That my second topic with a list of the next games for Wii. I feel the need to create this second topic for 3 reasons: 1 - Many Wii owner don’t know the good games that will come in the next years, 2- the amusing announces of October and 3 – my first topic not become good.

NMH2, CvsT, Monster Hunter 3 and Pikmin 3 are sure to deliver, but I wouldn't dance myself to stupor just yet for the rest of the games...

I guess if you like Japanese games it's good...?

I can't say a single game on that list looks good. Even Madworld.

By the way that Red Steel 2 screenshot is a Red Steel 1 concept pic.

Pretty disappointing list if you ask me, nothing that interest me. Best year of the wii will forever be 2007 with SMG and Metroid Prime.

You know, I came here to troll Wii's game selection but you are actually right. The 2009 lineup is inspiring, and finally they are finding their own style like DS did - with Punch Out, Another Code, Mad World, Sin & Punishment and such.

That said, no way Pikmin 3 is 2009. I wish.

Wow so many trolls in this thread already.

So Japanese games aren't good anymore?

Many Japanese third party support the Wii and the haters come in saying that is not good enough.

So what do people want? Only EA, Activision and Ubi games?

Only Nintendo games?

There are 6 games from that list I'm interested in. Fairly solid lineup considering 2009 isn't even here yet and fall 2008 is an utter wasteland for the Wii.

Will definitely buy these:

Mad World
Sin & Punishment 2
Punch-Out
House of the Dead Overkill
Overlord Dark Legend
The Conduit
Wii sports resort
Pikmin 3

The others are wait and see.

About 18 titles on that list are almost certain buys for me. So yeah, pretty good year.

It's still lacking in the western game and big franchise department though.

you hate games?

Some of these are a bit of a stretch to label as great games, but yeah 2009 looks good. Can't be much worse than this year anyway

Shit, I don't like Japanese games. I must be a troll!

I find Japanese games pretty damn shit and boring to be honest. Times that by 10 for JRPG's(Chrono Trigger excluded). I'm just saying, the Wii has shit all unless you like Japanese games and it's true. At least with 360 and kind of PS3, you have a mixture of both.

You must have a pretty narrow taste in games to not like any of this list.

there are a bunch of nice filler games in that list, but nothing screams must have / big budget. For the console leader in its third year this list paints a pretty sore picture.

I guess this is why I don't own a Wii. If this is going to be the best year ever...I don't see much on that list that does it for me. :(

It's a great year. LOADS of original IPs/unique games, and I don't know what kind of games the haters are expecting. It's not exactly 'sole console' material, but justifies having a Wii alongside my 360.

It will have to do better than that to convince me.

I'm still curious about what the Wii Motion+ will bring to future games.

How? It's also all Japanese games, which have barely changed in the last 10 years. I mean come on there are 8 JRPG's on that list. They're just...boring. The gameplay drags on, the story is stupid, the characters are bland, the voice acting is god awful.
Chrono Trigger is better than any of them and it's 15 years old. That's like saying Doom is better than Halo 3 or Resistance 2.
In my opinion Japan has fallen way behind in terms of advancements(excluding some like SMG and MGS4 but how many of those are there?).

Actually, Pikmin 3 will be good.

2009 is when I buy a Wii for Sin & Punishment 2, MadWorld and Muramasa. But the rest of the list is pretty uninspiring..

But Capcom vs Tatsunoko isnt coming out in the west, so you'd best remove it from the list?

You people really think this isn't a fairly solid line-up? Really? Do you people only like FPSes or something?

Either you have a really broad sense of JRPGs, or you're just incredibly ignorant.

Uhh we know close to nothing about most of the games in that list. They look like titles that could be ok or whatever, but nothing really sparks any interest in them AT THIS MOMENT. Nothing about them is "solid".

Then there are those few very promising games as stated in many posts already, but they really aren't enough for a whole goddamn YEAR.

And wasn't NMH2 a 2010 title?

I just counted how many the OP named RPG's.
Uninformed then. I'd say the only "classic" JRPGs are Tales of, Arc Rise Fantasia and arguably Kizuna. Fragile has about as much in common with Arc Rise Fantasia, as Deus Ex has with Baldur's Gate.

Several of these titles are already out in Japan, have been playable at TGS, been featured in many magazines before, have good studios behind them, etc.

wow looks like iam gonna sell my wii
Why do I get the feeling you don't even have a Wii?

i don't own a Wii but about 40 percent of the list interests me, which is pretty impressive considerin the Wii hasn't tempted me at all in the past year or so

Next year's Wii list looks better than every Wii, PS3, and 360 year since launches of the respective consoles.

I put it about on par with 360 this year and PS3 this year. (SF4 and RE5 BAYBEE)

If you call me crazy for stating that then all of you are crazy for dismissing this list. Different tastes, don't knock it.

Yeah sorry i don't follow the "OH HAY A BIG BUDGET SHOOTER GOTY" mindset.

Kilrogg

paid requisite penance
Reading some of the replies here, I see why some would say that Japanese developers are behind overall (and not just in the tech department): there seems to be a divide between those who like Western games only, and those who like Japanese games exclusively. The former are seemingly more inclined to dismiss Japanese developers entirely, even though they're not less original than many Western developers. The fact that the Wii enjoys an almost exclusively Japanese library whereas the 360 (and the PS3 to a lesser extent) are heavily favoured by Western developers only makes matters worse.

