That was less than a year ago... :D

Even so those are small budget lineup filler that will barely sell enough on established consoles.
Well, you have Square Enix pulling the Seiken Densetsu Collection from nowhere and selling more and at a higher price than it probably has any right to. Meanwhile Capcom is sitting on the Disney Afternoon Collection that already exists where even its developer Digital Eclipse says they are open to a Switch version and to let Capcom know about the interest.

That's what makes the remake only for ps4 and the vita but no switch version in sight so strange

SE was pretty bullish on Switch. When it was just the DQ slip-up it was easy to assume that "DQ is extremely Japan leading and thus Nintendo and portable friendly." But you have them quickly moving their BD team over, quickly expanding their new RPG studio's target to include Switch, and even expressing curiosity about FFXV in some form on Switch. It is just about the best Square interest in the device we could expect.

Capcom was extremely doubtful of Switch or just had no interest in putting their eggs there anymore. I think it is clear that they were unreasonable in the extent of their doubt even if we can (or could as the case may be) be understanding of them not fully believing in it or wanting to go there with Nintendo.

Was? To me Capcom still seems doubtful then. The turnaround for such collections is very fast considering usual development times, Disney Afternoon already exist, its developer already publicly showed willingness to work on it and fans already have been asking for it since from before Switch itself launched.

With the english release of MH stories. is there a good reason why the game was failure in Japan? Seem to me like a solid effort to attract children and Pokemon fanbase.

Because the MH fan base don't want a MH game that's Pokemonesq, and the Pokemon/YW fanbase really don't care for a MH game styled after Pokemon/YW. It's game that doesn't particularly appeal to either base, and can only sell so much off it's franchise name.

MH base was not it's intended market. Capcom obviously wanted to get into the remaining kids market on the 3DS not occupied by Nintendo. It would've have worked but Capcom did not have the financial strength to market the game and anime aggressively as Nintendo and others have done in the past.

We'll be fixed pretty soon anyway, but yeah it'd be weird if a direct wasn't happening next week, or in the few days before TGS the following week.

Now for something completely different, I just read this on Gematsu and found that story pretty interesting. There was that Summer Lesson-clone made by D3 called "Happy Manager" announced at last year TGS, initially planned as a VR only title (just like Summer Lesson). D3 recently announced that the game will release in early 2018, but the platform choice went under some changes. From a PSVR only release, it then switched to PS4 + PSVR support at some point, and now it's seemingly only releasing as a PS4 title, without any virtual reality features. It's pretty weird how a game that was seemingly tailored for the virtual reality is now stripped of its core to release as a PS4-only title. Hence my question : is the VR state in Japan that bad, or has the hype simply completely died ? Note that this announcement comes a few days after Bamco announced the episode 3 of Summer Lesson, still only on PSVR.

The state of VR isn't bad here, but private ownership of VR systems is low. People do go play VR at special arcades and DMM.R18 has been hugely successful with their VR porn series that they offer at manga cafes.

The anime is boring, and failed to get children to talk about and mimic it so it never caught on.

If there are still people who don't believe in Capcom's complete lack of faith on Switch but everything is going according to keikaku with small support at first, next week's direct is a good chance to prove themselves right.

But something tells me they will be absent once again.
It's pretty evident when all they had/have is ports and absolutely nothing else.
They did say they would consider Switch support after seeing how SF2U performed = no plans for anything for the Switch at that time.

I didn't mean much with "was" tbh. Just meant to signal that I was unsure what their current plans are for Switch. I think we know their attitude going into launch. I think it is unclear where they stand now wrt future games.

I often see complaints about the turn around time it takes for Japanese publishers to release their games in the west, but in reality it goes both ways. It's okay though, while the game looks really good, and I never thought I would say that again for an Ubisoft game, there are still 4 must buy games already announced for me this season, and I am well over my usual gaming budget. Early next year will be a perfect time for it to come out.

Didn't it also launch a month before Sun and Moon? Seemed like horrible timing for them to try to launch an RPG series for Pokemon fans when the next big Pokemon was a few weeks away. Could've done better in the early life of the system.

