An interesting trend you will pick up is that Mr. Iwata at 77% / 81% actually represents one of the lowest CEO approval rates across the industry.

So, Iwata's approval rating actually went up.
Not surprising, all things considered. His plans that he has laid out are very solid and set a good tone for the future of the company.

Though, everyone else is down, which is odd.

Also, this probably deserves its own thread, just to shut down all the "Goodbye Iwata!" bullshit.

I would guess three factors:

1.) Some upset investors sold off and left.
2.) Some investors think Iwata is making a more serious effort now
3.) More investors are spreading around the blame instead of pinning it all on Iwata

Good to hear that his approval rating went up. I still think that he's a good leader for the company, even if he has made some mistakes (he wouldn't be the first)

I'm leaning toward 3 simply because Iwata is the only member who had their approval rating increase YOY.

I second this. I like that they're spreading the blame, it properly reflects the structure of a company instead of shitting upon one man.

Iwata's approval went up, Miyamoto's and Takeda's approval went down.

Last year, the Wii U had a rough launch and Nintendo posted some losses, but Iwata promised good times ahead.

This year, the Wii U Dreamcasted, Iwata managed to cook up a Plan B (short on details) on a cocktail napkin in January, and at the last minute they had a good E3.

I'm guessing there was some sympathy vote over Iwata's illness.

Really bro?

So everyone's approval rating went down except for Iwata's? Interesting.

I mean... barely. Most by a fraction of a percent.

Bah, got split bumped before I posted. I'm genuinely surprised his approval rating went up, I guess the investors feel more confident with him going forward

The ratings that went down like 0.3% definitely is. It's meaningless decline. Miyamoto's is the one that stands out, though.

Genyo Takeda and Tatsumi Kimishima also went down non-trivial amounts.

It's the bigger heads that took the brunt of the impact while the people who are on the board, but not really key decision drivers basically had no impact.

Basically Iwata went up while the other three took more blame.

This is more accurate to reality to be honest, Iwata alone isn't causing Nintendo's issues by any means and he's the biggest figure head in sounding like someone trying to fix them.

Yeah was pretty sure his approval rating would go up.

He deserves it as well, he's laid out a plan and is directing Nintendo towards that goal. I still believe most of the issues Nintendo has is because of how old the other board members are, and Iwata is trying to put in younger people as he's previously stated.

These guys will be running it until the day Nintendo implodes into a black hole. Everyone might as well just accept it

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
That approval figure of 777999 is amazing.
Good news as far as I'm concerned.

A legitimately interesting turn of events. I expected Iwata's rating to go down to the low 70s at the very least.

Edit: Kaoru Takemura retired? I don't know anything about her, but I wonder if her sudden departure means something.

Mrgrgr
What is this based on? Shareholder approval? But why is it coming from the gov't then?

Shareholders elect a public company's board of directors, who officially represent their interests.

The board then chooses positions like the CEO, who run the company on a day to day basis.

The CEO of a company however is also often on the board of directors.

Since these people represent investors, the government has some regulation over the process in order to protect investors, like mandating that a board exists and that they get elected annually.

Nnintendo has some pretty good shareholders, all things considered. They could have driven Nintendo down a very different - and possibly disatrous - path long ago, but I guess they opted to trust in the company's leadership instead.

Nintendo's future will be very interesting, indeed.

They know better than to downvote Iwata. He did program the fish in Balloon Fight, after all. Would you cross the guy who can make a fucking fish pop out of nowhere? I'd never take a shit sitting down...

Surprised Miyamoto's rating isn't down farther given his output/statements lately. Iwata has been making the best of the Wii U situation, well deserved.

Mrgrgr
Miyamoto needs to retire, thank you for all your great games!

His three or four new projects are a waste of money.

Honestly I don't see any problem with what he's doing now.

He's basically fostering new staff while letting their existing senior and upper-mid level staff take more prominent roles on the franchises they work on and define their future direction.

He's already handed the keys over on the things that matter most and is now working to train up those who haven't really had a chance.

Nintendo's investors are taking the long view. There's nothing a new president could do right now to change Nintendo's outlook. Their long term plan isn't awful anyways.
