Mass Effect 2 |OT2| The Den Of Xenophiles

Worth saying for those wondering if there'll be a GOTY edition with all the DLC on 360, it's pretty likely to happen. There's one more piece of Shadow Broker sized DLC to come (plus Genesis, which is slated to come to PC/360 at some point as a Cerberus free download) so I imagine any disc-based 'ultimate edition' will come after that DLC releases, which I reckon will be around E3 time when the ME3 hype machine starts in earnest.
I'm really hoping there is. I played through the game on a copy that I borrowed from a friend, so I was playing it with no DLC at all (not even the free DLC you get with a new copy), and I'm pretty anti-DLC anyway, so I think it'd be worth it to me to wait to buy a version like that and play through again with all the extra content.

This has probably been mentioned before but I just wanted to give a heads up for those OCD about achievements and trophies. If you do Overlord before the Firewalker: research assignment (when you first get the Hammerhead and get a tutorial on how to operate it)...know that you are supposed to drive over those little yellow targets and hold Y to gather the data packets during the Hammerhead segments of Overlord.

I had no idea I what those yellow markers were when I played through Overlord. Now that I’ve completed it…I can’t go back and land on the planet. Not a big deal but it was an easy achievement that is easy to miss for good if you unknowingly play those missions “out of order”.

I'm suffering ME2 withdrawal. I might need to pony up and buy the Shadow Broker DLC. Maybe Overlord, too.

I can honestly say that those two pieces of DLC were the best DLC purchases I have ever made. I'm not big on single player campaign DLC because once it is over...it is over. I'd rather dump money on a map pack that I can get a lot of replay on. However, both of these may have changed my mind on how I think about DLC. It was like renting a good movie. Well worth it, imo. (Doesn't hurt that I got them dirt cheap though)

True OCD achievement whores make saves prior to the start of the DLC and read up about the achievements before hand.

True. I must have hit the save cap and was just overwriting my last save (I'm a save whore). Since this happened...I've been going back and overwriting earlier saves instead of the later ones. I probably still have one pre-Overlord I can dig up.

This might be old news, but Amazon has a $10 preorder credit for Mass Effect 3. It's risk-free, because they don't charge your card until they ship, and they guarantee they'll charge you the lowest price they offer between now and release.

Awesome!

Amazon's bonus credits probably have bought me 2 full new games this past year, all with release day delivery. <3 Amazon.

Though to be honest, I feel like I should still wait for a collectors edition because I most likely am definitely going to throw down for one (which will be my FIRST ever).

Didn't know that. Thanks!

Beat the game on casual. Play time was about 70+ hours with all DLC completed. Just started my insanity run about 2 hours go. Holy shit lol, this might take a while. Brilliant game, though.

OK, this is getting ridiculous. Where is the PS3 patch?!! I guess with a game as vast as this one it takes a long time to do proper QA, but I was under the impression that it was submitted to Sony weeks ago...

I'm sick and tired of my MaleShep having a picture of Kaiden on his desk when Kaiden is alive and well on Horizon (I chose for Shepard to romance Ashley, then be forced to leave her to die - just thought it made a more interesting backstory). That whole reunion scene was already homoerotic enough having without a picture of the guy in my bedroom!

Obviously, hearing that the patch will also reduce some of the loading times and eliminate the save game bugs that have been reported is great... but mostly I just don't want Kaiden eyeing me lovingly from my desk anymore! :D

360. I've got all the programs mentioned in that Bioware thread, I think it's a matter of hardware--or rather, what I'm using to connect that hardware, because my 360's HDD isn't being recognized. When they said transfer cable, I automatically assumed it was the transfer cables that Microsoft bundles in with their larger HDDs.

I'm wrong, right? :(

It's been a few months since I dicked around with save editing. All of my bookmarks are at home and I'm at work right now. When I get home I'll take a look at it again and see if I can help you out. I never used a transfer cable and I don't think you need one if you have a USB stick.

[EDIT] - Okay, I've found it.

So, are you able to add additional powers to your squadmates as well? Please say yes!

How the hell did you play this game for 70 hours? My insanity run with 100% completion was sub-40

what did I do wrong? :(

I played on hardcore and the exact same thing happened to me, all ship upgrades completed and all crew members were loyal. That didn't jive with me so I looked it up, turns out you have to send him back with the crew as the escort for him to survive. Doesn't make sense to me but it worked when I tried it.

Let me take a guess: For whatever reasons, you didn't leave two of these three people on the line:

Zaeed
Grunt
Garrus

While that is one way, it is not the only way.

Is there another mission pack DLC coming? I saw the new appearance pack DLC out, just wondering if that was the new stuff they announced.

They have said that there is one more major DLC on the level of Shadowbroker.

This pleases me. I did Shadow Broker when I finished the game, but skipped the rest of the DLC. When this comes out I'll do everything I missed then wait not patiently for ME3.

Is it true it is easier to play Insanity on a new playthrough because if you continue another playthrough with a high level character the game enemies adjust to your characters level?

It is true indeed.

The GUI will allow squadmates to have an extra power (like Shepard), so yeah.

If you in the mood to try it you can add a really interesting squadmate early
Legion
. Here is a link to do it http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/105/index/1585456

Yeah, it's easier with a new game. With a NG+ they are at your level and you don't have any weapon upgrades until you eventually get the chance to upgrade them. So it makes it really tough to start.

