CREATE-A-SOUL - Character Creation Mode Trailer

IS THIS WHERE I LOL ABOUT BEWBS AND COMPLAIN ABOUT JUST GUARD, BAD STORY MODE and FRAME DATA?
No. That's what the Soulcalibur V Official Thread is for. Please go there. This thread is for discussing custom characters and costumes.

WHY THIS THREAD?
The character creation mode is back from Soulcalibur IV and is even more expansive this time around. You can change the 2P costumes of the original characters with any unlockable piece and create brand new characters from scratch.

HOW TO GET STARTED
This won't be a FAQ on how to get every single piece of equipment. In Soul Calibur V you unlock new customization pieces by levelling up, which you do by playing 1P modes or online (not local Versus). Some items also unlock at specific points and some must be bought as DLC. To unlock the unique CaS style Devil Jin, you must defeat Harada in Quick Battle and reach level 5.

IDEAS FOR YOUR CHARACTERS
Your character can obviously be anything you like. Some people prefer to create characters who could "realistically" appear in the early 1600's. Here I will add useful links for inspiration and specific persons you could create. Of course, if you want to make your Chuck Norrises and Hitlers, feel free to.

To start out with, in the year 1607:
* Battle of Gibraltar: A Dutch fleet destroys a Spanish fleet anchored in the Bay of Gibraltar
* 200 armed Indians attack the Jamestown settlement, killing 2 and wounding 10.
* John Hall marries Susanna, daughter of William Shakespeare.
* Missionary Juan Fonte establishes the first Jesuit mission among the Tarahumara, in the Sierra Madre Mountains of Northwest Mexico.
* Yagyū Jūbei Mitsuyoshi is born. He is a legendary samurai who was rumoured to use only one eye, and briefly disappeared from society only to mysteriously re-appear later.
* Flight of the Earls: Hugh O'Neill, 2nd Earl of Tyrone, and Rory O'Donnell, 1st Earl of Tyrconnell, leave Ireland with 90 followers, never to return.
* Captain John Smith (Pocahontas) is released from arrest and sworn in as a member of the colony Council.
* Many religious groups (such as the Quakers and Puritans) formed colonies on the basis of their own religious beliefs
* Shakespeare's play focusing on Antony and Cleopatra brought the couple into the status quo

FEATURES
Note that characters, like in Soulcalibur III, has two layers of clothing. In this game, these are used for the armor break system. Since you're quite likely to have your upper armor broken, plan ahead for how you want your character to look without it.

There are many more colors this time.Note that skin color doesn't use its own gimped palette anymore, so making dark-skinned people should be quite possible. However, underwear still follow its own palette so it's hard to make "skin colored" clothing.

Soul Calibur V also allows extensive customisation of your characters build - allowing you to adjust muscle tone and the size of many body parts (well, almost everything)

LIMITATIONS
There is a total of 50 slots to save costumes. Any existing character can have up to 48 costumes on top of their original 2, but this is taken from your total, so if you made 48 different costumes for Ivy, you could only make 2 other costumes or characters.

Every CaS (Create-a-Soul, terminology from SC3) must be based on an original character. You can't base one on on Ezio. Algol also cannot be created.

Some items override each other. Specifically, many heavy chest items (dresses, mostly) removes things like skirts that would just clip.

You can't edit the costumes of Ezio. If you try, you go into the regular CaS menu but all you can change are stat-changing accessories. Sorry, no naked Ezio or Bikini Ezio.

Some characters have limited equipment possibilities. You can't give Yoshimitsu any head piece that doesn't cover his entire head and you can't change or remove his jacket or pants. Unfortunately, this means that you can't give him a Tekken 2 outfit even though the items necessary are available in the game (mask, strawhat and kimono). Nightmare and Aeon also can't use some slots. You can edit Algol's outfit.

THREAD RULES
Post your custom characters in this thread. A picture is helpful but not required for color guides. While it doesn't seem like you can export or share characters, PS3 owners can take screenshots easily and if they wish, can upload the necessary steps required to give players an idea of what equipment is needed to recreate the look.

Just make sure to note the following if you wish:

* Name, voice and affiliation settings (if you feel that it's necessary).
Eg:
Name: Shaana

* Base character.
Eg:
Style: Siegfried

* Specific weapon (if necessary).
Eg:
Weapon: Requiem

* Armor pieces in each slot.
Eg:
Head: Warrior's Headdress

* Face, hair and other physical features.

* Story and background (optional).

Disclaimer: Please let me know of any confirmed info that could be useful in this OP. I will update as often as I can.

FOR THOSE ON PS3: PS3 players can take screenshots in CaS mode by pressing the Home button and using the feature under Pictures.

I'm kind of coming around on CaS. I thought it was real goofy in IV (and it still is) but I am having some fun in making my own dudes. I'll try to remember to post some of mine tonight if I have the time.

I have ideas for characters, but I wanna wait till i have everything unlocked. Hate thinking their might be some piece that makes creating the character work.

