Okay listen up Dead Rising 2 Off the Record is coming out. I know what you're thinking, "hurr hurr CRAPCOM at it again" but listen to me THIS IS NOT THE CASE. In this game you play as Frank West, and it has a new story, kinda, and it has a sandbox mode and new cutscenes and voice acting and a brand new area. It's kinda like a new game! Look they're not charging full price and besides you guys liked Dead Island and Mass Effect 2, so obviously there is no accounting for bad taste.

From the creators behind some of Capcom’s best action games, including the critically acclaimed Resident Evil® 4 and Devil May Cry® 4, comes their next opus, Dragon’s Dogma. Set in a huge open world, Dragon’s Dogma is a unique action experience that blends exciting and fulfilling combat with the freedom to explore and interact in a rich, living and breathing world. With your party of three you set out on an epic adventure to track down and destroy a mysterious dragon. Along the way you’ll encounter some of the biggest and baddest beasts ever to roam the land, and only skilful play and tactical teamwork can save the day.

Utilizing an enhanced version of Capcom’s proprietary MT Framework® engine that delivered the groundbreaking graphical styles and lighting effects used in Resident Evil® 5 and Lost Planet® 2, Dragon’s Dogma expands the environment to create a vast, richly detailed world, ripe for exploration. Dragon’s Dogma will deliver a whole new world of action to PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft® in 2012.

Dead Rising 2: Off The Record, sees Wilamette survivor and hero of Dead Rising®, photojournalist Frank West, take centre stage as players experience a very different interpretation of events in this, a reimagining of the Fortune City outbreak. Forget what took place in Dead Rising® 2, this is Frank’s story told as only he can.

This alternate storyline means an all new Dead Rising 2 experience; with Frank facing new missions, new enemies, new combo-weapons with which to defeat them plus a brand new Fortune City attraction to explore. Complimenting the new narrative and action of Dead Rising 2: Off The Record are enhancements to elements such as the save system and the co-op experience to deliver more satisfying gameplay. Dead Rising 2: Off The Record is scheduled for release on PS3™, Xbox 360 and Windows® PCs this autumn.

Adding new characters, an all new balancing update as well as an enhanced Replay Channel, Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition will deliver the definitive version of Street Fighter® when it releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and Windows PCs this summer. More specifically, the add-on version of Arcade Edition will be available as a downloadable upgrade for existing Super Street Fighter® IV owners on June 7 for 1200 MS Points or $14.99, with a full console retail product following on June 24 in Europe and June 28 in North America, respectively, and a PC version in July.

Captivate attendees were able to experience some of Capcom’s future hits for the first time, with playable versions of recently announced squad-based shooter Resident Evil®: Operation Raccoon City, the fighting genre’s dream match-up Street Fighter® X Tekken and hard-hitting action title Asura’s Wrath™ all debuting at the event alongside Dragon’s Dogma, Dead Rising 2: Off the Record, Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition. Media were also able to join forces in the war on horror with the first showing of Resident Evil®: The Mercenaries 3D’s co-op mode.

Using high level metaphors, I'd like to state the following about this game:

Off the Record = a pig
Dead Rising 2 = a pit of slime

Off the Record is the pig that has seriously rolled over in the slime that is DR2. The lesser bits of DR2 stick to its surface.

But in the end, it is still a fucking pig.

Saw the trailer. Looks like they brought back Lifeseeker for a DR2 Exclusive Song. That said, I really hope Gone Guru comes back in some way shape or form.

I don't know if I want this now, or if I should grab it when it hits $10-20 in a few weeks. :(

Also, dude, get a new image host please. I can't look at those full-size images without ads popping up everywhere.

I freaking love Dead Rising 1 and 2 so of course I'm getting this, but I can't help but feel slightly disapointed at the same time. I'd rather they skip this and make DR3 completely set in a theme park next year.

in some ways i feel that OTR will be the true sequel that DR1 deserved because the plot is more dark and stuff. DR2 is good, but it got too serious and the direction case west took it in is cliche.

Will wait for this to hit the bargain bin just to spite you.

So if I never played DR2 before, is this the one to get? Also, would I still want to buy Case Zero before I play this one?

Depends, they are telling different stories. I enjoyed DR2, but this is putting back some of the stuff people liked about DR1 back in and some other features. You would want to play Case Zero first if you are going to play DR2 as it ties into that games story.

By the end of OTR, we'll have a minimum 3 different plotlines for the series:

1) Dead Rising 2 Ending S
2) Dead Rising 2 Ending A (which leads on into Case West, strangely enough)
3) The events of Dead Rising: Off The Record, which could have its own Ending S and A.

I wonder which one Capcom will use. All 3 could be viable points with which to continue the series.

Making bets that Capcom release 3 versions of Dead Rising 3.

It's already in the bargain bin. Much like Read Rising 2, it can be pre-ordered in the UK on PC for £13.

On the fence about this. After a price drop I'll bite I suppose. I was hoping for a completely fresh storyline.

So this really is just another telling of the story in 2 but with Frank embelishing what happened ? Or is it supposed to be what Frank was doing during the events of DR2?

It's the former, used as a what-if scenario of sorts. Chuck is still involved, apparently, but he's no longer the main character.

I´m playing dead rising 1 now to get along off the record and wow...
It makes me rage how shitty is the AI on the escort missions...
Asside from that is a great game.

Yeah, that was probably the greatest source of difficulty in the first game, fair or not. Some survivors could handle themselves reasonably well, while others seemed to have their AI permanently set to "spastic child." The large number of injured and female (sexism :lol) survivors who couldn't use weapons was also a huge hassle.
