Capcom secret Wii project still coming (It wasn't Spyborgs)

Based off a next-gen fave title

Thought Spyborgs was Capcom's "or something like that" title? Think again, they're cooking up something else entirely.

Late last month, we reported that Capcom were planning a Wii title similar to Lost Planet and Bionic Commando which would be announced over the coming weeks. Shortly after our story, Capcom announced the madcap Saturday morning TV style title Spyborgs, leading us to believe that Spyborgs was indeed the mysterious "or something like that" title. How wrong we were.

Issue #25 of NGamer Magazine features a very small preview of Spyborgs, with an enigmatic quote nestled within. "There's a bullet with our name on it if we speak of their ultra top secret Wii title (a surprising take on a next-gen favourite), so we'll stick to the safer, though still intruiging, Spyborgs."

A new take on a next-gen favourite? Bionic Commando and Lost Planet are definite possibilities then. Just to get you salivating like a rabid dog over the possibilities, we hear Devil May Cry 4, Street Fighter IV, Resident Evil 5 and Dead Rising have quite a fan following as well.

And since I posted this, mite as well add in NGamer scores

Super Smash Brothers Brawl - 93
Lego Indiana Jones - 80
Soul Bubbles - 79
Dementium - 80
Top Spin 3 - 60
We Love Golf - 77
Big Beach Sports - 59
Speed Racer - 49
Iron Man - 41
Doodle Hex - 77
River King - 44
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers - 45
Yume Neko DS - 70
Drone Tactics - 65
Dungeon of Windaria - 55
Looney Tunes Cartoon Concerto - 69
Guru Guru - 62
Heracles No Eikou - 64
Street Football - 12
Pro Yakyuu Team O - ??
That's OT - 66

WiiWare:
Lost Winds - 4
Star Soldier - 3
TV Show King - 3
FF: CC - 5
Toki Tori - 4
Pop - 3
Defend Your Castle - 2
VIP Casino - 1
Critter Round Up - 2
Dr Mario - 2

Hmm..its not MM9 then.

"Next gen favorite" implies a game already released on 360/PS3 to me..perhaps a Dead Rising or Lost Planet spin off?

Interesting. I wonder why they wouldn't have shown it off at Captivate? I'd assume (perhaps wrongly) that it's going to be one of the two unnamed titles at E3 next month though, so here's to hoping!

Either that or devs have begun using "next gen" as a general synonym for "hardcore" :/

If that's the case, then MM9 is a possibility. But I'm thinking maybe it's RE5 or something.

(a surprising take on a next-gen favourite)

SPIN OFF SPIN OFF SPIN OFF SPIN OFF SPIN OFF SPIN OFF

So Wii DMC ? Wii RE ?

Well, the fact that it's a "surprising take" means that they actually did some research on the title, instead of throwing one of their franchises and add waggle, which can only mean good things. I'm all for devs reinventing their franchises.

long shot, but "next gen favourite" could be referring to a genre (and if that be the case - it'll most likely be FPS)

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
Resident Evil Soccer.

Listen GAF. If you think "a surprising take on a next-gen favorite" means anything other than "disappointing spinoff with waggle," you are really setting yourselves up for disappointment.

I hope I'm wrong, but 3rd-parties really haven't proved anything on the Wii at all. Originals have been great, the ports have been good to below-average, but the spinoffs have been complete trash and we all know it.

Sadly true. But maybe it'll buck the trend and not suck.

Out of all the 3rd parties so far, I'd say Capcom is most deserving of people's faith:

RE4 while a port was probably the most well done port yet.

RE:UC turned into a solid project

Zack and Wiki is probably the most acclaimed 3rd party original game (along with Boom Blox)

Okami was brought to Wii even though it was very difficult to do so

And Monster Hunter 3, a legitimately big franchise in Japan is a Wii exclusive.

I guess my point is, even a Capcom "spin off" has the potential to be very good.

A hell of a thing to say about the best 3rd party on the Wii. It is the case with 99% of the Wii third parties, but you really need to not let that stop you from giving that lonely 1% the credit it deserves here. Capcom has done right by the Wii moreso than any of the others, And even the spin off UC was decent. If there were ever a 3rd party you should actually GET a little hope for its them.

I wouldn't be surprised it turns out to be an on-rail shooter.

How could Bionic Commando be a next-gen favorite when it hasn't even released yet? Lost Planet or Dead Rising are definitely the front-runners.

Imagine: Next-Gen Gamez
Features characters and locations of games as Dead Rising or Resident Evil 5 in an all-new party-game with intuitive waggle controls to offer the Wii owner glimpses of the real games never appearing on his own console.

a few people are saying lost planet .. but i'm just thinking that it is odd for them to choose to say they were planning a title "similar to lost planet and bionic commando" if they were talking about lost planet itself

What other next-gen title is similar to those two games?

They didn't say that, I'm pretty sure. The text within the quotation marks is NGamers, the rest is probably from a website or something.

Edit: Or not. I don't really understand the context of the quote to be honest.
