‘Mass Effect 2’ tops an unchanged Top 3 this week, despite a sales drop of 64% putting it within touching distance of ‘Just Dance’ (-26%) at No2.

Ubisoft’s dancing game was only 850 sales away from regaining No1, but still remains ahead of ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’ (-12%) which just holds on to No3 in the face of competition from EA’s new release ‘Dante’s Inferno’, debuting at No4. EA’s new IP is only a tiny number of sales away from dislodging ‘Call of Duty’ at No3, but EA can claim 3 games in the Top 5 as ‘FIFA 10’ (+26%) jumps 2 places to No5. The rest of the All Formats Top 10 shuffle places amongst themselves with Nintendo’s highest charting title ‘Wii Sports Resort’ (-18%) down one place to No6, ahead of Sony’s PS3-exclusive ‘MAG’ (-46%) down 3 places to No7, in its second week of release. Nintendo still manage 3 games in the Top 10 as ‘New Super Mario Bros. Wii’ (-14%) holds on to No8 while ‘Wii Fit Plus’ (-36%) shows signs of flagging, down 3 places to No9. ‘James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game’ (-12%) rounds off the Top 10, a non-mover at No10 with ‘FIFA 10’ the only Top 10 game to gain sales this week.

Atari/Namco Bandai Games fail to break into the Top 10 as ‘Star Trek Online’ beams in at No11, ahead of new releases from THQ with ‘MX Vs ATV Reflex’ at No18 and EA with the latest Sims add-on ‘The Sims 3: Design & High Tech Stuff’ at No20.

MAG is doing surprisingly well. Uncharted 2 is also managing to stay in the top 20. Very impressive legs. :lol

Dantes Inferno is doing ok.

Uncharted is hanging in strong :).
Moving one place is pretty good for Mass Effect, is it time of the year (November vs February) or is ME2 doing much better than the original?

ME2 launched last week with 2x the 360 sales and 3x the PC sales of the original according to the last Chart Track statement, so it seems it's just doing much better than the original.

Huh, well that's pretty definitive.

One thing that bothers me about these Euro charts is the way there written. If your going to talk like Mass Effect is number 1, put it as number 1. I hate how they have an all formats chart but in the description count all consoles! Just Dance is number 1, simple as that keep it like that. I dont knwo, it just bugs me.

I'm surprised about Pure, every time I check this thread I see the game hanging up there, how many weeks that game charted in the Top 40?

Nice Forza legs, if there's a place for racing sims is EU.

MAG is doing well, strangely enough I didn't see much ad's here in Spain, so i don't know how it will do here.

Dante's Inferno doing fine, but I wonder what kind of expectattions EA had.

The paragraph refers to this chart: http://www.chart-track.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p/software/uk/latest/index_test.jsp&ct=110015

You have to consider that Pure is bundled with the Xbox 360, and that in the UK charts they include bundled software in software sales.

MW2 sold an estimated 38k last week, which puts ME2 with at least 40k. Going with that number, based on a 64% drop, we have 110k for the first week, which gives us 150k LTD. (ME1 currently is at 200~299k.)

Pure and Lego Batman have been bundled with Xbox 360 hardware for a while now. That's why they chart.

UK charts seem basically broken at the moment. Seems that you need fuck all sales to pull top ten places. Oh, and knowing what we knew about CoD / MAG last week we can do some maths for this week.

Code:
Modern Warfare 2 (360, PS3, PC) UK sales based on first week:

Weeks:
46 - 1,780,000
47 - 249,000 (-86%)
48 - 169,000 (-32%)
49 - 158,000 ( -7%)
50 - 140,000 (-11%)
51 - 144,000 ( +3%)
52 - 169,000 (+17%)
53 - 100,000 (-41%)
01 - 59,000 (-41%)
02 - 49,000 (-17%)
03 - 44,000 (-10%)
04 - 43,000 (-3%)
05 - 38,000 (-12%)

Total - 3.2m

Last week that meant that MAG was < 43k. We know this week that MAG dropped by 46% so it will be < 23k for the week... which means Dante's overall sold somewhere between 38k and 23k, and for each platform sold less than 23k.

Son of a MAG. Doing nice. U2 still hanging in there <3 And the PC version of MW2 saves it from losing to Dante's Inferno on All Formats since both versions of DI outsold both versions of MW2... Nice start for EA. Good advertising pays off.

And wowzers at Forza 3 legs. Wonder what GT5 will do

By the way, do we have any other "opening weeks" numbers for those games in the PAL top 10? Given that chart track like posting percentage drops it could prove useful in working out more precisely what certain games are selling.

Edit - Actually, thinking about it, it may be possible to use the Famitsu provided monthly numbers in conjunction with the CoD numbers to calculate the others. I'll be back after some more maths. :lol

MAG sold less than COD last week, so that calculation wont be right...

