Rurouni Kenshin: Episodes 1-43

For some reason, I really had the urge to go back to this show. It's really interesting to see what has held up to the test of time and what hasn't. The thing that has surprised me most is how kind of bad the show looked up to the Saito fight. Tons of repeated animation and still frames combined with some really jerky animation really hurts a ton of key fights before that. Even the first Aoshi fight (one that I remember quite fondly) just looks kind of boring and terrible. Once the show hits the Kyoto arc, everything changes. There are still some moments of bad animation, but the fights become much smoother and more dynamic. the still frames are used much less and the show finally starts looking like I remember.

Story wise, the show does still hold up. The cast is great and the drama is surprisingly deep for a shonen show. It definitely isn't quite as strong until it hits Kyoto, but what's there is still good. I will probably right a much longer piece on this once I finish Kyoto as I have a ton more to say.

Was stuck on third episode for quite a few weeks now. Glad to hear it gets better both story and animation wise.

One Piece 34-44

It was alright I guess. Certainly the best arc so far though it didn't manage to convert me into a believer. I'm usually sucker for more or less historical fantasy but the pirate setting as depicted here really doesn't mesh with me. Still not feeling the cast and the comedic bits are a miss 90% of the time, they even managed to ruin Sanji with them. Nami's backstory was touching. I don't quite get Bellemere's decision though, surely the rest of the villagers would borrow/give her the necessary money to save herself. It's not like Arlong would care. And god dammit Nami was more useless than Sakura during the final showdown.

At least I won't have 600 episodes to catch up to, phew.

Sabagebu 07, Nozaki-kun 07

Both shows are slowly losing me. Criminal lack of Seo in the Nozaki. Need to catch up to Barakamon to see if it's just me being dead inside.

Sailor Moon Mondays: Sailor Moon Episode 30:

This may not have been the best episode to watch coming off of watching an episode of Nozaki-Kun as I am pretty sure the "relationships" presented in this episode are exactly the type that this series is mocking with such fervor. Well, at the very least, the shallow and desperate looking for love that Mako and Usagi present. Really though the actual core of this episode is surprisingly on Motoki. Well, this is still the first season in which side character could get a focus episode. Anyway, in between the tedious antics of the middle school girls, and as aside, thank for reminding me that Mamoru is technically a sex offender. I will never understand why they made him a college student in this incarnation. Anyway, Motoki much more adult struggles with his actual girlfriend are about a thousand times more compelling then the wacky antics of the scouts. Overall, another alright episode with thumbs leaning towards the down. Watch it if you want but you are not missing much here.

Not in Japan, he's not. The age of consent is 13, and even with municipal obscenity laws in Tokyo although Usagi couldn't marry him until she is 16 as long as they are in a romantic relationship (whatever that means) there's no problem with a sexual relationship.

That is disturbing information.

Yay, Hanamonogatari is out. Mandoric be praised!

GitS Arise: Another Mission

3 minutes of nice action with the Surface tablet, best promotion for a tablet ever

You can watch it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bN5aW9AAIjQ

But really, this little ad is basically a trailer for the show itself, amazing animations you can expect from the Arise ova's, they're not on par with SAC but still worth a watch. Can't wait for the 4th.
Did they just hack in the Surface into old animation? It looks so dumb at points... particularly fighting with the tablet in one hand.

Sailor Moon Mondays: Sailor Moon Episode 31:

On the one hand, the rainbow crystal arc is starting to creak and crack over the weight of formula but on the other hand after the dour Sailor Moon Crystal I am much more appreciative the manic comedy of the first series. That being said this episode is notable for introducing useless lump of unkempt hair Yūichirō Kumada as a potential love interest for Rei. It is also nice to see her Grandfather return. Not much else to say really. Yet another alright episode in a series of them.

I enjoyed the light approach to the beginning of the movie, the small scale scenes of children from two different countries dealing with each other in particular. I didn't care much for the latter acts, and the film ends up feeling a bit jumbled. What's the point of
the book-ending scenes from 50 years later
? I think it was unneeded. And there is a disconnect between first part of the movie and the second. The character of Tanya and the brothers' relationship with her ends up feeling under-used or over-used, depending on how you view it.
The main characters are almost flat boards who do little other than react to the events happening around them, which is okay if you go for a more observant and detached angle, but then the film keeps dropping all these dramatic beats around and I couldn't bring myself to care very much.

