ESRB Rumor: Jak and Daxter Collection coming to Vita

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

Never got around to getting it on PS3 despite the offer I could've gotten. This is better I think.

Of course it could just be the two PSP games in qHD.

EDIT: Or I could read the rating summary first!

Would happily buy if it was cross-play, just coming to the end of the first game on the PS3 so don't really want to start again.

The Vita sure is getting a lot of ports.

For those who haven't played the collection before, only the first game is really worth your money. Jak 2 is horrible and Jak 3 is decent at best. Jak 1 is pretty darn good though.

Pretty much ignore this man. Jak 1 was pretty much just an open world Crash Bandicoot rip off. The second two are hard as balls, and damn awesome. They were the next best thing to a cartoony GTA if you had a Mother who read the Daily Mail and wouldn't buy you such games, as I did.

Releases like this should've come out to fill up the release calendar a while ago. Better late than never I guess ...

I would prefer to play this on the Vita. But dang, how do I hope they allow Cross-Buy... I already have the PS3 collection but not sure how that would work out

I have the HD collection and Platinum trophied the original game; something I usually don't do. Probably because it's a very easy game, but I really enjoyed the whole thing, and it looks gorgeous. Always did on PS2 also. I'd say it's ideal for a handheld, but I'm not sure I'd buy it again on Vita because I didn't get along with 2 and 3 so much, but maybe it'll end up on PS+ at some point.

Come on man that's not really fair.
I understand that you might like Jak 1 better, but that doesn't make 2 and 3 "horrible and decent at best". In fact, I'm pretty sure that many people will enjoy the sequels a lot due to the more action and open world oriented gameplay.

Platinum Trophy: Learned to Shit While Upright Again.
Hopefully it's Double Dip Material in Trophies

I don't want it to be a shared list =/

Give me another 3 Platinums!

lol what? First off, how exactly did Naughty Dog rip off their own creation? Second, how the fuck does that comparison even apply? Crash wasn't the first platformer ever, you know, and if anything, Mario 64 is the better comparison.

Jak 1 was brilliant, Jak 2 was mediocre at very best and Jak 3 was a big improvement over 2 but still had issues.

Anyway, it wouldn't surprise me if this turned out to be true, as it'd be relatively easy support to throw behind the system but I don't really think it'll change much. Pity they can't retroactively make the PS3 version cross-buy because I doubt I'd buy this collection again just to play them on the Vita.

So, they are not good games on their own? If you have GTA dont play Jak? WTH are you saying.

Bolded part sounds awesome! Never played these games since I never owned a PS2, so I'm certainly looking forward to this (if the rumour turns out to be true).

I love the first one, like the second and am severely confused on my feelings on the third.

In any case, I have played these games enough, methinks.

Damn, I just started going through the trilogy finally, after buying the collection on ps3 awhile back. I'd much prefer it on my vita though. Ugh, to continue playing or not.

Or ignore this man? ;) all subjective haha. Jak 1 is fantastic. I you like R&C, spyro or Crash Bandicoot, you will likely find much to love with Jak & Daxter 1. How an open world Crash Bandicoot could be construed as a bad thing, I don't know.

I mean "ripoff" in the way that, to all intents and purposes, it feels like a Crash game. Wouldn't surprise me if it started off that way in development before they lost the license. The main character doesn't talk, he spins, the world is vibrant and natural, you're smashing crates and collecting relics of power... just seems familiar to me.

The next two games build a world of their own, and are much better in my eyes. The first was a simple collectathon platformer, and whilst the second and third are divisive, they're of a much higher production value and overall quality.

All 3 games felt so different from each other, with Jak 2 being the most frustrating one. I'll get this if it has its own trophy set.

I own them on PS3 but never got round to playing them. This would be my preferred method too. Here's hoping the Ratchet & Clank collection follows soon after.

I still don't see how this is a bad thing dude! :p haha I'm on the windup a bit, I know what you mean now. Still though, I love the first. Think I'm half way through and enjoying it so much. Having did the second or third yet so it may prove that I like them better, but that wouldn't lessen that this is great.

Too wishful thinking sony with shower me with free vita versions since I have the ps3 collection.....?

No it was a fantastic platformer, and I mean technically and artistically it wipes the floor with the first three Crash titles, I just thought Jak II was Naughty Dog really bringing the concept into its own.

No. They never lost the Crash license, they never had it in the first place. Their contract was for a trilogy of games, they fulfilled it and then Sony negotiated one last game for them (CTR). By the time Jak came around, Universal had already moved on to their own (shitty) Crash games.

In comparison to the mediocre GTA clones the last two games were, sure, J&D was a total "Crash ripoff," any platformer would be. But in terms of gameplay, art style and level design, it's nothing like Crash. And you're crazy to think so because on the reasons you've given.

