Is giving the GOP power exactly what we needed?

They are exactly needed...why you may ask? To wake people up to finally see what damage they will leave and there on there path of doing it.

Since people are obtuse, ignorant, naive and most of all not thinking clearly. This was needed and you get exactly what you got. To get you thinking also for the next you are gonna vote..do vote. It is funny how people felt for it yet again.

This is to all who do not follow politics be it your health care or consumer protections like privacy.

People just never learn and now all of a sudden now that Trump is president people who thought they would make it better off course they where lied in there face, the consequenties are real it is all happening right now.

They'll burn everything down first. And after two years of Democrats being back in power, people will be tired of their sensible policies and not vote because they're the same.

I would say the only chance that this presidency will be totally effective as shock treatment to wake people up and/or weed out jerks is if he gets impeached this year (and pence and most of his cabinet are replaced) before actually making good on some of his campaign promises (which he seems intent on doing). If he's impeached before that happens, then at worst it was a national scare that showed what happens when power goes unchecked, and proof to anyone that it NEEDS to be checked early so people like Trump can never make it to the campaign trail again. But right now we are still in the horror movie, so, no, nobody with common sense who cares about humanity asked for or deserves this.

Absolutely not. No matter how bad this administration goes, their base will still vote for them because they've been conditioned to only accept information from propaganda machines like Fox News.

"Bill, our house just burned down and our pets died".
"Honey, at least we get to build a new house".

The problem is that an incumbent has the advantage in US elections. 4 years of Trump could easily turn into 8 years of trump.

Your political bubble viewpoint makes you think that the people who supported Trump getting into office look at the failures of the Republican Party the way you do. Right now those people are actually pleased as punch at the way things are going because it is eroding the liberal mindset and hold that has been on the country. They believe with enough time and Trump running the show all this gay lesbian racial equality nonsense will evaporate and people will simply come around and think like they do.

Just go on twitter, find the first right wing comment you can and go down the rabbit hole to see what these people really think and why.

Or forever since his family and friends are now tied into the White House.

Supreme Court, Civil Rights, Consumer Advocacy, Labor Rights, Women's healthcare, Voter rights

The damage to those being carried out far outweighs any positive that may come of this.

I've lived through both H.W Bush's presidency, and George W. Busb's presidency, the latter was ten times more devastating to the country. And yet we have Donald Trump as President...barring a nuclear holocaust caused by his idiocy. People will still vote for republicans and conservatives who are not working in the best interests of average Americans.

I'm of the mind that in the short term Trump will be bad for the country (already is) but that eventually his Presidency and the backlash from it will lead to more and better change than we would have gotten with Hillary Clinton bringing more of the same.

Regressive ideals aren't going away even if he tanks the economy and starts a nuclear war. Amy permanent damage he does to conservative politics will be a baby step compared to the harm he does to the country

People said you can't get much worst than Bush yet the US elected a guy that makes George Bush seem as articulate as Hodor and as intelligent as Stephen Hawking. At the rate Republican presidents are going i shudder to think how stupid the next one will be.

As abominable as Hillary Clinton's record is, I'd rather be agitating against her than Trump + GOP-dominated government.

We're not going to have a breakthrough until the kind of mobilization we see against Trump happens under a Democratic administration. We got a taste of it with Occupy and Black Lives Matter under Obama, but for the most part liberals stayed home.
