For example:

The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lyu1KKwC74

Plan B - The Recluse: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5TxIynodew&feature=player_detailpage#t=39s

Vampire Weekend - M79: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6IgT9UruWe8

Anyone have anymore? I'm looking more for pop/rock with violins in the background rather than just pure violin songs...

Not really sure if I would call those "pop songs", but ok.

Blackout and Exogenesis Symphony by Muse.

Maybe a bit too slow/downbeat based on your three picks, though.

I said 'pop' rather than 'rock' because pop is more inclusive of genres. Whereas if I said rock in the title and then put up a video of ANYTHING people would be like 'dat shit aint rock thats just indie/rap/pop etc' and the thread would fall into disarray.

I want to say 'Common People' by Pulp has some violins in but I can't remember for sure. Certainly some of the tracks on 'Different Class' do.

any type of song/music with violins turns out great. Thats why I took up the violin when I was younger.

Annoyingly, the only songs I really love that have been posted up in this thread are ones I already know like Masterplan, Muse stuff, and the Massive Attack one. Andrew Bird was pretty good though.

I thought of this song before even opening the thread.
That's because it's one of the best songs ever written. Pity they never made a penny from it.

i dont think pop songs and great should be in the same sentence...

Pop is a diverse open genre, you should educate yourself more on music than use such ignorant statements.

This one is a little different but the violin is pretty prominent: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtpSidPN3jQ

Pretty much any Andrew Bird would be worth checking out as well.

Good examples, I love the opening of Young Bride. I could also say this is true for many songs that has a flute opening "Kingfish Pies" by the same band.
Everyone should check out Andrew Morgan.

A very underrated artist with a chamber pop style with a lot of violin uses.

Dirty Projectors - Two Doves has some nice violin complimenting the song

He's probably in the 'Pop SUCKS!' phase everybody reaches when they get hair on their nuts. It will pass.
