Unexpectedly amazing (recent) soundtracks.

- "Kakkoi!" by Romain Gauthier
- "Jupiter" by Simon Perin and Jeremie Perin
- "Voyage Géométrique" by Simon Perin and Jeremie Perin
- "The Shameful Last Minute" by Romain Gauthier

Some very good stuff here. It looked like a fun little Steam puzzle game (which it is), but the OST ended up being the best thing about it IMO. First and fourth tracks are probably my favourites.

Jamestown music really surprised me. Very good game.

Edit: also Mushroom Men ost is awesome, both the Les Claypool and the awesome metronome System by Bl33k

Mutant Mudds has a really great soundtrack. And a few Mighty Switch Tracks are awesome, if you like electronic music that is.

My two favorite choices from 2012 so far. Both unexpected and awesome.

Mutant Mudds OST - World 1-2
Mutant Mudds OST - Grannie's Attic
Mighty Switch Force - Love You Love You Love

Name your price/full stream for Mutant Mudds: http://renegadekid.bandcamp.com/album/mutant-mudds-ost
And Mighty Switch Force: http://virt.bandcamp.com/album/mighty-switch-force-ost

Sword and Sworcery for iPhone, don't own the game but own the soundtrack there.
Super Meat Boy is another one, no matter how many retries I had, never grew tired of any track.
Oh and Scott Pilgram too, only played bit of the game but picked up soundtrack.

Not sure if it's in line with your definition of "unexpected" but it should be fine since Nier is in the OP. Ghost Trick; the ost is godly.

Wanna hear a good joke? Waste your time helping me! LOL!
Definitely Sigma Harmonics on the DS.

It's a title made by SE and never made it out of Japan featuring music by Masashi Hamauzu himself. (I do consider the DS still relevant) It's definitely one of the more unknown soundtracks out there due to not only it's lack of localization, but also because it was a very niche game (that I enjoyed a ton!) that didn't push many units.

Awww yeah, glad someone else posted this. I've never even played the game, but the soundtrack is AMAZING.

I know this game is old, but if there's one thing Ubisoft got right with Red Steel 1, it's the soundtrack.

Katana Giri Theme - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vu7igA7ZxM

Thankful Miyu (It's like Japanese porno music) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHYEcsWYhBU&feature=related

Yeah, I remember liking the soundtrack to red steel more than the game.

Know I'm gonna get laughed for this, but I'm really digging the Tribes: Ascend soundtrack, specifically the menu and victory music. Makes me want to salute something every time I hear em.

Wow, this OST is really, really good. I've never played the mod, but I've read that it doesn't make that much use of the OST which is unfortunate. The right developer could craft some amazing moments/scenes alongside this stuff.

Download all the flac tracks and listen, its really good.

Im surprised someone hasnt snatched him up for a retail game by now.

Don't really like most game music and hearing Still Alive in every trailer was pretty annoying, but the actual score by Solar Fields was fantastic and fit the game's world superbly.

Best soundtrack of the generation. THERE I SAID IT.

But unlike you, I don't think I'll ever tire of hearing still alive.

Asura's Wrath

I wouldn't say unexpected, because I liked the music of the Naruto Storm games, but it's still great.

And also NOWHERE to be found

No uploads of any of the music on Youtube

I'm still annoyed that this never got a CD release. Probably my most played and favourite soundtrack this generation, behind NeoTokyo and just in front of ODST.

It's an excellent soundtrack and easily one of the best video game soundtracks of all time, but it did come out some time ago.

Deus HR, Xenoblade & Ghost Trick have got to be some of my favourite soundtracks that have come out in the last year. Unexpected was Touch my Katamari, which I felt had a few standout tracks. Shame I can't seem to find the menu track being played anywhere on youtube....

While a really unexpected one, but not very recent (recent for me, since i played the new PC version):
Bully's.

Seriously outstanding soundtrack, dammit.
You beat me to it. Not that I've played Bully but was rather "why are people talking about its soundtr...OH MY GOD and its not licensed either". Videogames-wise the composer Shawn Lee, also did some of the tracks in The Gataway game.

I'm not sure I understand, what was unexpected about Yoko Shimomura doing what she is good at? Or was it more you would not expect someone like Yoko Shimomura to work on such a game?

I know this game is old, but if there's one thing Ubisoft got right with Red Steel 1, it's the soundtrack.
Oh man, is this going to be one of those games I play for the soundtrack? I need to get out of this thread...
