Dragon Quest IX Release Date: July 11, 2010

Lock if old, I did a quick search and couldn't find anything.

via Kotaku

I thought I remembered hearing this would come out in September, but the earlier the better! I can't wait to play, personally.

Edit: This is the North American release date, for clarity.

Edit 2:

Nah July has been floating around for a while.

This will be a definite Day 1 for me.

DRAGON QUEST IX: SENTINELS OF THE STARRY SKIES LAUNCHES ON JULY 11

Character Customization, Cooperative Multiplayer Adventuring and an Epic Story Make for a One-of-a-Kind Nintendo DS Experience

REDMOND, Wash., May 19, 2010 - Launching in the United States on July 11, DRAGON QUEST® IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies™ for the Nintendo DS™ family of systems lets players enjoy an adventure that is entirely their own, yet can be shared with others anywhere, anytime. Developed by Square Enix Co., Ltd., this game has already become a phenomenon with players of all ages and backgrounds in Japan, with more than 4.2 million units sold.

Before setting off on their adventure, players can create their own heroes, deciding how they would like their face, hair and clothing to look. As the story unfolds, players become stronger, smarter and more powerful, and can customize companions who join their group. Players will have fun discovering more than 1,000 pieces of clothing, armor, weapons and other items that will provide them with a unique appearance and special abilities. Players can also change the class of their character at any time, choosing from a variety of vocations that will affect their abilities and strengths in the game.

In DRAGON QUEST IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies, players begin their adventure as a city guardian who is sent to retrieve a sacred tree's fruits, which have the power to grant wishes. Players travel the world, conquer fearsome monsters and unravel an epic storyline. During their journey, players will encounter mighty opponents in fast-paced battles, and also interact with a colorful cast of characters.

DRAGON QUEST IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies contains special modes that let players share their adventure with others, allowing up to four players to team up via a local wireless connection and experience the fun of tackling challenging monsters and dungeons cooperatively with their own characters. Players can even leave the game active in their backpacks, pockets or purses and still interact with other players via an interactive "Tag Mode." Information about players' characters can be wirelessly transmitted to others, and treasure maps and customized greetings can be exchanged automatically by players who come within range of one another when their games are set to Tag Mode.

Players looking to enjoy a variety of different game activities can take on special side quests. Some of these quests will be earned by progressing through the game, while additional quests will be made available for free download for players with broadband Internet access after the game launches, providing hours of additional content for virtual adventurers to enjoy either on their own or with friends. Some downloadable quests will continue the main storyline of the game, while others offer standalone missions.

"DRAGON QUEST IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies is one of the biggest games ever to hit Nintendo DS, with an incredible amount of content for every kind of player to enjoy," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. "This new game has all of the elements of an instant classic: customization options, a great story, and the ability to share a nearly limitless experience with friends."

What was the verdict on this game?
I enjoyed it a lot. As did john_tv, revenantkioku, and jonnyram. Duckroll and bebpo didn't like it so much. Aeana DNF.

The main game is pretty good on its own, if a bit easy, but what elevates the game is the post-game content. It's really unprecedented in terms of how much extra stuff is in there.

Damn. I still have to play DQIV and V. *sob*

Could you elaborate on the post-game content a bit?

Shiggy made a thread about EU release dates a while ago and apparently DQIX will launch on July 23.

The thread said June...the guy who told me about it doesn't seem to know the difference between July and June, I can only apologise for that.

Totally missed that. Maybe I'll get the US version and paly it earlier.

Have they decided what they were going to do with the online content ?
Can't see the tag mode being too popular in NA, so IMO they should make everything accessible from the start.

Reviews everywhere were mixed (not just in JP), but I liked it.
For me personally, way better than VII, and somewhat VIII (other than graphics).
Tad too easy for me, but it's still considered more challenging than the last two.

As Segata said, I didn't finish the game, but I went through some crappy personal stuff at the time which kept me from ever feeling like picking it up again. I didn't like its implementation of the job system, but otherwise, it's pretty good. I'll pick up the English version and try to go all the way this time.

The European box has the IX on it? Assuming it's final of course, Won't this be the first DQ to be released in Europe with the number intact?

Yes, yes.... Yes! :D

That's pretty soon, hmmm, import US copy or wait 2 weeks for PAL copy, considering US copy will probably take 7-10 days to arrive any way.

Edit: also, would the extra content be dependent on region in any way?

Yes, yes it will. Odd, but then again it's a new publisher!

Quite a surprise. I don't know, but I wasn't expecting this game until the fall.

I need to finish Etrian Odyssey, stat.

Ah, my last NDS-game :D (if Pokemon Black & White remains as disappointing as it is currently).

Question to those that played the JPN-version: Does the game succeed in creating an adventurous feeling, or is it your run-of-the-mill jrpg with running from cutscene to cutscene?

So the four-player multiplayer is local-only? ffs
Yes, which worked fine in Japan, but isn't going to go over well in the west at all. I wasn't able to try out multiplayer, either, since I had a Japanese copy and wasn't in Japan... also didn't get to try the passing mode for treasure map trading, either. It's really too bad, because I've heard those are pretty cool.

The game does use the actual wi-fi connection for DLC quests and the shopping center, though. I sure hope the DLC quests made it into the US version.

Finally! Been waiting for this for... years? Yes, years.

Still need to finish the final area in DQV, come to think of it.

Interesting date. It's a year to the day of the Japanese release. Can't wait for this. As sad as it sounds I'll possibly even book some time off work to play it :D