Yeah that's my biggest problem, this one is not as clear as to how much I have to unlock or if I have unlocked a certain amount already.

I also fear most of the popular items have been purposely held back as DLC :(

Like thongs? >.>

On your player card I think it gives you a item unlock %

Strat guide shows everything and what character level you need to unlock. It's something but meh.

I made a steampunk sort of character just to tinker with CaS, but I don't plan on really creating stuff until I've leveled up considerably.

Can't wait to see what comes from this thread though.

Haha, at the moment yes. But the pleated skirts and blazers are missing and I remember so many previous costumes used them so much. We shall see either way.

I was really disappointed in SC4's create mode. SC3's was much better in that there were a lot of "generic" movesets for that game's bonus characters... Apparently it was a buggy mess, but for this reason, SC3 is my favorite of the series. But I digress. Which create mode is SC5 more like in terms of moveset depth?

SCIV I believe.

Character creation in V only has one unique moveset: Devil Jin.

Oh well, at least I can still Google 'Francisco Randez'. XD

Overall, quite impressed at the stuff to edit characters, good to see they put more effort into it.

Here are three of mine that aren't completely terrible:

Siegfried edit - Knight characters take longer than I would have thought. The weapon is so weird, lol

http://i.imgur.com/c0Jul.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/ZkTJE.jpg

king badass - I saw that Siegfried got a giant Japanese sword, so obviously I had to make the most over-the-top ninja imaginable
http://i.imgur.com/dVswr.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/QfxjT.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/pkHIq.jpg

not sure what to name this character. She fights like Cerv and some of the colors are still set to their defaults
http://i.imgur.com/oIZkt.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/rY7FT.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/iW26h.jpg

I'm not even close to getting all the stuff I've seen in Quick Battle, so they might end up looking a lot different in a while

Oh, there is a normally proportioned sword? Like.

And Flamberges are awesome:

Mitsirugi's style has a bastard sword with it now too, and Nightmare has a typical fantasy-looking greatsword too (not as traditional as the flamberge, but still more realistic). It's pretty awesome.

Got bored today. Also I felt bad for Kiryogi for having to stare at an "ugly lizard" so now he gets this to fight instead.

GAF, I need help remaking Cassandra in CAS

She's been my main since SC2, but she's gone and Pyrrha stole most of her moves. I can't stand Pyrrha or the 100 decibel banshee scream she makes every time she performs an Angel Strike. So now I need a Cassandra CAS so I can play as Pyrrha without having to play as Pyrrha.

I would have taken this single character design over all the new tepid characters they've added, Voldo's newest outfit tells me their original character designer for the older games is MIA..awful, crap designs all around.

LOL Those look terribly awesome.

Viola's default actually looks really nice if you brighten it up. I'll take a screen later of the color I use for it.

Some stuff in the OP doesn't apply to SCV. The year is 1607 and the historical events I looked up for 1591 are a bit old, but I guess they still are somewhat relevant.

Corrections:

HOW TO GET STARTED
This won't be a FAQ on how to get every single piece of equipment. Also: a hint. If you want a deep black, it's usually a good idea to tone down the saturation to zero and go for the darkest version of blue or red rather than just the "black" which is rather grayish, especially on hair.

Here's a comparison:

You picked up a few more errors than me - thank you. I've updated best I can.

Wow, that saddens me. T-T.... DLC WEAPONS PLZ!!!! :p

Just unlocked "The Master" weapons. They look badass. Tried to make Gutts from berserk earlier. Didn't work out to good. Managed to make Griffith, Caska , and Gutts pretty easy in SCIV. Oh well, on to the lvl grind for equipment. :/

To get Devil Jin you don't need to beat Harada, you just need to be level 5 (may of had to have at least faced him though).

Is there a better way to get my shots off the 360 than using a camera? I've got a few I want to share but see no way of getting saving pictures like you seem to be able to on the PS3.

I've made two CaS's I'm happy with.

A female Z.W.E.I.-style, based on the Summoner Artifact Armour from FFXI (purple Ein = Fenrir). I called her SMN/WAR. She's the guy in the MMO who's invited to help main heal the party and she turns up with plate armour and an underlevelled sword skill, insisting on DDing.

And I also made a Raphael-style SYRIO FUCKING FOREL. He's so badass. The only hair that looks like the GoT TV show imagining of him is that ridiculous Afro. I'm rolling with it.

I severely envy you PS3-players' access to system screenshots and youtube uploads. I don't have any sort of camera. :[

I haven't spent much time with creation, but here's what I have.

I threw this guy together to get the trophy for making a CAS with everything, and so I'd have someone to use Devil Jin's style. I didn't realize he'd be shooting lasers out of his eyes when I put bandages over them. :p His name is something stupid but I forget what it is.

EDIT: Old one sucked. Here's a less grandmotherly version.

Hmm those bandages. I wonder if there's enough proper tools to make a spot-on Shishio.
