New shooter from creators of Black revealed next week

The new shooter from the creators of Black, Bodycount, is exclusively revealed on the cover of the new issue of OXM - going out to subscribers now.

The game is being developed at Codemasters Guildford by a team headed by Stuart Black, who worked on the cult FPS that shares his name when at Criterion.

Several other key members of the Black team have joined him at Codemasters to work on Bodycount, which is a spectacular and frankly mental first-person shooter.

We can't say any more about it, save to say that if you like shooting guns in games you are going to really, really love it. Find out more in the issue itself: the mag's going out to subscribers today, and will be in newsagents on Thursday 11th March. Look out for the fancy cardboard wallet with the big hole in, our testament to the game's ridiculous levels of destruction.
Found the article in Google's cache, seems to have been taken down from the OXM UK site:

Codemasters has announced an "aggressive recruitment program" for its Guildford studio, and confirmed that the outfit is working on "an original action FPS".

The game is the brainchild of Stuart Black, co-creator and designer of EA Criterion's well-regarded 2006 shooter for PS2 and Xbox called, coincidentally, Black. It's for "leading console platforms".

According to Codemasters, the game entered full production 12 months ago and is an original IP using the company's impressive EGO engine, seen in racers like Race Driver: GRID and Colin McRae: DiRT as well as the recent Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising.

Black is the game's creative director, and is joined by executive producer Tom Gillo from Sony London and senior producer Andrew Wilson from Black Rock. The development team is currently 80 strong.

The Guildford studio opened in 2007 and is run by Adrian Bolton, also from EA Criterion, and has a remit to develop original action games. There are design, programming and art jobs available and Codemasters hopes to start building up a second team and get another game in production. More info at the company's careers site.

I don't remember ever asking for something like that. Black wasn't any good.

Call me when NOLF3 is announced OXM!

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
I expect monotinous shooting gallery gameplay that will earn a fanbase for its pretty visuals and big explosions and adrenalin rush gameplay, but will ultimately fall on deaf ears for people wanting something fresh.

Prove me wrong Black. Prove me wrong.

If only Black had maintained what it started out as in development, ala Burnout-style super-chaining combo-reward gun porn. If anything, this at least has the propensity to *look* good.

there better be more to this thing than "gun porn"

Black had great technology for the time, but nothing else.

I remember when IGN dubbed it the "everything killer"

Yeah, let's hope that there won't be long ass boring unskippable cut scenes this time, and some decent AI and controls.

I would love an fps where there is complete disregard for anything that isn't "shooting things." No cutscenes, no story, no reading text of any kind, no puzzles, no atmosphere, no feeble attempt at tension or immersion or wit. Just an endless amount of shooting. Something arcadey like Doom or Serious Sam, without the overbearing style... Or being arcadey.

BLACK was sort of like that, it still had cutscenes though.....

Unskippable, painfully-poor acted melodramatic cutscenes. And it took several shotgun blasts to the face to kill anybody.

Other than that, pretty decent game.

I bought Black a year or two ago used because I was reading a thread where it was getting much love. I was incredibly disappointed. Sound design was good though. So here's hoping the only people that carried over from Black to this were the sound engineers, and everyone else on the team has actually made a good game.

I'm down, I liked BLACK. If Black was gun porn, what will this be?

Man, that drawing is bullshit. How the hell is this guy expected to carry all his ammo, when he has so few pouches/pockets to store it in?

$150 for a head sketch, $400 for a full figure @ SDCC and his sketch card for the con was full. :lol
If you have a pouch fetish, why pay for anything but the best?

Liefeld is truly the Nomura of American design.

but Nomura is actually a fairly proficient character designer/artist, tastes in style aside. His characters are actually well-drawn and proportionate.

What bugs me most about Liefield isn't his absolutely horrid anatomy, tiny noses, pointed feet, baby teeth, or penguin hands- it's the way he draws guns. Most of them look like segmented towel-racks from a 1970's B-movie sci-fi bathroom.

... but about Bodycount... yeah... wasn't a huge fan of BLACK. I'll likely pass on this unless the praise is there.

For all of the Liefeld hate, i would put him alongside Jim Lee and Macfarlane as the most influential comic book artists of the 90s.