In any case, the film looked and sounded great. It's not a super-production on the level of say, Momo or Redline, but plenty of talented animators spiced up the acting animation and there are some fairly interesting bits, my favourite of which was Hisashi Mori's sketches and dancing. The artwork on the film is something to behold, too:

The art director Santiago Montiel (a fellow Argentinian!) has a blog where he uploads various stuff he paints. I quite like his style. He did the art design for the upcoming episode 21 of Space Dandy, looking forward to it!

I just noticed that the Sunrider game was put on Steam by the people doing all the new VNs:

I'm actually enjoying it, inasmuch as it is a silly anime scifi game. I have no idea if it's because Mass Effect ruined the genre for me and now any scifi is good, or if the game itself is good on its own. But hey, even if it manages to hit as many cliches as I can imagine in a SF story, it's silly enough to play and it's free.

Besides, there's a tsundere:
IA6CWyJl.jpg

It also has a light SRPG mode as well, which is okay I suppose. But you could always turn the game to "novel mode" and just blaze through those without giving it a second though.
I've finished sunrider and i really liked it too !
It reminded me of the galaxy angel games( they are different from the anime ) With a different scale... and yeah the srpg portion is good. It's rough arond the edges but the challenge is real if you're not playing on easy.
The plot is very simple but there is nothing wrong with it and i like that the choices do change some missions and some girls attitudes.
Given the price , everyone should try it.

The girl on the far left looks waaaay too much like Rei.

Actually she is nothing like her. She is the genius engineer , that serve as a healing-type support unit and can upgrade things mac-gyver style. As firehawk pointed out , there is another girl that is more like rei and ever her in a couple of hours had more dialog than rei in the entire evangelion saga.

Man... I haven't watched this much anime over a weekend in a while. Getting my fix in:

Tokyo Ghoul 1-7

Prefer the read. But the anime does an admiral job. Can't stand the constant black and photo negative looking scenes when there is blood. Grind my gears. Riza is wafiu material.

Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei 1-20

A decent adaptation. Once again I prefer the read (Light Novel) over the anime. OP main character needs to be more OP. Mizuki Shibata is waifu material.

Captain Earth 7-20

Soooo who is going to die/almost die before this series ends? My bets are on Daichi or Tep sacrifices themselves. Hana and Blonde are waifu material.

Code Geass: Akito the Exiled

CEmm5el.jpg

First movie is so-so, felt more like an introductory episode. You don't need to have watched the tv series, it's set in Europe with new characters and the Britannia vs Eleven backstory is explained at the start. (which is silly imo, Japanese ghetto camps in Europe? A depiction of the struggle of an international cast would've made it a bit more plausible). The main protagonist is very cliche. There are 2 types of mech pilots in anime: the crybaby, and the quiet, antisocial pilot. Akito is the latter, so far in this episode, he lacks any charisma. They need to give mech pilots better personalities in these shows, they all suck with a few exceptions. The action with mechs is good though I don't really like the use of cgi effects for battles.

Code Geass: Akito the Exiled 2

846a37177a5dd0aa4ff3c0f2e3a9fae31359567557_full.jpg

A much better movie, characters are more fleshed out, the main battle in the city was fast paced and reminded me of the better fighting inside the city moments of Gundam (and the obvious Netype like telepathy communication), Akito becomes a bit more enjoyable to watch. There's still no telling where the story is going, it's halfway through and should be nearing the climax in movie 3 but barely anything noteworthy has happened. I really wished they made this into a 25 episode format for better story progression. Just like GitS Arise, we only get a measly 4 part ova, 1 episode per year =(

And damn, who is
Julius Kingsley?? Is that... Lelouch(??!) escorted by Suzaku? (hate that character)

Also, Shin Hyuuga Shing's knightmare is just so ridicilous it's awesome lol.

I had entirely forgotten about the
50 year time skip.
Pretty pointless and sorta tacky. The script could have done with a little more restraint in parts.

