So today my internet was shut down via my isp. They autodirected my browser to a notice that i had been in violation of copyrighted material hard candy 4 cd1.avi and cd2.avi using bittorrent (they have a port number ip address and timestamp). My wireless is password protected and I live in a house with another long time friend who is a rooommate. The guy doesnt even own a computer/laptop/tablet. The only thing he has is an evo phone. He swears he didnt download anything. My computer wasnt even on at that timestamp. I have a utorrent client but it hasnt even been turned on since late 2010!

So I call the guys at copyrightsettlement.com who are mentioned in the notice after getting my internet turned back on through my isp and they say I need to pay $200 or they will sue me and then it will cost 1000 or more. This seems like extortion to me. I told them the facts and he didnt care just said he gets paid either way and it was my choice, that these cases always go their way etc etc.

Gaf i dont download porn, i pay for everything ip related even music. Im not paying these blackmailers but wtf can i do?

Same thing happened to me with Ygnition, the shittiest ISP ever. Roommate downloaded Pirates of the Caribbean, we got tagged.

I told them to fuck off, that I lived alone and didn't even know how to pirate. I also asked if having no password on my wireless was a problem.

Never heard from them again.

Either I made up lies about the Boston Bomber or I fell for someone else's crap. Either way, I have absolutely no credibility and you should never pay any attention to anything I say, no matter what the context. Perm me if I claim to be an insider
Is Hard Candy 4 the best in the series?

Hard Candy 2: The Revenge was a typical sequel riding the coattails of the original Hard Candy.

Hard Candy 3: Even Harder, tried to reboot with only a couple original cast member who were only bit characters in Hard Candy.

Hard Candy 4: The Reckoning. I don't even know anymore. New cast, kinda same premise, but just trading on the Hard Candy name at this point.

Instead of the hur dur "everybody watches porn" reactions, how about some actual advice to this guy?

Must be shitty to be accused of something you didn't do. It reminds me of the actions from the music copy right protection organization in my country. There have been numerous claims and evidence that they just harass people without valid reason, and basically extort money with fear tactics. When shit hit the fan, it became obvious that if you as a consumer said "fuck you", they backed off, and if it would come to a lawsuit, they'd lose.

Don't know if this is the same in the OP's situation. But don't automatically suspect you're lost and have to pay up "or else".

They are most likely a scam/extortion company that fancy-talked your ISP into cutting your Internet access. Clear the situation with your ISP and ignore them. This is the same type of scam as "hello, we would like to inform you your company logo is not protected, pay us $500 and we will add your logo to our registry".

Really? No legal firm, a simple website, and no physical address?

EDIT: You already got your Internet back? Then ignore the fuckers.

get a doctors note saying you lack imagination and need personal aids. that way when they hunt you down you can tell them to fuck off.

Assuming you are as squeaky clean as you say you are:

It is for the greater good that people in your situation fight back against extortion tactics like this. They are specifically targeting porn as a shame tactic to get people to pay up to avoid embarrassment. If they are using an unsound technique that is hitting innocent people, this this is extortion/blackmail in the worst sense. They are threatening to slander your name unless you pay them to keep quiet.

Of course, to fight back requires time/money, so it's a difficult route to go.

At the very least, you should lodge a complaint with [insert government oversight body here].

Pretty sure it's a scam based on googling.

Legal documents come through the snail mail, not e-mail.

They don't know your name and don't give it to them.

What's the acting like?

This sounds like when your IP gets blacklisted for spam when you are a legitimate company that sends out lots of emails. Pretty much impossible to get removed from it.

This is happening a lot these days.
If you really didn't do it, get a lawyer and fight it. They will probably sue you and ask for your hard drive, etc. so you better be clean.