Is it so odd to think that a company who got a start developing platformers might bring some of their "feel" to another platformer they develop?

I just can't comprehend how people find the latter two games "mediocre GTA clones", makes me wonder if they've even played them. The inner city stuff was hit or miss, sure. But when you went under/outside/deeper within the places inside the city, the levels had an atmosphere like no other. The level in Jak II where you go to this beautiful mountain, and it's full of abandoned precursor ruins, and you can see the whole of Haven City. I don't understand how I played that and people are simply saying "lol GTA". GTA doesn't have shit on it, in many, many ways.

From a behind the scenes video;

When we started making Jak & Daxter... this was basically, this is Mario 64

But why? Vita should be getting its own original Jak & daxter game and not hand me down ports of old ps2 games. :(

Like this?!

But nah, I'd go for a Daxter 2.

For what it's worth, I got Hustle Kings Vita for free on launch day because I got the game for free from the PSN welcome back program. If you own the PSN version it may be possible.

Okay not only is this underselling Jak 1 really nonsensically (at least I understand the complaints people have against Jak 2), I dont think its fair to call a game a ripoff of another game when they're both made by the same studio in the same genre

EDIT- Oh wow I saw you elaborated later on and went with stupidly broad reasoning. Really you cant see why people would call Jak 2 a bad GTA clone when you're busy going "I cant believe this character SPINS* and DOESNT TALK what a RIPOFF"?

*A move developed to help ease dealing with enemies in a 3D space since it harms from all angles. Its why Mario has one in the galaxy games. Is that game a Crash ripoff too for using a smart piece of design?

jak i is overhyped on this forum, i played jak iii first loved it, didnt like jak ii as much and recently bought jak i on psn. the game is kiddy, i cant even get into it. i really liked the mature style of jak 2 & 3 it was similar to beast wars in a way

Not that I'm against more content being ported over, more specifically console content...but the Vita desperately needs some big platform exclusives.

Dont know how this would work. Jak 2 and Jak 3 made use of L2 and R2 iirc for transformations and the hover board. I suppose they could use rear touch but that seems weird.

Yeah...no. The first game is just another generic N64 era platformer. There's nothing unique or fun about it at all. Only play it if you're a trophy whore since it's a pretty easy platinum.

Agreed wholeheartedly. Jak 1 is one of the best games on PS2 and feels like the ultimate evolution of ND's Crash formula. Jak 3 feels kind of like an evolution of Jak II that tones down the worse aspects. Jak II, however, is a frustrating, poorly designed mess of a game. Instead of being a straight platformer with some vehicle-based segments, it becomes a vehicle and gun-based game with only a hint of platforming, which would be okay if the game weren't so cheap. And I say cheap and not hard because the game isn't difficult, just very poorly designed. Here are a few examples:

-Horrible overworld. They wanted to ape GTA by having a big city with tons of cars everywhere, but forgot one crucial aspect: the player has to be able to actually drive around this city for it to be fun. Instead, they have a hovercar system where you can switch between a high and low plane, but if you're on the lower plane then you're bound to hit a ton of hovercars and policemen who will send tons of guys after you to kill you, and if you're on the higher plane you're going to hit a ton of hovercars and buildings. So really there's no fun way to get around since you're always going to be bumping into things.

-TIME LIMITS EVERYWHERE. You will get stuck on almost every driving mission guaranteed, solely because they enforce obnoxious time limits that give you no time to screw up which, coupled with the aforementioned policemen you WILL accidentally hit and who WILL end you before you even come close to the goal, add up to a all around bad experience.

-Escort missions. With AI that gets easily killed. That have no checkpoints so when they get killed right at the end you have to start all over.

It is just not good. Jak 1 and 3 are decent enough to be worth buying, but for the love of god SKIP JAK II

It was an above average collectathon platformer. Great for its time, but nowhere near the crowning achievement of the trilogy. Otherwise they would have done two more (yawn). The hate for Jak II is baffling, clearly many who couldn't get past the tank level here...

WOW, every single point you made here is factually incorrect. Jak 2 puts much more focus on platforming than gunplay, the Krimzon Guard barely does anything to impede your progress when you run into them, and there's only a few timed missions and even fewer escort missions, and when there are the time limits are more than generous and the people you have to escort don't get themselves killed easily unless you're really incompetent at protecting them. Did you even play the game? It's a masterpiece which still has some of the best 3D platforming level design to this day.

Recently played through these 3 games again on the collection on PS3 and I thoroughly enjoyed them all (I actually preferred Jak 2 to Jak 3).

If I had a Vita I would probably double dip on this.
