One week to go until the All Formats Christmas Chart and the top 3 games are all non-movers, with sales of ‘Call of Duty: World at War’ rising by 2%, ‘Mario Kart Wii’ sales up by 1% and ‘FIFA 09’ sales down 1%.

The gap between Call of Duty at No1 and Mario Kart Wii at No2 is 27,000 units, leaving Nintendo with it all to do in the coming week in order to claim what would be the Japanese giant’s first Christmas No1 since N64 ‘Zelda Ocarina of Time’ 10 years ago. If Activision Blizzard can hold on to the No1 spot for another week they will claim the longest uninterrupted All Formats chart topping run-in for a Christmas No1, with 6 consecutive weeks. Sales of the Top 6 games are relatively flat, meaning a 3% rise in sales for ‘Need for Speed: Undercover’ is enough to drive it up one place to No4, while a 3% drop in ‘Brain Training’ sales pushes it down one place to No5. The price-promoted ‘Fallout 3’ is still a Top 10 contender with sales up 6%, rising from No7 to No6. Nintendo still have 4 Top 10 games with ‘Wii Play’ up 16% in sales, up from No9 to No7 and ‘Wii Fit’ (-5%) holding at No8. ‘Guitar Hero: World Tour’ is on song this week, sales up 18%, rising from No10 to No9, while ‘Tomb Raider: Underworld’ almost slips out of the Top 10, down from No6 to No10.

As is normal for this week of the year there are no new entries that make the Top 40, but outside the All Formats Top 10 there are several strong climbers, including the bundled ‘Lego Indiana Jones’ (+31%) up from No13 to No11, ‘Sonic Unleashed’ (+87%) up from No33 to No12, the competitively priced ‘Quantum of Solace’ (+53%) up from No27 to No13 and ‘LittleBigPlanet’ up from No29 to No16 (sales up 58%, handing it No1 in the PS3 Chart ahead of CoD).

Also, I'm just baffled that Pro Evo has dropped off the face of the earth in the UK. I guess FIFA is here to stay.

Wow, £20 LBP 4 weeks after launch really worked.

In actual fact, all the games that had bumps have had major price drops at retail. There's a huge shock for everyone.

Good. How much longer will it take until Konami realise they have to create a new engine or at least stop 'upgrading' last gen assets.

Holy crap LittleBigPlanet!!

Yay!

Shows the difference some good TV marketing can do. I saw two LBP ads in one ad break last night, which is something I only saw of DS and Wii ads before.

Hopefully they keep marketing it going forward, it deserves it.

Looks like a mix of price cuts, advertising campaign, and good word of mouth has lifted LittleBigPlanet up quite a bit.

Lips on the way up too which is surprising.

Platform split:
Wii = 13
360 = 12
DS = 8
PS3 = 6
PC = 1

Didnt it go down in price like 2-3 weeks ago or something? It didnt seem to reflect that much in the charts then. Or did it go even further down in price?

Well its 7th in the by value chart so must be there on merit, the ad campaign must have helped

That explains it.. :(

It's pretty full price most places I've looked. I've seen temporary deals in a couple of places, but I've seen the same for Fable 2, Fallout 3 and more.

It's down to the big increase in TV marketing the last couple of weeks, and hopefully word of mouth too I guess.

So, after two weeks of no charting it is safe to say Prince of Persia bombed really hard. I hope they continue the series though, as they could really build of the idea they started in the reboot.

The TV ad campaign must have helped yes, it's quite good set of ads too, but everywhere I've been it's been dropped to around the £20 - £25 mark, which obviously helps spur sales too. I would speculate that the price drop affected the sales more significant than the ads, but they both go hand in hand really.

Overall I'm just happy LBP is in the hands of more consumers, regardless of the ins and outs or sales.

Yeah, I was being a little facetious, but price drop + advertising = sales is hardly surprising.

Amazing that with all of the advertising I've seen for Singstar ABBA it's dropped out the charts while new IP Lips has climbed dramatically.

£30 is the absolute lowest I've seen at Amazon and Asda. Everywhere else (GAME, GameStation, HMV) are at £40.

Seems Ubisoft games live and die by the quality of the commercial they produce for them.

Every bundle my local GAME has for PS3 includes LBP, and Chart Track counts Bundled games too, so there's that also. Combine that with the massive price slash and yes, that explains it I should think. Good for MM though.

I have seen temporary deals, but it doesn't tally with what I've seen on this side of the water (Ireland). It doesn't really tally with the 'by value' chart either.

The bigger TV advertising kicked in about three weeks ago. We saw a reasonably good bump the week before as that started (and there was some discounting and bundling going on in that week too), and a much bigger then last week.. I think that's mostly what it's down to.

I'd been hoping LBP would just even hold its position after the previous charts..wasn't expecting such a big bump at all.

Yeah. I asked in the earlier thread what the best selling non-bundled software worldwide is, because I think Mario Kart could beat it.

I'm on the ps3 browser so can't reply properly, but both game and gs had it for 20 along with play, shopto, blockbuster and tesco.

I'm surprised pacific rift didn't chart I got that for 20.

Where is it £20? LBP is about £30 on Amazon.co.uk, about £39 at game.co.uk and about £40 at Play.com :\ It seems that there is free shipping at Play.com, unfortunately i dont know if there is free shipping at Amazon.co.uk and/or at Game.co.uk as well. For £20 i might pick up an extra copy so i have both the european and the american version (the game should be identical though, but i am thinking mostly for collection purposes :)).

EDIT: I see that someone have already answered. Was it just a 1 week (or a few days) promotion at around £20 or is it still possible to get it for that price?

Both Fable II and Fallout 3 had similar large jumps based on being discounted as well, so it's not unusual. Will indeed be interesting to see if the sales hold if/when it's not on special.

Brilliant for LBP. Fully deserved. The advertising kicking in has worked really well it seems and got the name out there to people outside the hardcore gamer.

LBP for Xmas no.1 ;)

I picked up a PS3 for this game :p

Course the sytem itself cost me about $200(and 8 old 360 games) after I went nuts on an EBGames trade in deal a Bestbuy pricematch and a little entrepreneurship :D

The game is still full price over here in the Conlonies however and the sales reflect that : (

Prince of Persia is No. 20 in the All Formats chart, at least it sold better this week that some exclusive games like Animal Crossing and Resistance 2
