Update:

The DualShock 4 Can Now Be Used Wirelessly On PS3

Connect DS4 with wire to PS3 then turn on.
Go to Accessory settings.
Select Manage Bluetooth Devices, and scan for device.
While scanning hold the PS & Share buttons on the DS4.
Select Wireless Controller. The DS4 light should now be white.
Unplug wire and test it out.

If you have any to add please post them and I'll add them to the OP. Could you also capitalise them to make it easier for me to cut and paste. Thanks.

NOTE: Motion sensing and MOVE aren't supported, and neither is rumble

Saw this from reddit:

DS4 with PS3
Must be connected with a cable; cannot support wireless
Vibration, Motion Sensing, and the Playstation Button do NOT work
Connect a DS3 as a second controller, and use that for the PS button.
Share/Options work for Start/Select, similar to DS3

Working
PS1 Games
Call of Duty (MW2, MW3, Black Ops, Black Ops 2)
Castle Crashers
Portal 2
Far Cry 2
The Last of Us
LittleBigPlanet/LittleBigPlanet 2
Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
Heavy Rain (no motion sensing)
Uncharted 1/2/3
Red Dead Redemption
Infamous + Infamous 2
Resistance 2 (had to use a DS3 to get past the start screen, but DS4 worked fine after that)
Killzone 3
Dead Space
Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Motorstorm (Apocalypse, Pacific Rift)
Tomb Raider
Prototype
Skyrim
Dark Souls
Battlefield 3
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon
Final Fantasy XIV
Super Stardust HD
Diablo 3
Bioshock: Infinite
Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD

Not Working
Grand Theft Auto V
Resistance 3
Jak and Daxter HD Collection (only the analog sticks work)
Gran Turismo 5

Goodness, I need to find this controller.

Would love to play RDR with it!

Does Demon Souls work?!

Everything should work. It was already explained that EA made it so USB pads didn't work with FIFA because of some weird phenomenon with that game, specifically.

Kind of crappy that the PS3 just sees it as a generic controller. They should just go ahead and update the console with DS4 drivers so they can offer full compatibility, wireless support, and so the console recognizes the PS button.

I feel this should be added to the OP. The Dualshock 4 controller should work natively via USB or/and bluetooth on Windows (desktop versions), Mac OS X, Ubuntu Linux, Google Chrome OS, iOS, and Android Jellybean 4.2.1 & up.

I'm not sure if it'll work on Windows RT. It definitely won't work on Windows Phone 8, because Windows Phone 8 still doesn't support Bluetooth HID devices.

Totally agree. PS3 will have legs and will still deliver great games in the upcoming months and years. I think this is a great opportunity for SONY to familiarize the gamers to the DS4 just by adding driver support to the PS3. I would like it to happen so i could use those shiny new DS4 controllers natively on my PS3.

I think part of the reason the Dualshock 4 doesn't work wirelessly on the PS3 is because the PS3 use Bluetooth 2.0, while the Dualshock 4 uses Bluetooth 2.1.

I sucked six dicks to get this tag.
no rumble and people are actually looking forward to using it on PS3?

Not like you need rumble to play any game these days. Only time I found I needed to use rumble was handcuffs in Double Agent but even then you could just get out of the handcuffs by listening to the sounds from your tv/headset.

i still play with a Sixaxis and havent used rumble at all.

And wouldnt games like Killzone 2&3 be in the "non working" section as they have forced motion sensor use? Atleast with planting explosives?

I don't want a PS4 any time soon, but I might just have to buy that awesome controller for my PS3.

Hopefully it will work with 3D Dot Game Heroes, too, which is the only PS3-exclusive I'd really want to play. Since the PS4 controller is a huge improvement over the PS3 one, I'd much prefer playing it with the PS4 controller.

Everybody tweet @yosp (Shuhei) about it!

They may decide against it regardless but let's at least put the idea in their heads!

I can't justify buying a PS4 for a while (stupid fiscal responsibility) but I'm gonna get a DS4 as soon as I can. I never thought I would say that. I can't be the only one, right? Sony should definitely think smart and offers some official support for this thing to encourage even more people to dip in. It's not like it would harm sales of PS4. Plus, the profit margin on accessories like controllers is huge. It's not like they're losing money with the actual PS4 units.

I would have been really tempted to get a DS4 for PS3, but that's too many compromises to justify buying one for me personally.

With regard to the games that are incompatible, I think the lack of pressure-sensitive buttons could have something to do with that.

Was excited when I tried Fallout: New Vegas and initially it seemed to work great with the DS4. Then I tried going into VATS; no L2/R2 trigger recognition. Oh well, the game froze 2 minutes later anyways.

No sixaxis/motion is really sad, I can't play Folklore using this controller.

hopefully they'll update PS3 for better DS4 support in the future.

Can we assume that if the game works with other DirectInput controllers then it will work with the DualShock 4?

(on that note, I know at least Journey and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale work with a DirectInput controller that I have, so those will probably work with the DS4.)

Either way, I'll be able to test for myself in a couple days!
