So how about that heatwave this week in California?

Yeah, I'm near Petaluma, and the weather was ridiculous this weekend. I posted this in the GiantBomb thread, but our freaking AC went out Saturday morning, so for most of the day, the temperature INSIDE the house was hovering near 90 degrees. It was freaking miserable.

The only saving grace is that about 6 months ago, my mom and I found some window unit AC's, brand new, for $20 at a discount place near us. We grabbed two of them, thinking maybe we could use them instead of the central AC (we had noticed it working not as well at the tail end of the last summer) when only one or two people were home. Those things saved our asses, however, I blew up our circular saw two cuts in when I was cutting the wood for the stands I was making, which meant I had to hand cut the rest of the wood we needed. Again, fucking miserable.

Seeing the sidewalks near my work buckle because of the heat was interesting though!

We ended up going out to Bodega on Sunday to meet with some friends, and the traffic in and out was nuts. I had heard they closed some of the beaches due to insufficient parking, and I wouldn't be surprised, there were TONS of people (both for father's day, and I assume the heat).

I think that coming from New England, 95-100 or so Fahrenheit with a dry heat felt surprisingly fine to me when I was out west, but 115-120 is absolutely insane. Don't want to know what that feels like ever.

It's 88F with 60% humidity today and I was sweating so much on a quick walk to the store....

Bought a 20in fan at Home Depot and it's been worth it these last few days. Hella airflow combined with inside temp of 87 makes it more tolerable to be inside. Turn on the ac every now and then to cool the room down but temps go right back up after an hour or so. Living in Oroville, CA for those wondering so it's max heat at about 105-109 for the next week then we cool down to a chill 95-99

It's hilarious in cities like S.F. or down south in HB and San Diego there aren't many with central ac. If you hit like Walmart or Target basically all of the fans are sold out during these heatwaves. People usually never even have a use for a fan like this so people buy them all like it's the apocalypse.

folks who still deny Climate Change can fuck right off.
Will get 35°C this week in Germany and we had about 40°C last year breaking records.
Everything above body temperature is an absolute nightmare.
Still remember getting school free when temperatures climbed to 28°C when I was a kid and now its 7 degrees hotter a month earlier.

Went to the casino yesterday for the AC. Thankfully it's been cooling off at night.

Oh and the power went out in my neighborhood last night for at least 3 hours. That was fun.

I experienced a dry thunderstorm in my area at 12:00-1:00am today, really bizarre experience. It's 83 degrees right now with 42% humidity and it's annoying(I have no ac).

I'm fucking dying. My poor cats are miserable. My bedroom doesn't have any windows so it's just 100 degrees in there day and night.

115 Tomorrow in Kern County.

Gonna have to cancel our usual Pokémon Go park walks to stay inside and not die.

I always hate these heatwaves as you hear about a lot of people working outside and elderly, etc. who end up in the hospital.

Lifelong Sacramento-area guy here. This isn't the worst we've ever had (I always think back to the summer of 2008, when even in Placerville it hit 112 for almost two full weeks) but I think it really hurts that it just happened so fast. We had a week or two of temperatures reaching the mid-90s, then a wonderful week of 70s, then BAM, nearly 110 every day.

Yeah, surviving this heat without AC is difficult. But being at work most of the day, it's actually too cold.
Oh, but nights are always terrible. I don't know what to do about that.

was so fucking hot yesterday and last night, and then we got a freak midnight rain shower on top of that, and no signs of any rain or water in the morning... was very strange. Also pretty much no AC anywhere in the Bay area.

And here I was bemoaning that it was going to hit the mid 90s in the next few days.

I am so, so sorry.
Viva San Diego!

I've been in 40 degrees Celsius heat once or twice and it's insufferable. 47... Fucking hell. A real worry for massive fires like Portugal.

Of course so long as there enough snow in winter to form a snowball then everything is a-ok...

It's gonna be around 110 for the next few days and I'm helping a friend build a shed for two of those days. Fuck.
