Fox News falls for Youtube troll posing as Antifa in interview hoax

Fox News attempted to tap into the recent Antifa craze when reporter Jesse Watters interview what they believed to be an Antifa activist. Instead they fell for a hoax by a youtuber known as BG Kumbi.

BG Kumbi has been on youtube since 2012 and has been known for intentionally baiting various internet communities for years. He became first well known for attacking the website 4chan, claiming to have declared war on them in the name of the controversial meme sharing website 9gag. In other videos he declared war on the largest youtube Pewdiepie. Some of his videos include titles like “I got put in the Special Needs Class because I wore a Trash Bag to School” and “Bernie Sanders tried to rape me”

Before the interview Kumbi made a video declaring himself an Antifa member which was quite obviously meant to satirize Antifa such as when he bragged that he punched a skinhead near a cancer ward. And during the interview Kumbi completely shows his face contrary to Antifas tactic of concealing their identity and has a printed out picture of Karl Marx in the background. He claimed right-wing infiltrators firebombed the Limousine of a Muslim immigrant and called the horse that almost got stabbed by Antifa members a racist Trump supporter.

Kumbi has since posted the interview on his channel getting praise in the comments for the level of trolling that he committed. This hoax seems to once again show the clear gap between mainstream media and internet culture. Either way this has certainly become one of the biggest troll hoaxes since the SJW parody Twitter account Godfrey Elfwick was invited to discuss Star Wars on BBC.

Trolling aside (I also lost my shit at the framed Marx photograph), what's the point of interviewing someone if you're just gonna interrupt and/or mock them every time they say anything?

Clearly you're not familiar with the Fox News School of No-Spin Interviewing.

Fox News makes it a habit of interviewing "both sides" and selecting random idiot protesters or batshit students to represent the opposing viewpoint. It's a media tactic used to point the entirety of an opposing political viewpoint in whatever shade they like. They'd never invite someone like a college professor or Noam Chomsky for example, they're too good at defending themselves. It's not about equal representation, it's about building and supporting a narrative over a sustained period of time. It keeps people tuned in over time because they begin treating their news stories like some sort of serialized television series.

I'm trying to get a read on the guy, and it seems like he is one of those alt-right morons? What's his endgame here?

They won't care, this caricature is all they need to give that 70 year old Trump supporter watching at home feel good about their decision to support Trumpism.

Now that the word Antifa is becoming a bit en vogue in the US, maybe it's time to pronounce it right.
It has "Anti" in it so pronounce it like any other word with that prefix. Not An'tifa.

How is this trolling? This wasn't even funny... this guy has an interview with possibly the biggest clown on fox, jessie the dumb fucking elf waters and this is the best he could do on air?

This is basically my takeaway. It's not like they're gonna issue a redaction or update. They're gonna roll with this and use it as ammo against the left.

You can't really troll assholes who rely on caricature to make their points by being a caricature.

I doubt they fell for anything, they likely knew what they were doing. Its better for them to show a satirical stereotype of something they hate anyways because they know it will make that viewpoint look more ridiculous to their audience and work as a confirmation of what ever strawmen they've set up/believe.

They are only beholden to their viewer base so as long as their base is happy they can ignore any sort of criticism that comes from outside it. Their viewers are not likely to be influenced by that criticism when deciding if what they are seeing is real.

Of course fucking Jesse Watters dumb racist ass falls for this. And of course he invokes Ghandi and MLK.

Him saying the horse wasa racist was pretty hilarious.

I'm with another gaffer he mentioning MLK did Watters no favors and the troll took advantage of that.

Jakten is right in general about the audience watching these things. Progressives need to fight fire with fire and trolling isn't a good tactic. Going after right wing friendly corporations who have bulk of consumers who aren't is a good start. The same for wasting time on FNC viewers, we need people who didn't vote not people who have already made up their minds the next few elections no matter what.

Don't see the point of this other than to say "Ha! He thought I was legit". I realize that about sums up trolling, but I figured half the point is also to rile the trolled party up which I'm not really seeing here. In the end Fox News gets someone to be an even more exaggerated version of what they rail on all day and 90% of the audience isn't going to bother to fact check it's legitimacy (90% is probably optimistic). Basically this is the "Joke's on them. I was only pretending." meme IRL.

$50/hour, but no kissing on the lips and colors must be pre-separated
Ah yes, Watters' World. It's like Beakman's World, just with way less science and way more racism.

Their audience sees whatever Fox puts on the screen as fact anyways, so this just helps their agenda.

Dead 💀

Man I really am fucking hating this whole internet subculture fading into real life thing that seems to be happening, a sort of osmosis and bleedthrough of everything on the internet.

Fucking hate seeing the effect places like 4chan and the darknet in general have had on the world but it was inevitable in some way I guess.

I mean I am questioning why I even care considering it is one of the largest propaganda channels in the USA. I guess it is just the nature of it, it feels like everything is just accelerating at a terrifying pace.

lol, some of you are cowards:

WorVx5O.png

Why am I not surprised Amirox gets brought up and weaponized against us.

I mean that is really fucking funny considering places like 4chan and 7chan are complicit not only in spreading racism, but also posting dead people, naked children and often endorsing the posting of Child Pornography for some kind of laugh. They are complicit in the suffering of children. I think to truly spread shit like that you have no moral core.

So it is funny seeing the pot call the kettle black.

Underappreciated post.

You can't be a hypocrite if you don't sincerely adhere to any moral tenants.

That's the thing. The right is excessively good at only holding the left to any sort of standard because it's easy to make your opponent look bad if any individual slips up. They personally could give a damn about child abuse if a conservative does it.

Why would Fox give a shit if this was a "troll"?

This caricatured display is exactly what the Fox audience eats up, and likely the image of anyone left or liberal leaning they already had in their head. This only reinforces it. Don't be surprised to see Fox News invite this person back on, thinking they'll get another 5 minutes of gold.

Watch Da Birdie

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet
Watters is an idiot that reeks of self-importance and acts like a know-it-all. Just lol at that trolling though.

Like he's not as loud as Hannity and the bigger guys, but not once have I seen him on where I didn't hate him immediately.

My first exposure was him making fun of climate change by making a deal about it snowing in winter in NY.
