‘Fifa 18' (-55%) makes it 3 weeks in a row at No1 in the All Formats Chart, beating Warner's new release ‘Middle-Earth: Shadow of War,' debuting in at No2.

It's a similar story to 2014, where ‘Fifa 15' beat the predecessor of this week's No2 – ‘Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor' as both were at No1 and No2 respectively. Despite missing out on the top spot, Warner now have 3 titles in the top 10 with ‘Lego Worlds' at No9 (+5%) and last week's release ‘The Lego Ninjago Movie Videogame' at No10 (-22%). Bethesda's new entry ‘The Evil Within 2' debuts at No3, which leaves ‘Forza Motorsport 7' dropping 2 places to No4 (-63%) and pushes Activision's ‘Destiny 2' out of the top 5 for the first time since its release to No6 (-42%). Elsewhere in the charts, we have a first entry from publisher Gun Media, with their new release ‘Friday the 13th: the Game' as it debuts in at No15.

DAAAMN that bandicoot is still in the top 10 in UK and others, that's pretty crazy nostalgia right there.

I wonder if it will stay exclusive I mean, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to release it on Xbox / pc.

Forza Motorsport 7 second week does not look half bad actually. I hope The Evil Within 2 numbers are not too weak, at least it doesn't seem to be a Prey level of failure.

Week 40 in France : Forza 7 begins at #3. FIFA 18 Switch is out of top 5 despite being still there on PS3.

It's at 42k at most.
Honestly, Shadow of War not being No. 1 is kind of suprising to me.

Edit: Freaking hate how meaningless the PR has become.

Not too good for The Evil Within 2... a total disaster.

Is it bad - yes. Is it a total disaster - I wouldn't say so.

Yeah, after that 'best WB game pre-orders' news, it's indeed surprising. Do PAL charts count pre-orders?

Big publishers can spin the numbers any way they want or they can even lie, it's not like they have to make the exact numbers public knowledge. Personally I'm not surprised Shadow of War didn't debut at no1 (and without a big drop compared to its predecessor).

Man, Bethesda's released four flops in a row. That said, even though it's facing strong competition from Assassin's Creed Origins and Super Mario Odyssey, both of which will likely outsell it, I can see Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus performing decently.

Kind of surprised to see Shadow of Wardor selling more on PS4 considering MS has the co-marketing for it and has been heavily pushing it for months.

Oof. I kind of feel like I should buy it now - not played the first but I kind of want to support a publisher who still heavily invests in single-player stuff the way Bethesda does.

Dishonored 2, Prey and TEW2... what am I forgetting?

Shadow of War launched in second place. Its physical sales were down slightly on console compared to 2014's Shadow of Mordor, but this could be put down to the rise of digital sales.
And then there was The Evil Within 2. Despite charting in third place, there was a gulf in sales between it and Shadow of War. Worse, it sold less than a quarter of The Evil Within's 2014 physical launch total.

Ouch.

Switch over XB360! #vindicated

That was a joke. It seems like Switch SKU of FIFA will land somewhere between terrible and mediocre depending on the legs. At least it is above the legacy edition this week, hope it can remain on top in that race at least.

Edit: If we put logic to work: Switch went from 1% to 2% while total FIFA 18 numbers went down 55%. So, that would mean that thr sales of this week are about the same as last week's. That would in fact indicate that there were stock issues that got resolved, since the other SKUs all dropped compared to previous week.

Shadow of War has done pretty well but still amazing it isn't number one.. And the marketing budget on it was through the roof (lots of negative coverage though).

Evil within on the other hand appeared to have no hype and little presence more generally.

Edit: reading further it seems the same happened with the first mordor game v fifa. But given this is fifa's third week (with a 55% drop on second week.. So massively down on first week) it is very interesting. 'Mainstay' franchises really do control the UK market.

Would be kinda funny if the version wound up justifying itself to EA through its legs. That said it's still hovering around like, 1% of all sales overall.

Yeah, the question still is what they expected for it, but even if it legged on strongly, it would be a mediocre result at best I'd say. It won't magically distance itself massively from the legacy editions all of a sudden.

Just seen these FIFA numbers

Not surprised it's down quite largely from 17. The game is still 50 quid pretty much everywhere whereas you could get 17 for 37 or even less pre release pretty easily

Certainly more in 'Well, we can justify making a port' territory, rather than it being special priority.

More people own a PS4 than an Xbox. That's a fact no Microsoft marketing can change. And it's Lord of the Rings, so people will hear about it one way or the other. Chances are they own a PS4 and not an Xbox.

It's a little silly that Microsoft got the marketing rights for Shadow of War and then made very little effort to actually market it.

69% PS4, 29% Xbox One for Evil Within 2 wow. Xbox users don't like horror?

In before gamz with his people waiting for Xbox One X reply.

More, as oti noted, the likely result of the split in the market in favour of PS4 overall. Unless there's other mitigating factors, such as built-in fandoms, people are probably going to default to purchasing any given multi-platform title on PS4.

TEW 2 on PS4 sold ~2.4:1 compared to Xbox version, the difference between PS4 and Xbox user bases is nowhere that big (it's about 1.3-1.4:1)

Shadow of Mordor's split is also noteworthy. I doubt the gap is to blame here (it's still not that big), it's just that the PS4 is the de-facto multiplatform console.

It's a little silly that Microsoft got the marketing rights for Shadow of War and then made very little effort to actually market it.

I asked a question like this about a year back. The response I got was that MS knows fully well the marketing deals are useless to get the lion's share of S/W sales but they keep at it to keep the publishers happy.

Ah, fair enough, apologies for not being aware. That said I still suspect in cases of overlap (ie, owns both XBO and PS4), people would default to PS4 over XBO.

More importantly there are significantly more PS4 and X1 users today than when TEW first released.
