Zynga planning "draw this brand" in-game advertising for Draw Something

Hmm, I think anyone opposed to this idea has some entitlement problems...

Would you include advertisers in that thought? Because it really doesn't sound as hot as you seem to think from that perspective.

More like "write KFC" i only played for a week or so, but it seemed everyone just wrote the word instead of drawing it

I actually never encountered this but then again, I didn't play with random people. If a friend of mine did this, I would mercilessly go to town on them on Facebook personally.

I find advertising in a product I've purchased expressly to remove ads to be a pretty gross practice. That isn't being entitled, it's being lied to.

I stopped reading at this point.

Why? This is a free game. Do you not watch TV because of ads? Not read GAF because of banners?

When it comes to games, I think I prefer the ad supported model. If there was a 400 points version of Fez that replaced cubes with McDonalds logos, I would have taken it.

I prefer going out of my way to avoid sprinkled ads as a consumer. When I want to know about products, I also go out of my way to inform myself where it makes sense. I feel like I need to keep control over what drives my purchasing decisions for some reason. Weird, right?

Like expecting to not be advertised to in a paid app? This is asking for too much?

You realize Zynga/OMGPOP makes a killing from this app already. The only reason they're doing this is because they're greedy fucks and always want more money without a care in the world about their customers.

It's really sad how far expectations have fallen.

Sorry man but imo that's really sad.

Yeah, it's £1.49. There is a free version that I assume is already supported by ads and I assume these 'draw some coke advert' things will also be in the pay for version so it's not really helping to keep it free.

Certainly in the paid app they should give the option to turn off.

There are 3 options to draw so I guess you don't have to draw that specific item if you don't want to. I did draw a very nice looking bag of Cooler Ranch Doritos and had no problem doing it.

I suspect if you have to ask, no explanation will make sense anyway. But let me try an analogy:

I eat; I shit. I don't put shit in my food. The two activities have a relationship to one another, but they don't need to be that closely related.

I have nothing against ads in a general sense. I get it: free game, stomach the ads. Doesn't mean I want to grease my body with them, so to speak. That's what this essentially is. It's a wallowing in commercialism I want no part of.

This was one of my favourite games growing up, so maybe I've been intoxicated by the corporate world to the point that things like this don't bother me. Maybe it explains why I love Big Macs too.

I would imagine the average American seeing nothing wrong with shilling shit for billion dollar corporations for absolutely nothing. The rest of the planet however, those that haven't voluntarily devalued their own labour capital and become sniveling wretches to please their randian overlords, their titans of industry, their benevolent corporate overlords might see something inherently degrading about it.

Yep, I have a little self respect so I find it disgusting.

yes yes, you're a paragon of virtue and self-restraint for not playing a game, good for you

Anyway, this seems like a bad idea to me. The app's already becoming less popular; the article posted in the OP claimed that the amount of daily active users went down from 14 million at the start of April to 10 million as of yesterday. And once more people hear about the change, I think that a good chunk of them will just stop using the app altogether - assuming that the advertising words will be added to both versions of the app, and not just the free version. And of course, there'll be a bunch of people that just draw something gross based on the ads out of spite and then move on to the next thing - I guess that still counts as advertising, but it doesn't seem all that great to me.

I... wait, doesn't it already have this? I thought that's why shit like "Tintin" "Spider-Man" and "Adele" came up.

I guess it falls under parody or something? I don't know much about legal terms, so your guess is as good as mine.
