I hope MGS4 can stay strong in the charts for a while. I really hope it's not a super heavy frontloaded sales game.

I wonder how long MGS4 will continue to sell strong.

Where is English of the Dead on the top 10? I am still waiting for my copy, but it is out, right?

So next week MGS4 will beat out Dragon QUest Swords as the best selling 3rd party console title this gen. Impressive.

Bizarre that MGS managed to do what bigger PS2 hits couldn't.
Those bigger hits may have had much wider fanbases, but said fanbases weren't as dedicated as MGS fanboys. That said, expect a price collapse once the used game market is flooded with second hand copies.

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
MGS4 will be the best selling third party title of the generation in Japan by next week.

You mean on the PS3 or in general? If it's the latter... well, that's surprising.
It's already outsold every PS3 title released so far so definitely the latter.

a lame (to RPG fans) budget spinoff vs. a expensive, mainline game...

not exactly comparable... let's see a 3rd party effort on Wii with the budget and development time frame of MGS4... it could make a company very, very rich...

Wii Fit VS Monster Hunter, the saga continues.

It really is a fascinating battle. I expect Wii Fit to win in the end, but I never thought MH would have the legs its displayed, so who knows

Excellent sales for MGS4. The real test comes next week though.

Indeed. Let's see if it can avoid the massive drop/lack of legs that has happened to every other big PS3 release.

No need to get defensive about it, they were just stating a fact. Kind of puts the horrible 3rd party numbers in Japan into perspective tbh.

Wants the largest console games publisher to avoid Nintendo's platforms.

I honestly don't expect it to have very long legs. By all accounts, MGS4 is about 20 hours long and the kind of games that have had monstrous legs have tended to be either Mario games or games that are meant to be played 'forever'.

MGS4 has pretty good replayability, plus there's MGO. Don't know how much a factor online multiplayer will be in Japan, though.

Well to be fair, most major non-PS3 releases share the same fate, Monster Hunter Portable games aside.

Well this might be true, but if there is one thing about MGS fans, they are definitely... let's say... uh... devoted. :p

True. Though the Nintendo franchises seem to be somewhat of an exception.

Speaking strictly of third party games here. Nintendo franchises have always appeared to have slightly more legs in comparison.

You can do it, Shiren! Break 100k!

It dropped more than I was hoping. I think it will break it, but we probably won't know it for a while.

I think it's already sold more than Chocobo's Labyrinth of Time though (or at least is very close). This has to be doing about at what Sega expected.

Well MGS4 does come with MGO, so it's not like you are completely done with the game after those 20 hours in single player. But even if MGS4 has horrible legs, it will still reach 600k after a 465k debut. If MGS4's first week ends up being 77% of its LTD, it will break 600k. If the first week ends up being 65% of the eventual LTD it will break 700k. While I'm sure Konami would ideally want to hit 900k-1M in Japan, they really can't be upset with having the best selling PS3 game of all time by 50-75%.

My theory is that for it to have long legs, it needs to be the kind of game that people are disinclined to sell once they're done with it. Square Enix games tend to be really bad for this (see Crisis Core). I still think that MGS4 isn't that kind of game.

I may be underestimating the MGS fanbase.

Great start for MGS4. The next few weeks will be interesting.

Hooray for the continued success of Shiren.
