yet again, reached E3. The Mekka of video gaming lies before us, and with all talk about next generation it sure ain't gonna be a slow show.
With everything from Nintendo showing the final form of Wii U to Microsoft bombastically demonstrating Hal... I mean Kinect games, there's something for everyone.

This thread I hope can be of good use to everyone that follows E3. Regardless if you view the show in the comfort of your livingroom sofa or if you are actually there
at Los Angeles Convention Center, I have gathered some useful links and information in this thread. Some of it you may know, some of it you may not.
Anyhow, I wish everyone a nice E3 and a good show.

These are the questions I best think are suitable for NeoGAF, for both enthusiasts and attendees on a more general level.
The official FAQ is of course readily available as well here: http://www.e3expo.com/show-info/1103/frequently-asked-questions/

If you want anything added to the FAQ, just gimme a shout.

1. What exactly is E3?

E3 is the world's most prominent trade show for computer and video games and related products.
The show houses opportunity for game developers to show their latest projects, for retailers and distributors
to get together and for the press to get the biggest scoops. In 2011, the show saw representatives from over
106 countries and 46,800 video game industry professionals, investor analysts, and retailers attended E3.
Around 4,500 media professionals, both international and domestic, attended, so media coverage is very strong.

The most exciting by far at E3 are the respective press conferences of the industry's top tier companies.
Electronic Arts, Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony and Ubisoft each year host large briefings where they show new games and hardware.
It's here where new hardware, such as Wii U, is announced.

2. Is the show open to the public?

Nope, the show is not open to the general public. It's intended only for professionals from the industry.
Loopholes exist though and while often problematic, non-professionals are known to have entered.
But industry qualification is needed to gain access to E3, and those that cannot document their current professional
affiliation to the industry are not qualified. Though if you haven't got business at the show, you really shouldn't be there.
And besides, most of it is broadcasted (often live) by several news outlets, so it's hard to miss anyway.

Click here to view Industry Requirements.

3. When and where does E3 take place?

E3 2012, the actual expo, is scheduled to take place June 5-7, at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Press conferences of Electronic Arts, Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony and Ubisoft happen some days prior.
The Los Angeles Convention Center is located at the intersection of the Santa Monica and Harbor Freeways.

4. I have a ticket for E3, when and where can I register?

Registration is located in the South Hall Lobby of the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Beginning 1:00 PM local time on the 3rd of June, attendees/media can register. Full registration hours on-site below:

5231.png

For questions about your registration, contact the E3 Registration Customer Service team at 877-216-6263.
For calls outside the U.S. dial 708-486-0718.

5. What are the exhibit floor hours?

The exhibit floors (South Hall and West Hall) will be open:

5241.png

Same goes for Meeting Rooms, but they open one hour earlier on Wednesday and Thursday.

5. Who is exhibiting at E3?

Software and hardware developers, news outlets, financial agencies, government bodies and many more exhibit at E3. The focus is on software and hardware developers though, where Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony are the main attractions.

The exhibitor list is available in two versions:

Static version: http://e312.mapyourshow.com/5_0/exhibitor_results.cfm?type=alpha&alpha=@
Interactive version: http://www.mapyourshow.com/shows/index.cfm?Show_ID=E312

6. Does the Los Angeles Convention Center feature a parking lot?

Yes, it does. The LACC has 5500 parking spaces. The parking fee is $12 and does not include in and out privileges.
Should the parking lot be full, there are plenty of other parking lots nearby.

7. Is there any restaurant/café at the Los Angeles Convention Center?

The LACC has an excellent Food and Beverage Services Department by Aramark. I'm not sure on what menu will be available this year,
but you can browse the full menu offered here: http://www.lacclink.com/lacclink/documents/foodservices/CateringMenu.pdf

Otherwise, Los Angeles features many restaurants to choose from. And with the variety of food, it'd be a shame if you didn't at least try one restaurant.
Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau has created an excellent guide of dining places. The link goes to restaurants in the Downtown area (closest to LACC):
http://www.discoverlosangeles.com/b...wn%2FLA+Metro&searchtype=visitor&menu=visitor

8. What facilities are available for media on-site at E3 2012?

The E3 2012 Media Center, in Petree Hall (concourse level), offers convenient support for journalists covering the show free of charge. It features a fully equipped, large working newsroom including:

A "news wall" featuring important exhibitor news and information
High-speed Internet access and free wireless
Lockers
Mac and PC computers
Media-only hospitality suite
Phones
Photocopy machine
Standard office equipment

9. Is there any useful app to download regarding E3?

There are two apps available, the Attendee E3 Meeting Application Powered by Game Connection and
the 2012 Official E3 App for smartphones.

