Your favorite GAMEBOY soundtracks?

Aside from the obvious (Link's Awakening), David Wise's DKC3 soundtrack (Gameboy only) is prettay, prettay good.

When it comes to individual tracks, it's hard to beat Robocop though.

Although I'm not sure which version came first, GB or C64.

C64 although that's not the best version. The spectrum 128k version was.

A lot of great ones mentioned already but here's one that sounds pretty awesome but I rarely see mentioned. Same composer as Belmon'ts Revenge.

Can't even find a decent YT version of the individual tracks.

holy shit I don't think I've been reminded of this game's existence for like, 20 years. Talk about a blast from the past. No one EVER talks about this game but it was one of the ones I had as a kid so I played it a bunch.

Oh god, that Smurfs game milking the GB's limited soundchip so hard is just amazing.

As far as recommendations go, I'll chip in with the Pokémon Trading Card Game 2 soundtrack. I was really hoping that it'd at least get a VC release on the Japanese eShop after the first game showed up over there, but it looks like I wasn't that lucky.

I remember seeing it in a Nintendo Power magazine. That's the extent of my knowledge of the game, hah.

Two of my personal favorites would have to be the soundtracks for Dragon Quest Monsters (GBC Black Cart), and Gameboy Camera. With DQM I felt like all of Sugiyama's music really lent itself well to the channels available on the GBC, with the quality of the sound being filled out really nicely. I say that game in particular, because I guess I have a better memory of it than DQ 1+2, though i'm sure the music from that cartridge is just as good. Starlit Night is my overall favorite from that game. The 3DS remaster of that track didn't even come close to capturing the flying feeling the original track had. It's also super clever in how it works within the limitation of the GB sound chip.

Gameboy Camera was incredible because it's just a great expression of Tanaka's more experimental sounds (for the tracks that were his). Funny enough though, my favorite track from that was probably the most orthodox track in the game, the Credits music (after the fanfare. I absolutely love the melody, and the way the bass voice moves in the B section makes me all warm inside). Though the Title Screen music is super cool too! While it sounds impenetrable at first, it's ridiculously complex for a GB track, the way it samples the main Mario 1-1 theme and the little call and response stuff in it is super cool and expertly constructed. This one is good too, with simple loops that are catchy and have a really distinct aural identity. Some of the sounds Tanaka got out of the GB chip is totally nuts. There's plenty more good in there too, but it's an underrated gem that makes good use of short-form loop-based composition and has a large variety of small tracks.

These guys know what's up.

So glad you guys started to post some Pokemon music I was starting to get worried.

Some of the most nostalgia filled music to me.
For whatever reason, the chiptune Pokemon music never resonated with me like it did with everyone else.

To give some obscure or overlooked ones.

Serpent. A sort of cross between Snake and the bike scene from tron but has a neat soundtrack:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3Xa0n1ysM8
Feels to me like it was meant to be dynamic (like say, Skies of Arcadia) as some parts of it sound triumphant and others despair.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6A5mCljXA_Y
Of course my encounter with the game was an 8-in-1 cart and it was the Japanese version so I was left for years trying to work out what game it was.

Final Fantasy Legend...yeah it is actually a SaGa game...which of course means it probably has a good soundtrack. Though given it is composed by Nobou Uematsu I wouldn't say it was overlooked but it still has some great tunes e.g.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mV89MF1jE1E&index=10&list=PL5693B0750A3CB9F7

FF Legend 2 was mostly Kenji Ito but there were a few Uematsu tracks as well such as this one:

Does anyone still play original Gameboy games?
I mean, I know I can play some games on VC (e-shop) or PC but it's not the same. That's why I still own a NES or N64, Gameboy (again).

Should I make a Gameboy OT? I don't know....
I'm pretty sure most of you grew up with this system.

Nostalgia is the best drug.
