Shortly after the release of The Last Of Us, gamers owning the EU version started heated discussions claiming that there's still censorship going on. They specifically referred to the multiplayer mode, in which it was allegedly impossible to dismember enemies and also that the amound of blood spurts was reduced.

This is news to me. I have a UK copy and just thought that dismemberment wasn't possible in the multiplayer all together. Really bizarre that they removed it.

I've not bothered going into multiplayer, but of all the things they could have censored, this bothers me the least. If you're playing multiplayer for the gore and not for the game itself, you're doing it wrong.

I can understand it seems a little weird being absent from just online play though.

hm i think i have decapited a few people in mp and i am in Eu. is this for a specific country perhaps? Although i am not entire sure.

even more so when the single player is untouched.
there has to be some legal drumming going on.

Can't have human females dismembered mate.

This doesn't really bother me. I never got the impression that I was playing some censored version while playing MP.

I agree wholeheartedly. In my opinion, this detracts virtually nothing. I am however, mildly against censorship (Where none exists in the US, at least) on principle.

Really? Unless it's with a machete execution (Because I've barely used machetes) I don't think it's possible. I've played the UK multiplayer for about 25 hours now, and I've never dismembered or decapitated anybody (That's a strange sounding sentence).

LAWL. Makes you wonder how these people think when imagining possible controversy scenarios.

"So why should we censor this game's multiplayer?"
"Well, you, as an adult, could buy the game to play single player...but your 8 year old sister might come in and want to play multiplayer with you and you couldn't say no?"
"Yeah definitely, that's a very likely scenario. Let's censor this bitch."

Isn't this to take into consideration some German law? All their violent multiplayer games are neutered. Can't have blood must be flowers in TF2 for example, maybe it was easier to implement a wider censor than for just one country?

Censoring is still nonsense be it in games, movies or anything else.

That's really dumb. I'm enjoying the multiplayer but it irks me I'm not getting the same experience as players outside the EU. Are you able to play cross-region? Would players in the same game in different regions see different levels of gore?

The thing is that there's no check list for publishers, which makes it hard for them to implement or cut what's necessary. Sometimes things won't be a problem and other times they are, it's really bad. For example, the +10 pop-ups in Call of Duty 4 were no problem at all - for some reason they weren't in World at War. They were back in the games after that one. There's no way for anyone to know when something is okay and when it isn't. That's my main problem with the law.
The law is in place, which sucks, but every country censors everything if it doesn't comply with the law.

I wouldn't be surprised if this game did not get rejected at first (in Germany) but they just wanted to play it safe. Seems to me like this happens a lot.

It is censored. SCEE just admitted it.

Well back in the days they cut TMNT because of the Brits and their stupid "Asian weapons are bad" policy.
Europe and Australia have some strange policies regarding violence in video games ...

the country that brought us such amazing websites like german goo girls doesn't like violence or degradation :(

ahhh...Thats what it is...I was watching a couple of matches online and I noticed that some players, when executed loose body parts while in other videos they dont. Kinda sucks though.

Tell me: where is the adult industry bigger: in the US or Germany?

(I'm not German, btw.)

I thought it was funny that "the amount of blood spurts was reduced" when you've got porn where 15 guys spurt their loads all over a few women and that's ok as long as you're old enough :)

As for your question, no idea, don't care, never will.

Fucks sake, Sony. Patch the UK version at least. I was wondering why the gore in multiplayer seemed somewhat neutered compared with the SP. It's not the 90s anymore, no one wants fucking pointless censorship for 18+ rated games.

Just the censor the german version please instead of every single fuckin EU country. It's the same as Gearbox editing some death animations in Borderlands 2 for the whole world. Bleh.

Ok, and I guess you assume because some German decided to try and make money out of such a website that every German watches that stuff all day and think it's awesome, whereas no American ever visits that site? :)

Similarly I could argue that a boob on NBC can cause national outrage in the US, whereas mass killings in schools by underaged with military weapons still makes NRA reject more restrictive sales conditions of said weapons.

There's no real point in comparing a country's attitude towards adult entertainment on the one hand and violence with weapons otherwise.

As long as the gameplay remains unchanged this is great. I don't like gore porn in games.

It's the principle of the thing more so than anything. I paid £40 for this game, I don't like it being censored to comparison to other countries versions, especially when it's not my country with the problems in regards to it.

Apparently i was wrong. I thought it was in executions but probably was in the single game.

I didn't know this. I thought the game was fairly brutal as is, like bashing skulls in and making headshots on succumbed enemies from close range.

Now I have seen this, I want the gore too!

Why the fuck?

Patch it in ffs ND, I'm not living in germany. The other EU countries shouldn't miss out on dismemberment because of one country. Sweden here.

Why is this thread the first i'm hearing of this? ND and Sony should be completely upfront with any region specific censorship their doing. Maybe it would be bad PR but this just comes across as dishonest.

This seriously pisses me off, I hate censorship in general and I really liked the dismemberment in the singleplayer. It just really sucks that we have to miss out on it, especially when it isn't needed in most countries and the german copies probably still have dismemberment in the singleplayer too.

FIX THIS SHIT GG... err, ND!

This is bullshit, if Sony are going to keep doing this I want to see them put a sticker on the box that says 'Editied version' or something. Then i'll just import from the US.

Wow I didn't know this.
Time to import US version.
That sucks a lot. I can't stand be a EU member, specially when is ruled by a country like Germany.