Attende E3 Meeting Application

This application available only for attendees is a central site from where you can manage your entire schedule at E3.
Add videos, demos, pictures and games to your profile, book meetings etc.

Available here: http://www.e3meetingapp.com/

The 2012 Official E3 App

An application for smartphones so you can stay up to date on all things E3 before, during and after the event.

For iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch users, visit iTunes to download the app: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/e3-2012/id521800192?mt=8
For other web-enables phones, the app is available here: http://m.core-apps.com/E32012

Below is a list of the more notable exhibitors. I shall mention that this is a not full list of exhibitors, as I have taken the liberty to exclude some (smaller studios and non-gaming companies). Known games (either as confirmed by the publisher itself or through news outlets, can also mean games that have known release dates) and speculated (rumored/speculated) games are supplied for each exhibitor. Some are left blank either because I don't know about any rumored/speculated games from that exhibitor or because it is not a game developer.

The full list of exhibitors, as I've linked before, is available here: http://e312.mapyourshow.com/5_0/exhibitor_results.cfm?type=alpha&alpha=@

For the benefit of journalists, I have supplied links to press/news sites of each individual exhibitor. Some are password protected, some are open. I will provide some temporary credentials for Nintendo (that will be in next segment though), but hopefully you've already got login info for most of these. Also, most of the assets that will be released will be available through services such as Gamespress and Virtual Press Office etc.

During E3, we will be looking at tons of information from various sources. As there is a myriad of gaming websites, I will only link to the most notable (that are also known to attend E3 and report explicitly from the show). General media sites are also linked as many of them cover E3 as well.

Though prior to the list, I would like to take a moment to once again link to some press sites, this time to those of the big five (EA, Microsoft, Nintendo, Ubisoft and Sony). While mainly for journalists, some of these sites can be useful if you want to create an official thread for a certain game.

Microsoft

Microsoft provides press material in a very nice way. It's readily available for anyone as there is no password protection (except for some press releases),
and you can find anything from game covers in PSD format to logo files in vector format (EPS/AI mostly).

Xbox Press Center: http://press.xbox360.com/

As heard on the name, deals with everything Xbox. Not so much event related, but there are some photos
and assets from certain presentations. No password needed.

Microsoft's Games Press: http://microsoft.gamespress.com/

Used by Microsoft UK mainly, but features assets for several regions. Much like Xbox Press Center, but with much more material.
Press releases are for some reason password protected, but everything else you can download freely.

Microsoft News Center: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/news/

All things Microsoft! Here you can download assets not only for Xbox but for all of Microsoft.
Event photos (from E3), logos, press releases, product shots, video and much more.
No password needed.

Nintendo

The hub we will be looking at during E3 is Nintendo of America's media site: http://press.nintendo.com/loginSplash.jsp

While it is password protected, there is a guest pass available under the following:

Username: guest
Password: nintendo

There also a press kit for E3 2012, it's not password protected (following the link below):

http://media.nintendo.com/pressroom/E32012/index.html

Going through the main hub however, you can login to the press kit under the following:

Username: nintendo
Password: e32012

http://press.nintendo.com/E32012

I will update the above once more details are made available. If you need a permanent login,
you can contact Golin Harris associate Deanna Talamantez at 213-438-8742 or dtalamantez@golinharris.com.
Video is also available at http://www.thenewsmarket.com/Nintendo.

Sony

Sony's press sites are password protected, though there appears to be a generic login available for one of them.
I'm unsure if I can share it however as it is not labeled guest/temporary, but I will look into it.

PlayStation Press Center: http://presscenter.playstation.com/

This is Sony Computer Entertainment America's press site.
You can download artwork, logos, press releases, product packshots etc.

Sony PressVault: http://www.sceuk-press.net/

This is Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's press site. Operates as the one for SCEA, but I do not think there is any guest pass for this site.
I haven't heard of one anyhow, but if anyone knows please tell.

General press releases are available here: http://us.playstation.com/corporate/about/press-release/

Electronic Arts

EA has two press sites, one for North America and one for Europe (well, UK to be specific).

EA NA Press Site: http://www.info.ea.com/

Features press releases, product packshots and screenshots mainly. Mostly supplied in JPEG format,
but videos are available in high quality (many in 1080p format). No password needed for download.

EA EU Press Site: http://ea.gamespress.com/

Similar to the NA site, but features files in other formats than JPEG. Password is needed for download though.
If you need express access, contact Owen Crane contactUKPR@ea.com. Otherwise, you can simply register on the site,
but it's for UK media only.