It's a spin off intended for children Based on a game that's not.
MH fans aren't in it for the story since those games don't have any.
They're in it mostly for the co-op which I think this game lacks.

Also, it's Pokémon where Pokémon already exists

Well even as of Dead Souls they had a kind of companion app (before that was much of a thing), which I suspect was Japan-exclusive but it isn't the first time they're putting out a Yakuza product on a mobile device prior to this comment.

So, perhaps what they mean is that modern Yakuza games are 'home' experiences, especially when even the Black Panther games on PSP were more in the style of the first two on PS2 with the pre-rendered backgrounds.

Leg-o-Meter - August 2017

Just noticed Pokémon Sun and Moon dropped from the Top 20 for the first time this year. Wonder if/when it'll be back. Also, Animal Crossing just overtook Mario Maker 3DS, and Zelda could do the same with GTA V this month.

Just to correct you, it was never PlayStation VR-only. It was always PS4 with PSVR support.

I think a very important factor is that it launched so late in the system's life. Imagine if Level-5 had released Youkai Watch then instead of in July 2013. Cacpom took too long to release Stories.

not related though, but do you guys have know how many other small teams that Atlus's Maniax is having right now aside from the EO team and the Smt team?

Unlike amazon's continues restocks, there is no info from retailer blogs that could lead to increased shipments this week, they look to be again at 40-50k range, Bic Camera lotteries tomorrow will likely confirm this.

Next 2 weeks are when baseline could rise, there are some important releases for the system.

That would still be good if it was a new baseline right?
After those next 2 weeks, is there any special time before the usual christmas season where it could change?

I agree. I know there's been obsession about MH, but I think the absence of so many "easy money" games is a more telling sign of their lack of faith. Not expecting much from them in the near future, mayyyybe an Ace Attorney sorta tease at TGS but that's it. I'd love for them to prove me wrong, though.

If the Direct is next week, that'd be a couple of days before the Samus Returns is out, so featuring it in the Direct would be pointless. They've already shown everythign there was to show without going into full spoiler territory.

I've heard rumblings of a direct on the 13th. Just rumbles. I'd expect one soon anyway.

I'm not too hooked into what's happening with Nintendo directly as I always maintained. I know more 3rd party comings and goings. But this is what I've heard.

hearing any 3rd party comings in conjunction with the direct?

Odyssey. Most interesting thing to watch is what will happen with lotteries in December. Demand will skyrocket but so will shipments (at leat in relative terms).

47k is roughly the average amount sold per week since the second week of March, so I'd say 'good' is it averaging noticeably above that.

Honestly the way people try to redefine a baseline every single week slightly does my head in.
We can project a baseline until the end of the year based on past trends and one week's figure isn't going to alter it much.

Aight since we got a lowkey confirmation for a Direct on Sep 13, I need to ask the most important questions for this great little community:

Will there be Monster Hunter announcement for Switch? Because otherwise the system is done in Japan

Everything else is not relevant in the slightest, we have to focus here

Cacpcom rep will come on stage to laugh at the camera then throw a bunch of PS4 Pro before running with the Yakuzas chasing him.

I think DQXI switch release date is more important than Monster Hunter

Well yeah, it's obviously different if you start looking at an average since release, but that wasn't why I asked.
It's more important to have stable stock than just having a good stock every 6 weeks.

The system of course; the Monster Hunter series itself is invincible and will survive us all

Cacpcom rep will come on stage to laugh at the camera then throw a bunch of PS4 Pro before running with the Yakuzas chasing him.

Are we talking about real Yakuzas here or just Nagoshi from SEGA

No Monster Hunter, but there will be some other interesting stuff.

As I said, there is nothing interesting outside of Monster Hunter

If the all the video games were earth, Monster Hunter would be the sun

I think DQXI switch release date is more important than Monster Hunter

I disagree BrokenJohnCena and would request you to reconsider this statement

There will be no MH and Switch will flop. /s

Seems like the most likely scenario so far;
In general it feels like 3rd parties have given up on the Switch already and we should focus on Nintendo's next hardware - if they is Nintendo hardware to come - instead
