Really enjoyed episode 1, Gods of the Arena was ok to me but it's nice to have this story line back finally. Can't hate on the new Spartacus, guy filled the role the best he could. It's just a very unfortunate event that happened and this is the best they can do.

edit - Saw the tribute at the end of the credits. Glad they did it.

Damn good premiere.

BUT

I did feel a little strange the entire time. Not having Batiatus around, having the show taking place outside of the ludus, and finally continuing all the plotlines from a episode that aired 21 months ago was kind of weird, not gonna lie. Also, Liam as Spartacus will take some getting used to. Blood and Sand focused on Andy's face and reactions so much that it's hard not thinking what HE would've done, the cocky Spartacus smirk in particular.

oh wow. my account is activated.

really like the season 3 premiere. New Spartacus does the job, but lacks Andy's charisma.

sniff at the tribute after credits

Don't forget that Andy himself (and as much as I loved him) was also a bit of a meatbag during the first episodes. Give our new bro some time.

So I'm maintaining my discipline and not watching Ep1 till next week. But for those who caved, can you let me know if the overall quality is on par with GotA and the later half of S1? Particular GotA, which I thought was great from start to finish.

Great episode.

Loved the flashback sequences.

Loved the new guy, though still not as good as Andy but we have to give him time to grow.

And wow at that brothel scene!

Yes, I would say so. The plot advances at a similar pace to the better Spartacus episodes. Lots of great moments that pick up on plot strands from S1 and lay groundwork for the schemes, rivalries, and conflicts to come. The villains are given strong motivations to stamp out the slave revolt, Illythia's life gets a hell of a lot more interesting, tensions build in Spartacus's ranks, and Spartacus himself has to deal with some of the consequences of his choices as a leader.

The show is still thoroughly good. I wasn't disappointed, and my expectations were very high after seeing GotA.

Just got done watching all of Gods of the Arena and it was just as awesome as the first season

Ashur is such a fucking punk
Gaia ;_;
GOD DAMN @ the final kill by Gannicus.
Three-way with both Lucy Lawless AND Jamie Murray?! Dammit, it should have been me!
I have more sympathy for Solonius
Don't ever fuck with Batiatus......oh wait

I shall watch the S2 premiere either later today or on Sunday

By Jupiter's cock!

Great episode. It's going to take some time get used to the new Spartacus but I thought he was fine in his first episode.

Wasn't there supposed to be a way to watch the premiere online? I missed it the other night and forgot to set the DVR.

I really liked the first episode. It's definitely the best season premiere out of the lot. Season has a lot of potential. It's going to be weird not seeing Andy again, but the new actor did a good job. The tribute to Andy at the end got me.

Done watching the episode. Definitely will take some getting used to with Liam taking the reins, but I have good faith he'll do fine. As for the episode itself, I was very satisfied. Enough brutality and gratuitous sex to get me excited for the second season....which I may or may not watch depending on whether Encore will also air the episodes since I don't have Starz

I just kept clicking on it and trying and it worked. Is it not showing up at all or does it show up but when you type it gives no response. Because the problem I faced was the latter and i just kept trying until it worked.

Will watch this soon today, however before I watch this I am going to watch Season 1 finale and GotA finale to get me in the mood.

^ because you are a junior.

Anyway, I Enjoyed it.

BUT...damn I wish they could get some more funding or something. Their ble/green screen work is shameful. Shit you just know HBO wouldn't have let happen.

The shots of Rome made me cringe. Script felt verbose at times, but felt like it's going to be as good as ever.

NEED MOAR GANNICUS (sp).

Just got done watching the premiere. It was awesome overall, Liam did good, honestly.

Season premiere is not supposed to be on 27?

You can watch it on Starz's website:

Is this like 300 or Immortals?

Are there any gods in it like Zeus, etc?

There are no gods or monsters, it's relatively down to Earth. It's shot in a style similar to 300, that should give you an idea what to expect. Watch the first four episodes of the first season(first two aren't very good), that should tell you if you're one of us or not. :p

The new Spartacus is lackluster so far, but the rest of the cast is doing fine. Great premiere otherwise.

Just starting watching it and a similar impression occurred.

He isn't as big or as well defined as Andy was. Basically isn't as hot. Heh.

I do agree that Liam doesn't look as fit as Andy.

The other problem that I have is that he isn't as intimidating either, his angry face is not as powerful, he has to work on that.

Also, his voice is very raspy. There were times were I had to play an scene again with the volume up to be able to hear what he was saying.

Half way through the episode I was thinking to myself that Liam is not as expressive as Andy, and then
the woman dies and he starts crying
and I was like "well, at least he can pull
sadness
effortlessly"

Agreed. He did that scene quite well in my opinion. I got a little
misty eyed myself >_>

God what a good episode. Best premiere by far. I look forward to the interplay between Illythia and
Lucretia
(minor previously announced) and how it is going to play out.

I like the relationship that Crixus and Spartacus have. It has developed nicely.

Hmmn... will the guy who's Spartacus is trying to kill(forgot the name) hire Gannicus to stop Spartacus and Crixus ?

Katrina Law, in the show and in that workout video. Hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggggggggggggggg.

Enjoyable first episode, although I think the new guy isn't nearly as buff as Andy. Guy looks totally out of place compared to the bulging biceps on Crixus/Manu Bennet. I mean, even fucking Glaba looks like he could kick his ass, and Glaba is supposed to be a grade-A bitch Praetor.

Can't wait to see Ashur, I love him and his portrayal of the character. So evil, so nuanced.

I suppose it will be too much to expect Starz to put new episodes on their website to watch like episode 1.

People commenting on Liam's physique, we have to remember that prior to filming Spartacus, he was playing a role that required him to lose a ton of weight. He had to gain back a lot of muscle mass and probably still hasn't had time to really refine it and get crazy ripped like the rest of the guys.

I'm sure are the season(s) progress, he'll get into pornstar shape like everyone else.

Oh! Hello there, Heath Jones. :D

First ep was good. Liam was alright as well but I think it will take a bit for people to get used to him.

Fights where good as well. Amped for the rest of the season.

I don't see why Gannicus would side with Romans rather than with the slaves. I would say that Gannicus is most likely to do whatever Oenomaus does, even if that means sitting on the side lines and trying not get involved.

Not feeling the new Spartacus, he is not bad or anything, but he lakcs Andy's strong presence and intensity. Overall the episode was great.
