Action RPG from Backbone.

CaVaYeRo said:
• Defined as Pokemon meets Tim Burton (I'd add RRR style mini games). Story driven action RPG.
• Build, experiment, explore, customize, fight...
• Help Professor Fuseless fighting the "bad monsters" that scare people
• Monster creation: lots of customization, 300 items, 150 monster parts (bio or mechanical). Parts include legs, arms, body, head...
• Wiimote and nunchuk creation process in form of minigames: wielding by pointing, "brain toss", etc: feels great, if you don't do well, your monster has worse abilities.
• Turn based fighting with your HP, attack, defense, energy points depending on your building process. Special attacks (transformations), you can choose which part to attack, you have to recharge your energy.
• In development since Nov 2006. Summer 2008 release.
• Adam Beechen script, Crispin Hands music
• They'll try online features (DC, photo sharing)

An original IP that isn't a spelling game from a western 3rd party, who knows, might be good!

Action RPG, using Wifi from backbone.

- They describe it as pokemon RPG gameplay with a Tim Burton artstyle.
- Uses wiimote (only?)
- 150 "types" of monsters, more then 100 million variations possible
- You can create/modify your own monsters
- Mechanical/biological/chemical monsters, each with their own strengths
- online battles and trading
- contains minigames (ahoy!)
- you can lose limbs/parts of your monster in battle
- monsters are built using "recipes" that you have to find/get. You will also need to find the right parts/ingrediënts to create the recipe/building plan
- dark cartoony artstyle
- June 2008 as current target date.

So you build little monsters and can get them to fight your friends monsters? Not for me but could be a cool game I guess.

yep, thats right. you can even fight online with your monsters, afair. a friend of mine has taken notes of the presantation, so either one of the big sites break the information, or i can give it to you in about 8 hours or so.

the combat is one on one round based like in some of the rpgs, not real time. you can decide which part of the body to attack and what kind of attack to use the more you attack the right arm, the more it gets damage and may fall off. eidos told us that its even possible that only your head is left over and still continues to fight.

about the 150 parts thing: i cant remember if it was 150 parts per section, so 150 hands, arms, feet, heads etc. or in total.

and the graphics look surprisingly good.

edit: seems that e-phonk has the rest of the information :D

Well, in that regard they precise that the "building" aspect of the game takes alot more place than the "breeding" of your monster.

Okay, I'm officially interested.

I'd add to that:

-- Developed by Backbone Entertainment (Death Jr)
-- Writing by comic writer, Adam Beechen
-- Make designs using the Wiimote to attach to your monsters
-- Play as one of three mad scientists: Professor Fuesless, mechanical expert; Dr Sandabar, biology specialist, or; Dr Tchesombra, chemistry expert
-- Wi-Fi compatible - show your monsters online and make them battle, or just trade pieces or monsters.
-- Battle system deeper than Pokemon but not as complex as other RPGs. You can destroy monsters piece by piece

yeah. others only did see a video presantation, cause they had some code problems till late thursday. thats where a new wii dev kit with the code came in from vancouver (?) and our appointment was. the guy on the left in the picture had a pretty scary voice, but thats because he was hoarse :D i was kinda scared at the beginning :)

so, they showed actual gameplay. they showed the labs and the frankenstein like lightning scene where the monster comes to life. in the level shown you met the mayor of the "city" it takes place and you had to fight one of his monsters or something like that. there was only one way to go, along a narrow stone path, where you met his monsters. no random encounters but also no possibilty to pass by. when they fought, after a couple of rounds, the game froze :D

Certainly sounds nice.

This is one of the Eidos game i have mentioned many times before.

Wait for Wii-support from Eidos - they have really great games (new IPs) in development. :D http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=7336162&postcount=270

I would not call this game a "kids" game. Maybe if you compare that game with others games from io interactive (which are famous for they m rated games)

Some infos (from my source):

The devolpenig of the game began early 2006

Release: 2008

You can call - if you see the game - a highlight of 2008.

It is not a kids-game like Dewey but the game is for the whole family - like a Zelda game.

They are other Wii Eidos games in development.

Monster Lab is not the Eidos from Io-Interactive. This game is more like a Adventure game.

So more games are to come? More awesome games?

They picked a good day to unveil it... Wii owners are happy today because it's a day of reviews and a possible pick up of MP3. A sensory overload of awesomeness and a perfect time to inject others things into the field of interest.

(given that they are worthwhile, which this seems to be)
