Why is Suikoden II still not on PSN?

The rate at which we get PS1 Classics on PSN is dismally slow. We are finally getting games released that were on the Japanese Playstation Store for 2-3 years. Games like Xenogears didn't get released here until recently.

What is the reason that these games get released so slowly here? Is it Sony of America's fault or the game publishers?

Do they not like free money?

I'm most surprised about Suikoden II. We didn't get Suikoden 1+2 on the PSP. Suikoden 1 was released on PSN a long time ago, but Suikoden II has yet to see a release.

My guess is they like laughing the people paying the inflated eBay prices.

No, but really, I want an answer to this too, as I'd love to be able to play this on my PSPGo.

G'ah, I heard it on a podcast years ago, and now I forget what it was, but there was a specific reason that it was super unlikely. I don't think there's a snowball's chance of it (because it doesn't make sense), but my mind keeps telling me something about translation. Maybe localization.

Shit.

I was at a bazaar in Pennsylvania this weekend and saw an unsealed copy (that I had a sneaking suspicion was used and just re-shrinked) and was about $129.00...

Yeah bring the fucking thing to PSN.

they should put it up for like 50 bucks

Even though I know this was meant to be a joke, I do think people would pay $50 for it, especially compared when a disc only, scratched to hell copy is around $100 online.

I really wish they would put it up. Everyone deserves a chance to play this game.

I'd also like a backup copy since my disc is scratched and not totally reliable at this point. I still haven't completed my annual playthrough.

Maybe the sales for Suikoden were so low, they don't think it'll be worth the effort to get the sequel up there.
I heard a wild rumor that the first Suikoden sold well enough on PSN that a bunch of publishers demanded different terms for putting their PS1 games up. That was supposedly why after Suikoden went up, there was about a six month gap with absolutely no new PS1 Classics released on the U.S. store.

My memory is pretty fuzzy on this one, so huge grain of salt please. ^_^;

Was it Warning! A Huge Podcast? I seem to recall a couple of the hosts actually worked on the translation of Suikoden 2 and talking about how they had almost no materials or tools to work with, so they had to patch the game themselves and play through it to check it.

A: Genso Suikoden II's NA localization was a mess. A lot of grammatical and syntactical errors:

B: Even some of the text was not translated.

C: What's more, there were several audio glitches in the North American translation. Ever wonder why some of the full-scale war battles didn't even have any music at all? They were supposed to!

1) One of the themes involved was this: War. It was the very first war theme, and you probably would have heard it when you were battling outside of Muse or Viktor's fort.

2) Another theme wasn't on the OST and I can't find it on YouTube, but there was a theme that played when you ever engaged in full-scale war battle with Luca Blight himself.

3) There was also a third audio glitch, when Annalee was supposed to sing to you, but in the NA version, you got quite a few minutes of silence. She was supposed to sing Orizzonte to you.

4) The final duel battle at the VERY end of the game before the credits was not supposed to be silent. It was supposed to have this theme attached to it.

5) Finally, La passione commouve la storia got the axe in the NA version. The PAL version has it.

These imperfections are probably part of the case. Suikoden I+II didn't come out in NA likely for similar reasons why Tales of Eternia or BoF3 PSP didn't come out here. If Genso Suikoden II PAL is released on EU PSN, I'll buy it. It doesn't have the audio glitches.

Still baffling it's not out still, though. I've already retired my disc because I imported the PSP version, but I'd like an English version to hold onto on my PSP. BUT... I'd appreciate a retranslation very much.

Probably my most wished for PS1 classic. Sold my copy during the college years and have been kicking myself ever since.

If you go to a shop that sells used PS1 games, the prices are still ridiculous compared to the $5.99 you can find on PSN.

My guess is that it wouldn't pass some certification due to missing music in the strategy battles and the untranslated text in random places.

What's with you guys? Suikoden 2's translation is not good.
Definitely. I liked the narrative even more after playing it in Japanese. Looking at some of the dialogue in English, while memorable and nostalgic for me, it's kind of funny sometimes.

has to be suikoden 2 remake right? RIGHT?

the not passing certification thing sounds more likely :(

Does this mean you found my post absurd in some way?
No I think you're awesome and like your posts, but I really would pay $60 for a remake. I just thought the Unleashed thing random and hilarious. Very pretty engine though, so maybe it could work lol.

I don't remember it being that bad when I played it...but maybe it just looked okay next to the firs game (which really had an awful translation).

Why has the best ps1 RPG ever not been released on psn? That is a golden fucking question.

Although to be fair, I'm not exactly big on the thought of facing Luca Blight again. That was one tough bastard.

I thought Suikoden 1+2 was never released in PAL? I imported Tales of Eternia and BoFIII.

I need to play Suikoden II again. I played it eight or nine years ago and that's the only time I ever played it.

Wondering that as well, I mean Konami is poised to make money from this. It can't be that expensive to upload a ROM onto the PSN. I feel like PS1 classics are essentially free money for the publishers.

A retranslation with all the glitches fixed would cause me to reach nirvana. I would legitimately ascend to a higher plane of existence.

But even a release of the original version would make me happy. I need more real Suikoden, and I need it now.

Yerp, this is something I'd like to know as well. I would most certainly shell out a few bones for a version of SII that wouldn't require me to bust out the PS2 (to emulate, obv).

It's frustrating that a ridiculously sloppy effort on one of the best RPGs ever is keeping us from seeing it re-released again (assuming that that's why and there isn't a weird licensing issue), despite commanding a premium on eBay and whatnot. :/

Given how Suikoden 2's translation isn't like Breath of Fire II bad, I would prefer Konami releasing the old version to nothing at all (but a retranslation would still be nice).

But Konami hates ya'll, so abandon all hope.

What a fucked up localization. I've known about all of what you mentioned for years, but it still makes me really sad. They really messed it up. Not having Orrizonte and the ending song in there kills it.