I myself have a preference for Japanese games, and certainly I don't have any Western games on my Wii (except Lost Winds), but I'd really like it if Western developers gave it a try. I have yet to play de Blob, but I'm not even sure this game would be it for me.

I can understand why you would not be enthusiastic about the Wii's 2009 lineup, just as I'm completely indifferent towards, say, the 360 lineup. Even the Japanese games on that thing try so hard to resemble Western games that I just can't bother (or they're RPGs, but RPG is Japanese word for FPS, really :p). To me, the 360 and the Wii appear more and more to be polar opposites.

I have to agree that the list is a Japan game lovers dream, but can be hard for the more westernized players to get excited about. Monster Hunter 3 is intriguing... I'll wait for average review scores between 8 and 10. The conduit needs to remind a bunch of people of Metroid Prime 3 to pique my interest. I want to go easy on the Wii, as I've got one under my TV, but I want more Mario Galaxy, less young girl (or is it boy?) with blue / green hair and questionable art style saving world from GARGANUAN COSMIC MONSTER INTERRUPTING SUPER HAPPY FUN TIME!!! Graphics whores are spoiled brats. We admit it. Sorry.

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
Considering that I only bought 2 games for Wii in 2008 it's a given that 2009 will be better, but best year?? The jury's still out on that one with Nintendo keeping everyone quite on Wii titles until last minute.

BTW, there is so much wrong information in the OP, you should not have bothered to list the publisher/developer. :\

A lot of people are calling "Troll" very quickly here but I don't think it's unfair to say the OP is being overly optimistic when he padded that list with certain games. Tenchu? A Sega developed party game? Besides Trace Memory, Tales, and the Vanillaware game there aren't many sure-fire games on there for me. And you're fairly unlikely to get Pikmin next year either guys. Miyamoto making a passing mention of a Pikmin game being worked on in an unrelated conference is hardly a firm answer on when it'll come out and what it'll be like.

You forgot Endless Ocean 2.

But I disagree about best wii year ever...

Yea, I don't think it is the best year ever of the Wii, it doesn't have any huge game for Nintendo for that matter, and not talking huge as in Wii Sports 2, but as in Mario Galaxy.

Even so the year, third party wise, it is indeed the best with huge Japanese support .
There is a notable lack of western games in the list, but that's because we don't know what western developers have prepared for 2009 besides what's in the OP and the yearly franchises.

I'm only interested on a few of those games, and some of them might not even break the average barrier, but some others could well become sleeper hits. Either way I'm not dismissing the games just because they are for Wii, or worst yet, Japanese.

By the way, BDGame, are all the games listed here scheduled for release in the US/Europe? You listed Tatsunoko vs. Capcom as a "TBA 2009" for instance, but is it official?

You should do the following if you ask me:
*create a separate categories for games about which we don't know if they'll be released outside of Japan;
*specify whether they're a 2009 release for the US, Europe or both.

Otherwise, great thread :).

[EDIT] typhonsentra: I wouldn't have added some of the games here, so I can see where you're coming from. That said, I think the point is not to show that there are tons of AAA-games coming in 2009, but that there's a significant increase in third-party games in different genres. A good chunk of the games in the list will end up being shit or disappointing (same for the other systems), but I think it can't be argued that significant efforts and thought seem to be put in some of these games. I wouldn't dismiss Let's Tap so quickly though, as it seems polish and makes use of the Wiimote in a different way. For that alone, I'd say "wait and see".

Besides Tatsunoko vs. Capcom and Klonoa it's a pretty mixed bag for me. JP fans should be happy though. Tenchu though? Really? That Bleach game looks on par with the PSP versions too. Blargh. Haruhi? :lol

But hey, compared to this year, anything resembling actual 3rd party support is an upgrade.

lacks bald-space marines, sports, racing, and western rpgs. :p

not sure how many will be a-games but i'd guess a lot will be solid b-games. i'll probably end up buying quite of a few of these games, actually.

Treasure did not develop Punch-Out.
Cosmic Walker is developed by Gaia.
"Jinx" is not a company, Trace Memory R is developed by Cing.
Arc Rise Fantasia is developed by Image Epoch, not "Epoch".
Rune Factory Frontier is developed by Neverland, not Marvelous.
"Little King Story" is actually named Little King's Story
Dynamic Slash is developed by Sadlot
Fatal Frame 4 is absolutely not confirmed for any kind of stateside publication, and certainly not by Nintendo.
The Calling is not TBA 2009; it hasn't even confirmed to be an actual in-development game versus just a concept pitch.
Sky Crawlers is not confirmed for localization.
Spawn Smasher is published by Nintendo.
"Takt of Magic" is neither published by Ubisoft nor developed by Taito.
"Tales of Mothership" is not a tentative title; Namco is using the word "Mothership" to describe important 1st tier "Tales of" games.
Pikmin 3 is not TBA 2009, it's TBA.
That's not a picture from Red Steel 2.
You have no publishers listed for the two sports games that are clearly published by EA.
"Renegade Kid's Dracula" is not the actual name of the game. It's also not a code-name. It's also clearly developed by Renegade Kid.

I think it's fair to say the post has padding, but Tenchu was well received amongst importers and domestic Japanese buyers who enjoyed the series before now, and Let's Tap was pretty universally well received at TGS. It's also not "Sega developed".

What gets me is that people are doggin' on this list, but gush all over the PS3/360 list. The Wii guys aren't allowed to gush over the games that they think will be good? No one can let them have their lists without a bunch of hate being thrown around? Seems like some kind of double standard going on.
