MARATHON IS OVER, THANK YOU FOR WATCHING!

What are they doing?

TwitchPresents will be streaming all 4 volumes of RWBY.

Why?

To celebrate the upcoming premiere of Volume 5, which will air on Saturday October 14, 2017.

What is RWBY

Taken from VanillaCakeIsBurning's OT:

RWBY (Red/White/Black/Yellow/pronounced "Ruby") is an animated web series produced by Monty Oum and Rooster Teeth Productions.

Long before the beginning of the series, the world of Remnant used to be covered in darkness. Mankind was born into a hostile world dominated by monsters called the "Grimm". Humanity's future was at first bleak, but due to the discovery of "Dust" they were able to drive back the Grimm and create an expanding civilization. At the time of the series' start, the world is in a state of peace. In order to safeguard against the Grimm should they one day return, various academies were created to train combat specialists called Huntresses/Huntsman.

The main characters attend one of these academies called Beacon, situated in the Kingdom of Vale.

What's the schedule?

They plan to dedicate each day to a specific volume, with Friday being a culmination of them all:

Monday October 9, 2017 - Volume 1 @ 11:00 AM PT
Tuesday October 10, 2017 - Volume 2
Wednesday October 11, 2017 - Volume 3
Thursday October 12, 2017 - Volume 4
Friday October 13, 2017 - Volumes 1 - 4

What if I missed out on a couple episodes?

If you would rather not wait for a repeat of the episode that you missed you can always go to roosterteeth.com and watch it there.

Should I check this out?

Yes. Now would be the perfect time as you'll be able to experience it alongside many other first timers, not to mention taking part in the Twitch chat memes/shenanigans which is very entertaining in itself.

Here's an example of the fight choreography that's present in the early seasons before Monty Oum's passing (RIP to a wonderful, talented individual):

I love RWBY and look forward to the Twitch chat.

If it's half as entertaing as the Power Rangers chat we're in for a good time.

I wonder if they'll show the character trailers or just jump straight to Volume 1?

Tempted to put this on in the background while I'm doing schoolwork.

Hopefully someone makes a compilation of the chat.

STOP SHITTING ON MY MOTHER'S HEADSTONE
Be warned, new folks: the animation occasionally looks real low budget in the beginning (the shadow people are my favorite example of this), although the fight scenes are always fantastic. The show looks better every season, and the story stuff gets better too, so just stick with it.

Also be careful of Twitch chat, because I guarantee some asshole is going to be throwing spoilers around, and yes that actually is a concern for this show.

Btw, everyone should check out the original trailers before the marathon starts. They're kind of like prequels and have some of the best action scenes (and music) in the series.

Yes, absolutely 100% this.

Ctrl+F: Nuts and Dolts.

Ah, I see the author the spreadsheet is also a (wo)man of culture.
So are they going to play repeats of the days episode later in the evening (US time) like they did with the MST3K marathon?

Yeah, if I read correctly they're going to just rerun the volume of that day continuously, so if you missed out on an episode or two you'll definitely will be able to see it later.

Edit: Nuts and Dolts is probably one of the best names I've ever heard. Kudos to whoever came up with that one.

While I don't ship it at all I'll always be amused by Lancaster purely because they went with such a stretch for an origin over the far simpler Yellow Rose.

Gonna be weird watching Jaune fumbling all over the place without an aura or semblance again. It's kinda like seeing some random normie attending Xavier's' school. Or watching Dudley trying to hack it at Hogwarts.

Right? Starting back on Volume 1 has me all sorts of excited. Like it was mentioned earlier, if twitch chat is even half as entertaining as they were during the Power Rangers run we're all going to be in for a great time.

It's unfortunate the fight scenes start to go down in quality in Season 3 on, while everything else continues to improve. Obviously they were going to be noticeably different after Monty's passing, but they never quite get back to the best of S1 and S2 in terms of fight choreography, something in each scene just feels a bit off (usually pacing/speed, or camera work).

Yeah, unfortunate but not really avoidable. Monty was a damn genius.

They seem to be doubling down on the story and character stuff to compensate, which I think is mostly working out okay.

I just adore the music for this show.

Same. The music has always been one of the shows greatest strengths and with each volume Jeff and Casey seem to reach a new level in that regard. It's incredible.

The current fights lack fluidity. The characters perform an action, stops, and then proceeds with another action. When Monty was working on them, he made sure the characters were always moving.

This is a great show.

Since I've watched it at the start of this year, I won't watch this marathon at all.

When season 5 starts anyway? Will it be available on youtube as usual?

How so? Maybe Red and White made Volume 1 look more serious then it was but Black and Yellow were fairly on point.

I know some who thought there would be more action in the series than what we ended up with. Also some who didn't expect wacky high school hijinks of the early seasons and thought it would be more serious (which they eventually ended up doing with the recent seasons).

The least character development of the main bunch, pretty much one-dimensional for most of the show. Doesn't really compare to Weiss or the others.

I was glad she got some development from halfway in Vol 3 through Vol 4, even if it was a tad rushed. She's always been the most fun character for me. Hope the trend continues in 5.
