It took some years of work for this one but from now on (god willing) there will be an update every January.

The file I had shared in 2010 surely looks like work from amateur now that I saw it again.

Besides everything else I think I updated rankings manually back then and it's inevitable there would be many errors.

Thanks Chris! Looking at the GBC LTD starting in Oct 2000 (at 8.1m) did you by chance come across a famitsu revised LTD? (Hopefully so, I'd think the GBC would follow the same formula as N64 [x1.3, x1.6 etc.] which might fit perfectly in that spot)

While I no longer participate in sales discussion/sales-gaf, the culmination of years of work into collecting and collating data is always a work of passion when it's not your job.

I respect the dedication and thank you for the effort, Chris.

The fact that something like this can exist shows how powerful public dissemination of sales data can be for consumers interested in products they're passionate about. A real pity it never caught on anywhere else.

The big problem and effort wasn't and isn't collecting data from recent years. Most of them can be found easily. I don't need anymore more than one hour per week to compile weekly sales.

There are numerous public data from last decade(s) which weren't saved from anyone and are lost. Even at this version of the database, with all the cuts I have done, it's impossible to find most of the numbers at internet.

Thank you for the admirable job, Chris.
Will download the thing after work *wink*

Yeah, I wish companies would be more open to share (old) shipment data.

Much appreciated, Chris. I won't have the opportunity to dig into it until I get home, but know that you fill the void Garaph left in my heart.

Have you ever considered porting it to a publicly viewable Google Document? It might be easier to maintain, archive and share, and even allows for some trusted collaborators if you ever needed a break.

There aren't collaborators and much more trusted collaborators. From the old gaffers who started the job of collecting and archiving numbers we have remained active very few and it's been many years since I saw someone new willing to join the team. Some started but gave up almost immediately.

I hope there will be some interest again with all the work that has been done since you don't have to start from 0 to go to 100 like then, but from 95.

Really amazing work Chris. It's great evidence for the lazy arguments of "this series never sells in Japan" etc. But my only criticism is the "international" names you use for some of the games. Tomodachi Collection and Pokemon Stadium for example. It sort of disrupts the flow of the series when you eliminate the Japanese names which chronologically match.

Damn, this is the good stuff, anything you would ever want to know.

I decided to look at the modern Sonic franchise:

[DCT] Sonic Adventure <ACT> (Sega) {1998.12.23} (¥5,800) - 176,614 / 438,707

A whopping 158 weeks on chart

Fascinating, no Sonic game has come close since in Japan.

The closest is

[GBA] Sonic Advance <ACT> (Sega) {2001.12.20} (¥5,800) - 38,454 / 204,542

Which had 54 weeks on chart on the chart of a far more lively system.

Shouldn't the 280k for the first PSX month be four weeks instead of five? Fifth week includes the first day of '95.

Famitsu ends the year at the first day of '95 and apparently it's included in December too.

Everything is in Japanese too so going with the international names looks the normal.

One thing I intend to add in the future is digital estimates from Famitsu. They are not very reliable yet but it's better than nothing.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Been waiting for this for quite a while, fantastic job Chris.

Don't know if already someone noticed or Chris1964 has already fixed, but I noticed there is a Xbox game with first week release more than LTD

[XBX] MotoGP 2 (Microsoft Game Studios) {2003.07.17} 1.699 / 654

I don't know how this error occured, I'll check it.

edit: First week is outside top 30 coming grom garaph and it's apparently wrong. LTD is correct.

Thanks for checking, I'll fix too :)