I'm probably saying this for the 15th time, but I need moar DLC. Or at least a tease. One more DLC of the same quality as LOTSB and I'll explode.

sent Mordin on the escort mission
and everyone survived this time. :D

Do they have 8 slots like Shepard? Or are you only limited to one additional power each?

Very interesting. I don't know if I want to use
Legion early
, but I am very interested in delaying that
Reaper IFF timer
. I complained about that earlier in the first ME2 thread because I thought it was weird that they didn't allow you some time to do a few more missions and talk it out with
Legion
before you're practically forced to go through with both
it's loyalty mission, and the Suicide Mission.

Just one.

I made a "test" playthough and had
Legion
early and it changes some of the conversations you have with other characters (not much) but still interesting.

It's fun to get Tali early since she has dialogue for all of the recruitment missions plus
Horizon
. Also during the Thane loyalty mission bring her along when you talk to Capt.Bailey and ask about the Shepard VI that Mouse is selling.

It's pretty easy once you get the hang of it

Does anybody have a list of the names of all the weapons as they appear in the save editor? For example, that new pistol with the laser sight is called "SFXGameContentDLC_Pistol.SFXWeapon_LaserPistol".

Lookin' for the Cerberus Shotgun in particular, but if there's a list with all of them, that'd be nice too... Powers too! :p

I tried giving Warp and Throw to Jacob and Miranda respectively. I did it the same way I did for Shepard, but they're not showing up on neither the Power Wheel or Squad sub-menu. What am I doing wrong here? Is it the Wheel Display Index #? I left it at 0 as I did for Shepard's second bonus power.

Here is a list of weapons and other stuff http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Mass_Effect_2_PC_Tweaks_and_Cheats

Powers and stuff in this post http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/128/index/2277020

I have the PC version and a heavily modified Coalesced.ini, so I don't know if it's possible to add squadpowers on the 360. Never really tried it, just assumed because of the extra slot on the GUI.

edit: doesn't look like the Cerberus shotgun is listed on that page, here it is

WOW @ Shadow Broker. What an awesome DLC!
I spent some time afterwards
reading the various docs, dossiers, etc and learning some funny/interesting things

Just finished Overlord and Shadow Broker today.

I liked Overlord in general, but I'm not a fan of the Hammerhead at all especially when it comes to combat. Even on easier settings you pretty much get assploded as soon as some turrets lock onto you and that caused some severe frustration.

Story wise it was really cool and even kind of creepy. The end of it was great.

Shadow Broker... Christ. There's a lot of praise for it, and for good reason. Very, very well done. Exciting, interesting, lengthy. The rainy atmosphere on Illium was amazing and the combat tune really stuck out. I hope the scenarios in ME3 are even close to as well done as this one.

Hard to get enough of this game, really.

Early purchase bonus ends this week. Is the extra DLC worth it or should I wait a little bit for a price drop? I do wanna get it eventually, at the very least before ME3 releases, but I've already got a backlog and don't wanna buy now only to really get into 2-3 months later.

Download the DLC now, then delete it if you need the space. After this it should be on your download list and you'll be able to redownload it.

edit: btw you dont need to have the game to DL the content, anybody can DL the free stuff from the PS Store.

Completed the game last week for the first time and had a blast very awesome game, towards the end when it's time to
go to the Omega 4 relay, I didn't go right away and found out what that means for my crew :( everything else went perfectly

Finished my Insanity run yesterday and went through the
Omega 4 relay right away and saved my crew but for whatever reason Tali died at the end! :( I couldn't have that so I replayed it and had her in my party at the end and everyone survived.

Is this for PSN? Because the only extra pack really worth buying is the Firepower pack, as the guns are pretty cool (if overpowered). Everything else is hit or miss.

If you're talking about DLC on another platform, then get Shadow Broker at least. Its essential Mass Effect gaming.

According to a user at the Bioware forums, the PS3 patch added 3 trophies for a new DLC add-on called "Arrival". Others have said that this isn't a hoax. Here's the trophy descriptions:

The Ultimate Sacrifice
- Complete the Arrival DLC

Last Stand
-Survive all five waves in the battle for Object Rho

Covert Action
-Rescue Dr. Amanda Kenson without attracting hostile attention.

Based on the title of the DLC, I'm guessing that this takes place after the suicide mission.

If true, that name fits in with the very last Cerberus Daily News report we got before it went offline.

"Historians and astronomers alike are abuzz tonight over a new paper published by Dr. Amanda Kenson of the University of Arcturus. Her team claims that by testing the dust trapped in the gravity wells around a mass relay, and comparing its composition to that of dust clouds in the same system, scientists can create a timeline of when the relay passed through the dust. Her conclusion? “Only a small fraction of the mass effect relays date back 50,000 years,” she writes, “The majority are far older, indicating they were created by a species predating even the Protheans.” Dr. Aurana T’Meles of the University of Serrice met the information with skepticism: “While Dr. Kenson’s methods appear sound, the asari tried a similar procedure centuries ago and discounted it. What civilization could have spanned the galaxy for not thousands, but millions of years? If this were the case, we should have found mountains of evidence of their passing. Where is this species now?"