Ubisoft

Ubisoft Press Extranet: http://pressextranet.ubisoft.com/US/US/default.aspx

To gain full access to this site, you will need a login. However, all relevant sections for E3 are available without a password.
"Events", "Press Releases", "About Ubisoft" and "Contact Ubisoft" you can browse and download from freely.
E3 2012 material will be available under Events.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you want even more material to choose from, I recommend you register an account on Games Press: http://gamespress.com/

This site has more than 45,000 registered users from all areas of the gaming industry, including fan sites.
Assets are provided directly by developers and publishers, and you can find just about anything here.

Mainly it's press releases, artwork and release dates. Every year there is an E3 section with press kits from most companies.
There are several accounts to choose from, there is a free account (marked as "lite") where you have access to most files,
but some contain watermarks and some are indexed in ways that prevent you from downloading them.

Games Press Pro gives access to all files without watermark. For (freelance) journalists this is obviously the best choice.
$8.50/£5.00 gives you access to download 100 images (items) without watermarks.
There's also Games Press Elite (costs £120 a month) which gives even more power, but that's irrelevant in relation to E3.

One site that can also be very useful during E3 is Business Wire: http://www.businesswire.com
If you need stock or editorial images, image agency Getty Images is an excellent choice: www.gettyimages.com/

This requires no password and many companies, Nintendo for example, use this service for press releases. Easy to navigate and the search function is great.

But now that we are done with that, let's get to the list of news sources:

Gaming/tech media

General media

All of these attended E3 last year, so there should be news about the event coming.

If you have suggestions on sites to add to the list, just post as a reply and I will see what I can do.

For Valve, Counter-Strike GO will be playable at Sony and Microsoft's booths. Might want to add that. Also, for Square, Final Fantasy Type-0 should probably be under speculated.

Amazing thread, though!

God, I had no idea EA's conference looked so sparse on content til I seen it there =/
Suddenly became the conference I'm least interested in =/

I'll certainly be playing drinking games through the conferences though. For microsoft I'll take a drink every time they mention Kinect, I'd be drunk about an hour in then though.
Need to think of other buzzwords for the other 4 conferences :lol

I was going to ask the same thing, Neogaf going down on random days, randomly, is it going to survive the rush of E3?

We forgot to turn off bin logging and ran out of hard disk space on one of the partitions.

That's fixed now so this particular error shouldn't happen again.

What are the expectations for E3 performance, will the servers handle the load? Will OT be closed again? If GAF does go down, can we get some clearer communication about whats going on, a quick tweet wouldn't hurt.

Great, great thread Rosti. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, given your work in the Wii U ST.

Glad to see the 500 error is apparently fixed, so hopefully this place holds up under the overwhelming E3 traffic.

Well, our server capacity is fine to handle E3. The question is if one of the other systems blow up.

As for communication, I don't really have the ability to make that call, but I can assure you we'll have several people on hand working to fix things the instant they happen.

Good to hear, thanks for the response.

Is there a Neogaf IRC server or anything?
You know, incase the site melts and I need somewhere to vent about how amazing/lame something is, lol.

Sony being at 2AM UK time is so shit.

At least it is a bank holiday for us though across those two days.

But it's during a holiday. You saying you can't handle late nights? :p
Yeah, but it's still too late to watch a conferenece that will probably start an hour late anyway.

Why no love for us Europeans, Sony. :(

Awesome OP, btw. All the important info in one place. Cheers

Going to miss all the conferences but Nintendo's :( I have an exam on the fifth...

And this is why this thread is actually perfect for you :)
Or maybe you will be really lucky and we'll have a spoiler-free thread with links to the conferences since they will be recorded

Exactly. It's at least 2 hours long and they have the worst presentation skills out of all 3.

They're annoying because they lead you on with something which sounds good and then it turns out to be something terrible followed by a montage. I wonder how many montages they'll have this year?

Made another image for the non-conference events. Will fill in the Konami time when we get one :p

Also Rösti, you have some incorrect references to PST/EST in the GTTV section. Should be updated to PT/ET.

Stop It

Perfectly able to grasp the inherent value of the fishing game.
Great OP, nice to see.

Anyway, I've just realised that the Jubilee bank holidays here means that for the main conferences at least, I'm off work, so I'll be able to watch all of them this year live, yey!

Hehe yeah but it's not as fun when it's not live :)

Crazy excited for this year's E3, especially because it will be my first E3 on GAF.

Also I love the OP, it makes tuning in for the press conferences so much easier knowing the times and where to watch.

Hard to get excited about this year's E3 but you even forgot to mention Dishonored :(

Edit: And Prey 2

lol
I try to update the list when I see mention of titles that should be in it. Thanks for mentioning.