Wow, Just Dance just keeps selling and selling. I'm quite surprised at Dante's Inferno though, it seems to be doing better than both Bayonetta and Darksiders, yet I've yet to see a single advert for it =/
Also well done to Mass Effect 2. I would have expected the MAG drop off to be much greater than this, well done to Zipper there :)

Hmm... using the released chart track monthly numbers isn't going to work for calculating any other figures, there's something off about them. The November numbers are:

01 (__) [360] Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (1,025,000)
02 (__) [PS3] Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (726,000)

Which supposedly covers weeks 44 to 47 (Oct 25 - Nov 21). Except, Chart Track announced that Modern Warfare 2 sold 1.78m in the first week, and with an 86% drop for the second week it should have sold around 250k... putting the combined sales over 2m for the weeks in November covered above.

Except that obviously doesn't work. Ho hum.

Uncharted 1 hasn't reached Platinum yet, so that's an accomplishment for him. Uncharted 2 has outsold the first one in the US, UK and Japan (and possibly everywhere else). Now it just needs to be bundled to hell and back.

Forgot about this, is there some sort of deal going on?
Also, how come it didn't do so well on PS3?

I think bttb explained once that, when Chart-Track divulges numbers, they are usually estimated for the entire market, but the monthly sales and ELSPA Awards are based on raw sales figures they get from their retail panel (~90% of the market).

So, hypothetically:

Week 1:
100% = 1.78 million (estimated)
90% = 1.60 million (actual)

Week 2:
100% = 250k (estimated)
90% = 225k (actual)

Total:
100% = 2.03 million (estimated)
90% = 1.83 million (actual)

Based on the monthly figures:

360 = 1.03 million (actual)
PS3 = 0.73 million (actual)
PC < 0.1 million (actual; did not achieve Silver award in November)

Total < 1.85 million (actual)

Again, this is just an illustrative calculation.

That puts PSP game sales into perspective... ouch.

pretty sad that FIFA10 is best selling PSP game in UK... thats extraordinary. In fact I am sure there are some flash footy games that are better than Fifa on PSP. I just checked metacritic and Fifa10 on PSP actually got awesome reviews... it killed pes10 on the same platform.

which is, again, extraordinary as fifa for psp is complete opposite game than fifa on ps3 for instance, so i wonder if those people played that game at all.

Wow, I cannot believe that Gran Turismo was outsold by a year old FIFA... and LBP getting outsold by a 3 year old Ratchet title? All made worse considering the PSP actually had a decent lineup last year.

Forza 3 and Uncharted 2 have great legs.

It's good to see other games having legs, and not just the evergreen Nintento titles.

Mario Kart Wii, NSMBds and WiiPlay are on the list for years. :lol

And why is MAG selling so well? Is Sony advertising the game good, or what...

Because it's an awesome game for people who like to invest some time in learning how it's played and enjoy tactics and teamworks instead of corner camping and spawn killing?

Wow the 360 is really dominating in the UK.

And wow at MAG... very impressive, didn't expect that at all. I thought it would be gone after just one week. Good job MAG guys.

Awesome games don't always sell well. You should know that by now :p
I was just wondering. It's quite unexpected. The game is also doing well in Holland.

Ok, that makes sense. Unfortunately it also makes the two things incompatible by default... which means I still can't make use of them for what I originally intended. :lol

Second said:

Without being too much of a downer, as shown above... you need very little in the way of sales to grab a top ten spot at the moment. With a first week of less than 43k and a second week of less than 23k it's probably going to be a good few weeks before it even hits silver (100k) levels of sales.

Indeed, but good games (and ESPECIALLY good FPS games) get good word of mouth, so they stay in the charts. :p

MAG got some ok marketing. Mostly online, but it was all right. That and the SOCOM fanbase was enough for it's 60k+ sales in 2 weeks.

Ok, that makes sense. Unfortunately it also makes the two things incompatible by default... which means I still can't make use of them for what I originally intended. :lol

Without being too much of a downer, as shown above... you need very little in the way of sales to grab a top ten spot at the moment. With a first week of less than 43k and a second week of less than 23k it's probably going to be a good few weeks before it even hits silver (100k) levels of sales.

Ok.. that makes sense but I still think it is quite unexpected. MAG might not do 1M, but I think it is still a good result for this type of game and a sign that the PS3 online community is interested in this.

Pretty much considering the game had little to no exposure in this country. I do hope this does well - I aim to get this somewhere down the line and would like a game with a dedicated online presence :D

Only two DS games in top40, being a 2005 and a 2006 titles. DS seems to be slowing down after holidays...

Hilarity:
- 17 FINAL FANTASY CC: THE CRYSTAL BEARERS SQUARE ENIX SQUARE ENIX SQUARE ENIX EUROPE

#17 in the Wii-only Top40 (full price).

Oh wow. :/

Did the Cube version of CC do any better? Would be pretty weird if it did...

Didn't the NDS just have a record setting Christmas? Did everyone just throw them away after the holidays? I know everyone says "don't focus on just the top 10" but 2 games in the top 40 is PSP-esque.

On the subject of PSP sales, its Dante's Inferno didn't even appear in its own top 10.

Obviously, the game still has not been released on psp. (February 26th)

Not that I'm expecting it to chart when it's released.