Guys, a friend of mine recommended that I should watch the Monogatari series (Bake, Nise, etc). However, I watched the first episode and thought that the girl that appeared (Senjōgahara, I think) is very, very irritating. My friends love her, but I couldn't stand her.

Should I give the anime another chance? Thanks in advance.

Did you enjoy the dialogue style and banter? If not, there's little point in watching.

The other characters in general and the dialogue I thought was good, but not anything involving Senjōgahara.

Just keep watching. It's the very first episode ... Try the second it's online 22 minutes of your time.

It's the anime equivalent of David Mamet! I don't understand hating Senjougahara though... she's the best thing about the show.

I wish CR would just tell us when they are streaming Hanamonogatari...
I'm curious, does anime air in Taiwan? I know that there are Mando dubs of some anime that air there, but you wouldn't get Hanamonogatari on the air simulcast? With all that Love Live stuff, I would assume that was broadcast on the air at the same time as the Japanese broadcast anyway.

Yeah, it's nothing extraordinary, but it's competent enough to be fun to play through. BioWare should just hire these guys to write Mass Effect 4.

Are the Galaxy Games out in English?

I know they do air anime here, but I have no idea if they are simulcast or anything. I'm watching stuff on CR using hola better internet to change my region to USA.

We have an HD antennae in our house and that's it so I don't really get to watch much stuff anyways. I saw Detective Conan on TV so I guess that airs on the basic local channels.

lol looking at the website a taiwanese TV thingy I guess they are on cable. http://mod.cht.com.tw/cartoon199/ http://mod.cht.com.tw/content/?id=774

I thought it looked cool. Will watch Hanamonogatari although from all the waifus, I like Suruga Kanbaru the least.

It is unarguably the greatest anime series ever created. It should be everyone's favorite anime ever without question. I will defend Monogatari and Senjogahara till the day I die. Nisio Isin and Akiyuki Shinbo are creative geniuses unlike anything anime and LNs have ever seen.

You should watch anime dubbed into Mando just for the experience. I wonder if the Love Lives are dubbed...

I thought it looked cool.
I'm just curious, since it's hard to imagine that they'd animate something new for the Surface specifically... but who knows. All the stuff with the soft keyboard cover looked like it had to be made for a Surface anyway.

Well I grew up watching Doraemon in mandarin Chinese. So I guess that counts? Also I have no way of watching them haha no cable. I do wonder if there is a dub for love live though.

Lol it might be easier to find them on the internet.

Oh yeah I also watched DBZ from Buu saga to the end in Chinese and over 100 eps of Detective Conan.

Yeah Googling love live only has subs lol. SO sad no dub

Same with SAO. Simulcasts are in Japanese with subs.

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun Episode 7:

I think what really makes the comedy are all of the deadpan reactions everybody has to the various situations. Anyway, this week we get a look into the mind of Nozaki himself and why he is the most boring person in that universe. Turns out it is because it is because he has only one setting, drawing manga, hilarity ensues. Anyway, I do wonder if they are trying to build any sort of serious relationships with the cast, not sure how credible such an endeavor would be since all the romance is just to be part of the joke. Reminds me a lot of Love Lab in that regard actually.

Wouldn't expect serious relationships.

Closest to serious is probably WakaxSeo because he's unaware that he's already dating her.

So it can have it's serious moments too. That was a really refreshing change of pace. As for part B... Hell hath no fury like a woman's scorn.

I just decided to check that out. That sure was different. And Makoto wasn't as much of a slime ball. lol
Yeah, the manga makes him actually seem like a person. Whereas the anime is just off the wall, no woman left behind.

Motto! Ojamajo Doremi 15
This episode was super good and encapsulated every good aspect of Doremi in 20 minutes. Madcap comedy, snappy character antics and an emotional core rooted in earthly issues
they were clearly implying something else with the mother's job though! :p
.

It's all thanks to Igarashi coming back to storyboard and directing that this was of such high quality. He seems to have a tight control of the episodes he's directly involved with, because whenever he appears the art improves, the layout quality improves, the funny faces improve, the writing improves, you get the idea. It was a shame that he only did three episodes for Sharp, but at least he helmed the movie+40 combo.
He's gonna be doing three more episodes this season; hopefully they all maintain the quality exhibited here.

No, I'm not judging it in comparison to School Days, shush.
